This was incredible, not because it highlighted Bruno's pro wrestling career (it did), but because much of it chronicled what his family - especially his mother - went through during World War II, when the German army occupied their village. It's a story that's almost unbelievable. I highly recommend it, even if you're not a fan of pro wrestling.

Believe me when I say there were times I was tearing up. Seriously. Bruno was my first sports hero, before Munson, or DeBusscehre, or any Giant. He's the reason I started lifting weights.

I saw him for the first time when I was six years old. My Grandfather took me to MSG, where he fought Baron Mikel Sicluna ("from the island of Malta!!" lol). I was mesmerized. I can still see him tossing Sicluna around the ring like he was a rag doll. From then on I was hooked.
I just missed out on Sammartino

but I do recall watching wrestling at MSG and seeing Don The Rock Muraco beat Pedro Morales for the intercontinental belt. Was shocked walking out of there. Will def watch this one!
I laughed when I saw this

Many of the guys in my frat in college ( a long time ago) were wrestling fans, and Sammartino was a star then. I made up a story that Bruno was my uncle (my mom's brother), and that he came to our home for Thanksgiving almost every year. They were impressed. I think I waited a month or two before telling them that it was fake news.
Thanks for the heads up.

Might watch this tonight. Bruno was pretty much retired when I started watching, but two of my favorites were pretty much jobbers at the time. One was Baron Mikel Scicluna, and the other was Big Swede Hansen. I didn't know much about either, I only knew that they would get a win once in a while, and I was always hoping one of them would take Backlund out.

Superstar Billy Graham passed away last night.... The man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour.

RIP
