Let's chit chat here and keep everything on this thread for both games today. Here are the starting pitcher matchups for both games followed by the starting lineups for both clubs for Game #1:
Eric on LI made a good point on if Buck will play them both or not later. It's also a good opportunity to rest Pete at 1B. Who will he play in both games? Questions, questions...
if ever there was a time to do it this is kind of it. the mets were great in DH'ers last year, they have scherzer/jv on the mound, day off yesterday, depth with the young guys to have fresh lineups both games.
they havent had a real winning streak all year so now would be a really good time for that.

The Mets have a day off tomorrow too, so they also have that to their advantage. a little urgency form Buck here would be nice. These aren't throw-away/evaluation games as Buck might think.
would be great to know what we have with him before the deadline.

Jose Quintana threw a bullpen session yesterday. Said it went well and that Quintana was “excited” with the results. #Mets
When will he back again? July or August, as originally reported? Maybe in a month now that things seem to be going well? Wouldn't it be great if he could replace Cookie in the starting rotation to boot?
I understand playing some because of the doubleheader, but no need to play them all. Buck’s obsession with his veterans is growing really tiresome. And fuck Gary Sanchez. There is zero point to him being on this team.

Was the Sanchez experiment all Eppler? Has to be, right?

I’d say that, yes, this is another one of Eppler’s unimaginative moves. Poor defensive catcher and poor offensive player (unless they are “hoping” that Sanchez will hit like he did - sometimes - years ago). But for a part time, back up type of catcher, we already have those.
My issue is with him being on the roster after this game. If he takes a single at bat away from Baty/Vientos then it will just further cement how out of touch and bad Eppler/Buck are.

You aren’t having Alvarez catch both games of the doubleheader and Scherzer needs less hand holding from a defensive specialist
he swung at a ball a little out of the zone aggressively and almost got it (89mph exit velo). it was a ball he can/probably should hit out but at least he tried. id imagine a fraction closer to the barrel and it's a 95mph+ 3 run homer.
he's either going to need to learn to get more aggressive and look to do more damage or park himself on the bench as a pinch hitter.

Has to be. Probably knows him from when he was still with Yanks possibly?

I was thinking the same regarding their Prisonstriper's connection.
eppler was hired by yankees in 2004 and left after the 2015 season so they crossed over for almost a decade probably from whenever the yankees started scouting him before signing him.
RE: sanchez got $3m as an IFA from yankees in 2009

Thanks Eric. Who's quicker on the info draw? You or Dan? lol
Gary said something to the effect Sanchez has an elite arm in throwing runners out, which reads to me as the deterrent to keep guys like straw, kwan and Rosario from stealing. And adds pop. Makes sense to me.
What the fuck is your problem dude? You come on here and do nothing but bitch and bash. I really wonder if you can even backup all your tough talk in person. Love to see it

he and guillorme performing well over the next few weeks would really give them a lot of options as they prepare for the deadline.

Wow! Great news indeed. Good point about the Mets now moving towards deadline mode. Can teams trade players they sign as free agents the previous offseason at any time Eric, or is that old June 15th rule regarding that situation still in effect?
so historically with a slow runner, the odds of getting that run home were right on the borderline.
sanchez hit the ball 79mph
escobar hit the ball 63mph
2 pretty unimpressive at bats. they had to get 1 run across but obviously a big hit would have been better because then maybe you could have saved at least 1 of raley/otto/robertson for later.
mets have 7 hard hit balls today, all from the top 6 of the order. none from vogey, sanchez, escobar.
Last night. P Sandoval had some bad luck but I wonder if he would be an option at deadline if they fall out of it, lefty with a few years left of control but there’s Eppler ties too
Always liked him. Just a thought
there's the 8th hard hit ball of the day for the mets (108.8mph)
has generally looked pretty good out there. Strong arm too. Same with Vientos the other game. Between those two and the hand-wringing over Conforto’s “lack of defense” reports when he was in the minors…I don’t believe what any of these guys say anymore. The reports about defense are so wrong more times than not.

David Peterson today for Triple-A Syracuse:
8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K
if marte gets a hit that scores 2 so i assume no moves. but if he gets out or walks there's a decision.
Here's his line today:
-86 pitches (55 strikes)
-6 I.P.
-3 hits
-0 R (ER)
-1 BB
-5 K
4.01 ERA
P.S. Nice play by Baty on that first out defensively at 3B! He got low and looked conident and sure of himself there.
Kinda like Sanchez in this spot
