gidiefor : Mod : 5/19/2023 3:28 pm
you want to get excited - take a listen to this BLEAV in Giants episode.

Papa and Banks talk about the new draftees and what the team is going to be looking like this season.

Bank compares Tae Banks to Mark Hamilton and compare Trey Hawkins to Corey Webster

They also talk about what some of the weapons are starting to look like and how the coaches are going to be using them.

Really got my juices flowing!!!

Go Giants!!!

think Mark Collins when I see Banks. Better 1980s comparison would be the Raiders corners of Lester Hayes/Mike Haynes.

Interesting

that the first ILB he mentions after Bobby O is Beavers.

Let's slow down on the Collins & Webster comps. Both of them were great, great Giants. Collins-at his peak-was the better of the two, but we don't win 2 Lombardis without Webster.

I see Mark Haynes in that comparison. Never was a ball hawk but was a fantastic shut-down corner. He is currently wearing Mark Haynes’s number as well.

Mark Haynes too, but I was talking about Mike Haynes. The Raiders used to play aggressive man-to-man, bump-and-run coverage in that defense. They had an attitude.

When I watched Carl Banks, my impression is he was talking about the physicality of Mark Collins and Tae Banks in run defense. When I think of Bill Belichick's old defenses, I think zone coverage, not man.

Eric, the point Carl made was that like Collins, Banks can come right in and start. He was not referring to their playing style.

Collins was an excellent press corner and could support the run well. Let's see how Banks measures up after the first season.

Mark Collins was a far superior player to Corey Webster . With “Where did he go ?” Webster , the Giants lost quite a few winnable games . And when their Giants careers ended , Mark went on to have an entire second career as a safety for the Chiefs and Seahawks . Webster did what exactly ?

Furthermore Parcells said Collins was one of the three most integral defenders in having success against the Niners. Were it not for the Giants , the San Francisco would have two additional Super Bowls .
It took Webster a few years, and Banks said Hawkins had the same tools

But is less “polished” than Webster was when drafted, but Webster became a pretty good player for us for a while
I believe Banks was being very general in his comments
Bob in Newburgh : 5/20/2023 12:06 pm : link
Banks and Webster are similar build types. However, Webster never demonstrated "wow" athleticism like Banks at the combine.

Bingo! to Mike. Body type is eerily similar to #36, thick for a Corner, but nimble, wiry and strong. And yes, not a ball hawk as such--'Tae may turn out better in that dep't
I see Mark Haynes too

Banks is pretty big for a corner. I never got that impression from watching Collins. If this kid reached his ceiling, he could be better than both. Hawkins is also a big kid, with a lot of tools. If he’s coachable, Henderson will have a lot of fun with him.
Collins was a very good tackler and physical player
ElitoCanton : 5/20/2023 6:37 pm : link
I think this was the point he was trying to make about Tae Banks. Not that they were similar as cover guys. Style of play in that respect is certainly different.
