Starting Lineups and Starting pitchers for today's game
Notes:
-Pete's playing today despite being sick and is at 1B instead of DH (thought Buck might rest him after last night)
-Pham's in LF and McNeil's in RF
-Marte is resting and Bucks has---surprise, surprise---left Vientos out of the lineup.
-Alvarez is resting today with Perez getting the start at Catcher.
-Escobar is at 2B again.
-At least Baty's in the lineup today...
#LFGM!

of right now they have decided Baty and Vientos will platoon at 3b. Quite the way to develop young players.
I agree but I will say this
I feel that when you just DH you don't nearly get into the game as much as you would if you were playing at a position.
So the logic is that it's better to not have them in the game at all vs get the experience of DH?
So you keep marching up trash instead of letting a rookie get swings?
Major league at bats are major league at bats

So play them in LF and 3B. Even if this was a valid reason (it’s not) there’s a simple solution.
The levels of stupidity they are willing to go to on these lineup constructions tell us all we need to know and there is no justification. They are wrong. They have been wrong for weeks if not months if not for an entire year on Vientos. This wasn’t 1 lucky homer, he averaged 93mph exit velo in his half assed role last year, had 3 balls over 100 in his first game up, hit a game tying homer in what to that point was a shut out and the biggest win of the year.
If he didn’t play yesterday do they win their biggest win of the year? Has tommy Pham helped them win a game all year in like 20 starts?
All good we have phamtom of the pop up and voeyeurbach watching Pete’s 6.
Giolito please
And Aroldis Chapman
Followed by: "FIRE BUCK"
Loudly.
If Vientos truly gets platooned with Baty, then this is a fire-able offense, IMO.
Cohen needs to hear it loud.
Throwing strikes and getting weak contact... looks solid.

Low upside move but I expect teams to check in on Michael Lorenzen. 3.80 FIP in 2023 averaging nearly 6 innings per start. FA after the season

And Aroldis Chapman
I'd be surprised if the Mets go after Chapman with his domestic violence stuff (also quit in the Yankees last season
"Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman has been ruled out for the American League Division Series after he skipped a mandatory workout, leading to a fine and likely ending the All-Star's seven-year tenure with New York"
I could be wrong
The 4 are Alonso, Nimmo, Lindor, baty.
Almost like ev correlates with who the good hitters are. Bottom of the lineup is 1/8 a day after it hit 2 game tying homers to get team to extras.
Why? Who knows. I don't understand what either of them are doing anymore.
He looks good and is pitching in rhythm. Locating well today.

Don't worry, Nido's eyes have been corrected and is expected back within days...

They're the problem, not Vientos. Buck might not be here next year at this rate. Hire Stearns or Cherington this off-season. Eppler can go recruit Ohtani and then go back to being locked up in a room with typewriters and other archaic automata.

Same number Vientos had in game 1.

Nobody else will say it but I will, we need to reinstate the Alderson sandwich.
Another really strong start for the phenom. Other than getting touched by the long ball, he has been pretty impressive. Right now he's in line for the Win as Miami leads 3-1 going to bottom of the 6th.

-21 batters faced
-6 I.P.
-4 H
-2 R (2 ER)
-1 BB
-4 K
-1 HR
-ERA 3.88
Would be nice to get him the win today if the Mets can score in the 6th. I'd be afraid of bringing him back for the 7th. He seems to peter off after 80 pitches. The way he's going today, I'd risk it, but the pen needs to be ready.
Obviously, Buck is a genius. /sarcasm
True dat. I know I was tempting fate there, lol. Raley is throwing in the pen now anyway.
Phantom of the dribbler, lol! But I'll take it anyway.

For the second straight day a Triple-A Syracuse Mets pitcher has been ejected following a sticky substances check.
Today it's reliever Eric Orze. The right-hander was ejected as he was coming into the game.
Not watching but tampas xba is .305 (Mets is .225) so it would seem like they got a little luck. Hopefully bp can get through it.
lmao
I know he's been struggling but has had always had potential but what's your thoughts on Jack Flaherty

Buck after game: "That was a veteran AB there, getting the ball in play..and using his speed to try and keep us going. Just what we needed"

He was outstanding last outing... which of course makes it less likely he'd be moved. St. Louis is suddenly playing well so I have feeling they hold onto both he and Montgomery. That being said, they should have their eyes on all potential SPing.

Mets need to get to .500 and pass the Marlins for 2nd place in the division. Continue to get better starting pitching.

The only team ahead of them now are the Marlins. The Mets' biggest enemies are themselves at this point (I mean management and Buck). Play and support the kids because they provide the team with the best chance to win. This isn't the time for ego trips or insecurity.

A fistful of Nothin'. Buck gave his usual side stories while basically saying nothing.

He said something super corny about the common cold. I think he said, "Do you realize there’s never been a cure for the cold?” to the reporters. He also said that the breaks finally seem to be going the Mets' way.
