again on the bases...getting hits but dumb on the bases
That was not a dumb play. It was a great play and throw by Varsho. You can't only run when you are 100% sure you're gonna make it. You put pressure on the D and make them make the plays. You just have to tip your cap to Varsho.
He was out by 10 feet, with Judge coming up. He could see the play in front of him. Not dumb, but way to aggressive and not smart.
As Marinaccio self destructs as usual....
Lets not forget Torres trying to go to 3rd base on infield grounder...or trying to turn and throw the ball to second when they have a two run lead, and his body is facing 1st base already ..or the ugly bunt attempt. Just not a winning ballplayer and never will be. I can't wait until they finally move him myself.
that German's hand was the stickiest he ever saw and he had "trouble" removing his fingers from German's hand. If it was so sticky, why did he bring all 4 umpires over to check and why did it take so long to make up their minds?(perhaps rules require all 4 agree?) You also cannot tell everything on the TV, but it sure didn't look like he had an issue with removing his fingers from German's hand.
I am not in doubt his hand was tacky nor that the ejection was warranted per the rules. But to say it was not rosin is questionable. Coney showed sufficient legal rosin can glue a ball to a palm and keep it there upside down.
But as Cone said, all of German's spins rates were with 50 rpm of normal - he said an increase of about 300 is what you should expect if something was wrong.
Just mindless ramblings - so get off my lawn.
.
Here is my question, this was the same crew who had investigated German earlier this season...James Hoye is the crew chief I believe. Did Blake or Boone remind German of this fact before the game?? If they didn't, they should have. It is on German, but...
The decision by Torres to go to 2nd on his hit was not a bad decision.
The slide was ridiculously bad though. A normal slide to the outside of the bag and he's absolutely safe. He slid as if he was breaking up a DP and slid right into the tag.
The decision to go to 3rd with 2 outs was moronic as was the decision to throw to 2nd in the 9th.
Just boneheaded stuff from a guy who is a vet at this point. His baseball IQ will not get better, its just who he is.
RE: RE: The results certainly speak otherwise but on TV there
doesn’t seem to be an uptick on German’s stuff. His FB is still 91-93 and straight. His curve seems the same as well, not sharper or tighter, people just seem to have more difficulty identifying it. Looks like he’s scrapped the change.
No matter what, I can’t wait for him and Schmidt to be replaced.
German is a good pitcher. Period. He has stuff to be a #2/#3. To have him as the #5 is very good. He does have control issues, but when he is on, he is very good. The reason he is a #4/#5 is control issues.
Not going to quibble too much on the FB, but it sits 93/94 and tops at 95/96. Maybe his slider is 91.
He’s a wife beater and now he’s so stupid that it’s actually funny. On top of no one on Boone’s staff being able to control him during a game. Nice brand recognition for the Yankees
never has a HR made me LOL like Judge's last night.
He may not have had anything bad on his hand, but he has to have clean hands returning to the mound. So residual tackiness from previous inning cannot be there. Same crew from last week that made him wipe his hands off.
Coney said all his spin rates were normal, so that means he probably wasn't using anything illegal.
OR, he always uses something illegal, which is seeming more likely.
Nobody should be either surprised or upset with the umps over German
He is a repeat offender, who, the last time around, even admitted to doing something that is not allowed in going to a rosin bag in the dugout. And, him washing his hands and then going back to the rosin is essentially the same as not washing his hands. He has clearly been cheating for a while and needs to cut the shit.

Yeah, ah, no. If his spins rates are the same as they normally are, then no he is not doing something nefarious. I am pissed that Blake and Boone didn't watch him...
If all he did was not wipe his hands clean between innings, then it is a technicality. IIRC, Scherzer said he used alcohol to try to clean his hands and his hand was still sticky.

David Cone has said on multiple occasions that alcohol mixed with rosin makes it MUCH stickier. He even did an experiment after the Scherzer incident on Sunday Night baseball where he mixed the alcohol with resin and held his hand up, palm down and the ball just stuck to it like it was glued there

That's because both he and Scherzer are cheating. First of all, this is not a new issue with German. He violates the rule every start, so why wouldn't his spin rate yesterday have been consistent with other starts? He's always cheating. Second, he didn't wipe his hands. He washed them...and then went to the rosin bag in the dugout immediately after, which makes them sticky. That is the same that Scherzer did. And, you are not supposed to go to any substance in the dugout to begin with.
But, I won't sugar coat this or make excuses. German was cheating and he's done so for a long time.
There just actually isn’t real evidence for this, Matt, respectfully. If the guy was using something illegal why would we do it with the same ump crew in the matter of a few weeks?
It’s clear that the league rules and guidelines just aren’t clear enough for everyone to know where the line is.
Watching the yanks on Amazon prime sucks big fucking balls. Nothing new, just my usual rant.
Streaming is a terrible medium for watching sports. And that’s before we even mention how buggy and shitty the feed is. Pause the game come back 5 min later and it’s all busted up and have to exit out. Fuck off.

Oh stop the sanctimonious bullshit. You are so smart that you don't know that they have baseline spin rates for several seasons for every pitcher from A ball on up. It is all new territory for everyone. All pitchers through the history of baseball have "cheated" in some fashion. Some get caught. Some go to the Hall of Fame.
If this irks you so bad perhaps you should stop watching.

I never said it irks me. I don't care. I'm just not pretending like he's innocent just because I'm a fan. He cheated and pretty much everyone knows it.

And, German has been cheating for at least a few years, so again, the spin rate comparison is moot.
with 2nd and 3rd and 1 out in extra innings you have to intentionally walk that hitter (Jansen) to load the bases and set up the double play and force plays

I know a bunch of people in baseball and stuff like this is widely known one way or the other. (For example, everyone knows Pujols is 2 years older than he says he is.) I will ask and get back to you guys.
