Didn't think Cash had the balls. Welcome back Greg Allen.
He lost his confidence with the Yankees

Yup, he was an elite defensive outfielder before he blew out his elbow. Maddeningly streaky and inconsistent as a hitter, but there was a time when he was a valuable player. Just never worth that stupid contact Cash gave him

From the Post -

“It is what it is,” Hicks told The Post. “It’s part of the business side of it. Just got to move on to the next chapter.

“This is a very good baseball team,” he added. “It kind of seemed like it wasn’t working out for me. Obviously with the decision they decided to make, maybe somewhere else might be a little bit better.”

He was a good player in his day. But that was in the past - as you say, the contract was the problem. Never made sense.

The time the contract was not too bad . 10 million per year is not much. I have to believe ( we will never know) he probably wanted a change of scenery himself.

It was the 7 years that was dumb (especially in hindsight - still owe him 3 years $30 million). Guess that was the going rate at the time, but not a good deal for a guy as streaky and injury prone as Hicks

Think at the time, the Yankees seen how Cleveland and Atlanta were gambling on in the long run would be cheaper. Remember Hal is a little tight on the payroll. They also did it with Sevy.

Sort of related but if you want to use the Braves as a model than the Yankees are total failures. If the Yankees were smart they would of locked judge for a long term deal as soon as he won ROY. Would of gotten him for a much lower AAV than he's currently getting thats for damn sure. But what's done is done.

BTW, the Blue Jays manager crapped his pants today causing the starting pitcher (fat jackass Manoah) to have to come out of the game. I guess the idiot forgot that the pitching coach already went to the mound earlier that inning.

Yup, down 4-1 no big deal when this offense is going

As good as his stat line always is, unless you follow the Yanks every day you probably can’t fully appreciate what Judge means to the team. At the risk of sounding hokey, his aura is a real asset. No surprise they struggled for 2 weeks with him on the shelf, and are rolling since he came back

Side note: never thought I’d say this, but IKF taking the utility OF role and running with it is what made Hicks expendable. He made a really tough catch in the sun in LF today. And added another HR. He’s proving a legit asset
Upcoming Baltimore series after this one is looming a little large for

Went 2-4 today. Hypothetically, if he hits better than the other two catchers, which would you release. I have no idea. Trevino I think calls a better game. Higgs might have more power. How’re, I think trivino is more clutch. I think no matter what Rodvert does, when trivino comes off the IL he gets sent down.

If Ben was that good, Higgy would have been gone a long time ago. Trevino is going nowhere.

The umps made a bad call in the 1st inning by calling a Cincinnati fair ball dropped by Bauers foul. Then they made a second bad call allowing Jonathan India to score from 1st (should have been a ground rule double) and Boone got thrown out

Are you sure about the foul ball? I don't have peacock, so I can't watch this game and didn't see it. But, it is a common mistake by fans to think if the player is in fair territory and touches the ball while it is over foul territory that the dropped ball is fair because the player is fair. That is not correct.

It was definitely a fair ball. Bauer made contact with the ball while he was clearly in fair territory.

After review batter was given a double which I have no problem with but the runner from first should’ve been sent back to third. As soon as the ump signaled foul ball the play is dead, and just because the runner kept running hen the play is dead doesn’t mean he should score. Especially when the Yanks eased up on the foul call.

I don’t blame Boone one bit for getting tossed as the Yanks got penalized for the umps mistake.

The umpires incorrectly assumed that India would score. It was 99% likely India would score but you can't assume it because there's always a very slim chance the runner trips up or falls down rounding 3rd

Not just that but it’s not like a normal grounds rule double call where they can judge it based on where the runner trying to score is when the ball goes out of play. On this play the ball is dead as soon as it’s signaled foul. That changes everything on how all the players react and proceed. Hell, it even looked like India let up a bit rounding third and the home plate ump was also clearly in relax mode due to the foul ball call.

That's the point. It doesn't matter that the fielder is in fair territory 100%. If the ball is deemed to be over foul territory when he contacts it, it is a foul ball.
The play with India was the same play?
Matt M. : 5/21/2023 1:35 pm : link
If so, this is the second time this year I've seen a play called dead initially by an umpire, but the runner allowed to score because he kept running. The other was a HS or college game a month or so ago.

Yeah I should’ve been clearer. Bauers made contact with the ball while it was clearly in fair territory. Granted, he was too but you’re right. He can be in fair but if the ball is in foul territory it’s a foul ball. This play the ball was clearly fair when he made contact while sliding into foul territory.
