NFT: Painted room...smell lingering

Matt123 : 5/18/2023 10:21 am
We had 2 bedrooms painted 13 days ago. Benjamin Moore was used, supposedly lower smell/lower chemical.

Nearly 2 weeks later, although faint, the smell is still there.

We keep windows open during the day and close at night (while sleeping in the room).

Not sure if the smell is partly from the carpet/beds picking it up?

Any advice to get rid of it? Google results suggested things like a bowl of vinegar or onions, which doesn't sound compelling.

Thanks!

Is it latex paint?

if so, I think the harmful fumes are one in a couple days (especially if the room is ventilated).

The smell can remain for weeks, but I believe is harmless.

I actually kind of like the smell of fresh paint.

pretty sure what we used was Regal Select Eggshell and there was no small after a day. I’d check on that and verify with whoever painted that that’s actually what they pained with.
Wish I could help

Just had painting done like an hour ago with BM paint. Can hardly smell it now. Could be other things picking it up like you said. Try a carpet deodorizer?
Yes

Could be other things in the room picking it up. If you haven't run fans in the room. You might want to try fans for few days

pj,

I don't really mind the smell either.

Though that could be because I hate painting so much that the smell reminds me that the job is done.

I have no advice for the OP other than the obvious, open windows, maybe some fans.
You can try charcoal odor absorbers

They did a good job, along with fans / ventilation after our contractor used oil-based wood stain in our kitchen last year. Talk about unbearable.

Vinegar does work well too, but then your room will smell like vinegar.
Consider an ozone generator...

I used one in a rental property I used to have and it worked like a charm. I also use it occasionally in my car, gets ride of any mold or mildew smells.

Just follow the directions and warnings.

BM Aura eggshell was used. 100% latex and low voc. I read something previously that the voc #s are based on uncolored paint, and who knows what's actually used to color.

Yup. Even zero VOC paints contain some degree of VOCs once tinted. Generally tints contain VOCs.
