Said about playing in the NFL, the opposition is always trying to find an advantage which includes knowing when another player is hurt. Brown decided that he would get up from being tackled or hit the same way every time. He would get up rather slow each time whether he was hurt or not to show the defenses when he was hurt. I believe he also felt there was a psychological advantage for him if the defense could not see him hurt
Received his autograph as a youngster at his high school (Manhasset) where he was being honored for lacrosse at halftime of a college game. Super nice to all the kids which was many.
I think I heard on one show him saying that he played nine years and never missed a play. Incredible.
that time were not centered like today, so the ball at times could have been placed near a sideline allowing defenses to hem RBs in. Didn’t matter with Brown.

He also is the only NFL RB to average 100+ yards per game for his entire career.
I grew up in a Long Island town in the same HS sports league as Manhasset and Brown was still a legend in football and lacrosse some 15 years later. Imagine playing HS football and having to tackle that guy...
at Yankee Stadium in the 50’s. Wow! GOAT. Sam Huff would spy him. Huff would tackle him even if he did not have the ball

Me too. My first NFL game live. 1959. Great player. A fullback when fullbacks could be stars. There have been great RBs, of course, but none who could carry a team game-after-game. He could be stopped but only if a team wanted to ignore everyone else.
RIP to the GOAT RB and Lax player. And on top of all that getting busy with a prime Raquel Welch. There should be an encyclopedia and dictionary entries for him as "The Man."
In my life , I would say the greatest player I ever saw.

I remember hearing a story that Huff would be yelling at Brown, "You stink" when they lined up and when he tackled him. Then Brown ripped off a big run and looked back to say, Hey Huff, how do I smell from here?"
I remember watching a game in the mid 90s & gushing over Sanders & declaring him the best back of all time & my old man chiming in, 'No he isn't. You're too young to remember Jim Brown. He's the back RB of all time.' Like usual-& Lord knows I don't tell him enough for his liking, Haha-but my old man was right.
Every year they made Yankees or Giants player available for local promotional appearances. We were not Yankee fans so it was always Giants players. When Sam Huff came he told this story.
"We were playing the Cleveland Browns and on first down I stopped Brown for no gain on a run up the middle. In the pile I told him: Brown you stink. On second down he ran left and we gang tackled him for no gain and in the pile I told him: Brown you stink. On third down he ran right and broke into the clear. I was chasing him, about ten yards behind him, when he looked over his shoulder and said: Hey Huff how do I smell from here?"
in movie history, 100 Rifles with Racquel Welch in 1969. He also hooked up with her in real life. Took a lot of shit for hooking up with white women. That's the world some of us grew up in. Also, the first famous athlete to involve himself in black power politics.
My Dad was always adamant that Jim Brown was the greatest player of all time. Probably could have played any position and been great. Man amongst boys. You can argue positional value when comparing Brady, Montana etc. but could they play linebacker? OL? Special teams (BB had a great story about LT playing special teams as a rookie and destroying the kicking game of other teams). One of my last talks with my Dad in 2014 was about the GOAT, and again he had Brown on top, LT a close 2.
RIP Mr. Brown.
talking about Sam Huff. Also, Brown flirted with the idea of coming back to the NFL at age 47. And he wasn't kidding.

You could only contain him( a little).
He could have written the book on how to fall forward to turn loss into no gain.
It was always exciting, as a Giants fan, to watch him get up slowly, hoping he was hurt…and always disappointing when he got back to the huddle and then ripped off a sweep into a 12 yard gain, the last 4-5 carrying that many opponents.
Truly saddened by his death.
With much respect, R.I.P. Jim Brown, the G.O.A.T.

Not discounting Brown, but when the Giants drafted Tucker Fredrickson, it was said that he was the best player at 7 positions that year.
Picture from the endzone of Brown running down the left sideline with 11 Giants strewn on the ground after attempting to tackle the man unsuccessfully. GOAT.
Played Lacrosse against him in college, said he lined him up for a big hit. Woke up in the second half. His teammates told him the Brown never broke stride.

I think there were maybe two Conference Championship games NYG vs Cleveland Brown, maybe even consecutive years, one in particular, in the snow that Summerall won with a late FG: it didn't matter if the turf was dry, sloppy, or mud, Brown ran as hard and as nearly unstoppable on all. GOAT indeed.
Greg, thanks for that lax photo, what a bod. Can only imagine how defensemen cringed at trying to check him as he neared the crease. hooo boy
One of my golfing buddies' dad went to Syracuse during that time. Art Troilo was the team's running back:
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/art-troilo-1.html
There was a kid who was brought over from the lacrosse team.
Art, now passed away, sprained his ankle and couldn't play.
The kid, Jim Brown, played running back but was missing something in his first game as he tried to run away from defenders and tried to dodge them. Art, as the more experienced footballer, took him aside and said, 'Why are you trying to run away from these guys and trying to make them miss? You're bigger than any of them (back then Brown's 230lbs was huge) just run them over! Well we all know what happened after that. Jim Brown's trademark was running over defenders the rest of his illustrious career. Brown had a much better game the next time he played and needless to say, my friend's dad, Art, never played much after his ankle healed.
While playing catch with my son at the Meadowlands in the mid 1990s a bus pulls into the lot and out walks Christine Todd Whitmann (campaigning) and Jim Brown walks out right behind. I grabbed the football from my son and ran over. Got both signatures and put the ball in the trunk of my car. My son was pissed as he still wanted to play. I still have the ball but unfortunately have no way to verify the signature.
Saw him play lacrosse, said he was an unbelievable athlete.
Sad day.
Not only was as great an athlete as there ever was, he saved the world from the Martians
I think I heard on one show him saying that he played nine years and never missed a play. Incredible.
My rankings of the greatest players of all time has LT, one, Brown, two…
RIP to a real legend.

Had to change the MLB position to cope with him.
I think this was the play
