Starting Lineups and Starting pitchers for today's game
Notes:
-Pete's playing today despite being sick and is at 1B instead of DH (thought Buck might rest him after last night)
-Pham's in LF and McNeil's in RF
-Marte is resting and Bucks has---surprise, surprise---left Vientos out of the lineup.
-Alvarez is resting today with Perez getting the start at Catcher.
-Escobar is at 2B again.
-At least Baty's in the lineup today...
#LFGM!
I just sense that if we can pull out today's game we will go on a roll
I did not check the attendance but it was scarce last night, and by the time we won the game there might have been 7000 people in the stands

I'm glad you guys stayed. It was a great game!! Hope you two had a fun time :-)
6 through 9 should be playing elsewhere.

Wow. This is beginning to sound like something fishy is brewing. What kind of message is Buck trying to send and to whom exactly?

he got flagged for me last year as having decent (not great, but decent) batted ball data in the complex last year despite the meh slash. This year a ton of hard contact in the air but his chase is way way way too high"

We won't get on a roll. Buck will see to that. Winning isn't his priority. It's more about him than it is the actual success of the team at this point with his decision-making.

Here's one I posted above, but it fits better here:

The game thread comments are funny to follow. Basically echoing what we're all saying, only it's nicer here. Those two threads can become zoos IMO.
Here I thought you should just try to play the best lineup you can that gives you the best chance to win. Silly me.
Give me a break. Seems like he was against calling him up and is being petty. Play him at DH most days and give him occasional starts at 1B (with Alonso DHing) and 3B.
Alonso is sick as a dog and its a day game after an extra inning night game. Maybe DHing Alonso for a day is the best thing for him and the team.
O's in the first against LHP Tyler Anderson, our old friend James McCann, inexplicably batting in the 5-hole, at bat with only 1-out and the bases loaded, and strikes out. Ah, the memories. Anderson gets out of the jam a batter later on a McKenna fly out to preserve the 1-0 Angels lead.

Maybe McCan't and Nidon't can be reunited soon, lol.
Wow. If they continue to lose because of this nonsense, then he needs to go.
If Eppler is either standing in the way of playing the kids or unwilling to give Buck a mandate, he needs to go as well.
Sometimes, decisions are easy. Vientos is and has been an easy decision. Playing the players that have given your listless lineup virtually the only spark they've had over the past month, is an easy decision.
To go another direction is rigid to a fault, to put it extremely mildly.
Just completely loses his command at times. Falls behind and then has to come over the plate. He is a ground all pitcher and he has already given up a ton of HRs per 9.
Also think Mets made a mistake sending him down. Should have made him a long man in the pen. He suffers from lack of confidence . Going back to the minors yet again did not help
Plus the guys they favored over him, like Leone, completely suck
How can this be possible!?

Buck obviously endorsed the Pham signing and is now trying to justify it by giving him playing time he does not deserve.
After the Joc episode, Pham was not getting a contract from anybody other than may be a minor league deal..

He had Baty in lf and Vientos at 3b, why does Pham need to be in again?

Makes sense. It's all about saving face and justifying their egos. Winning is not the primary objective. The Mets need a sense of urgency now. Buck won't provide that either since it's a "long season."

meanwhile I've been trying to figure out what has changed for Peterson this year... looking at his advanced stats they all look similar to identical to last year. Anyone have any input, has it been just bad luck? His strikeout rate is still right where it was, his walks as well. I thought that he must be getting crushed when contact is being made, but even his average exit velocity against is almost identical. The only thing I found is that his slider is underperforming hugely compared to last year, could this be that he is telegraphing? Any ideas?

Interestingly his groundball rate is actually up slightly this year, and his walk rate and strike throwing are similar to last year, the HR/9 is up huge, but its not reflected in the peripherals (hard hit rate, barrels, exit velocity), I really do think, looking at his deep numbers that he has the "stuff" to be a dynamic LHP but it must be mental make up, when he gets in trouble it just snowballs I guess.
Obviously, because our current DHs are killing it....
Moronic on so many levels. Vientos had 4 hard hit ball’s yesterday. Just absolutely staggeringly stupid. If they can’t see the potential and the need to give these guys a chance over 35 year olds hitting under .200 then they don’t deserve their jobs. Honestly moronic. Phillip Seymour hoffman is mocking them from the grave.

of right now they have decided Baty and Vientos will platoon at 3b. Quite the way to develop young players.

It's all ego-driven. Disgusting.
I just started watching and not able to follow what you are implying here.. can you expand?

It might be me just reading into this, but they mentioned something about change being difficult with that baseball being on the field and then smiled and waved/laughed it off and went back to the game.

I thought it was something about Buck not embracing change.

Even when he does play them, he's putting them lower in the order than less talented hitters (like Pham, Canha)..
Pete Alonso has NEVER started a game hitting 7th, 8th, or 9th in the order.
In his rookie season he started 153 games and in all but 1 game he was 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in the lineup, and even that 1 start was hitting 5th.

We are also seeing the ugly side of Buck and why you can guarantee he won’t still be manager here in 2025. This season goes off the rails it’s not all that much of crazy talk to see change made this off-season.

Will any members of the media call out or challenge Buck on his decision-making?
I agree but I will say this
I feel that when you just DH you don't nearly get into the game as much as you would if you were playing at a position.

So the logic is that it's better to not have them in the game at all vs get the experience of DH?
