Let's chit chat here and keep everything on this thread for both games today. Here are the starting pitcher matchups for both games followed by the starting lineups for both clubs for Game #1:
Can we expect anything out of Dylan Bundy at SYR ?? Or is he just filling out the roster at this stage of his career ??

They would understandably be angry. He gives them a better chance to WIN! Isn't that what it's SUPPOSED to be about?!
I'm very glad to see this. Hard to believe everyone can see it would be a big mistake, except possibly the one or two who are making the decision. I hope this gets back to them. Hope it gets back to Uncle Steve.
It would be ridiculously bad judgment to send him down. We lost the freaking div last yr on a tie breaker and they pissed away multiple games already this yr by being stubborn about the kids.

Bundy has been beyond bad so far in Syracuse. 12 homers allowed over 25 innings
In minor league action Matt Rudick doing Matt Rudick things is 2-3 with a 2b, SB and a K. Junior Santos continues to struggle. Era up to 6.81 after allowing 6 runs over 5.2 innings (strongly believe they should consider a move to the BP for him)
Rudick has now reached based multiple times 4 of his last 5 games and May 11th was the last time he did not reach base a span of 11 games. No particular rush but a summer in Syracuse may be part of his immediate future #Mets

it will be interesting to see what his exit velo looks like whenever they bring him up to AAA. would think that should happen in the next month or so. one of the more impressive years i can remember still with a very modest babip in the kind of normal range (.340). i figure it will be low but who knows he's on a 20 homer/50xbh pace. anything mcneil-ish would be a good sign i think.
Rudick now 3-4, HR, 2B, SB, 3 runs, 3 rbi. Average up to .322. Just a completely massive start to the season for a guy who I don't believe was on *any* Mets top 30-40 prospects lists that I saw
Not only is Matt Rudick off to an incredible start. He's doing despite a lineup that has been awful around him. Bing has 1 other hitter with an OPS over .700 (Peroza) and Rudick and Peroza are the only 2 hitting over .240
their backup catcher is currently austin wynns and he's been cut twice already this year. he's 32 and hitting .185 with a 45% k rate.
diaz is having a great year but he is also 32 and historically not been good.
daniel bard or brad hand maybe? their bullpen has been pretty strong this year beyond both of them and they could save some $ while filling the C spot. bard has a sub-1 era but his peripherals are awful. he's walking 7 guys per 9. hand probably the more sensible target.

With the way Colorado is using Bard my assumption is he's not yet ready for pressure spots so bringing him to NY might not be ideal (or even something they would want to subject him to). He's had ongoing issues with anxiety.

maybe im not sure whoever the mets get at this stage would pitch late, just another option ahead of smith/otto/raley/robertson. he was here a couple years ago so who knows.
you can close your eyes and point at anyone in the COL BP and they'd be an upgrade here (and vice versa with the mets C room for COL).

Outside of Mauricio, he has to be the best minor league surprise so far this season, unless I'm missing someone. I see he has 8 starts in CF this year and has played some CF in prior years. What are the reports on him sticking at CF defensively? I know I saw an excellent diving catch of his the other day. If the Mets wind up dealing Ramirez, would be nice to have Rudick as a 4th OF option down the road in the majors who can play a capable CF
had Bard on my fantasy team so I was following him and they really have used him in the lowest leverage situations imaginable. Maybe that changes but it almost feels like it would be cruel to him if he's dealing with stuff to send him to NY.

When he was drafted it was suggested his range/arm would be subpar in CF. If that's changed, you're guess is as good as mine.
hit throughout college, but the knocks were a 5'7-5'8" kid with very limited power (5 career college homers) who profiled tools wise as more of a corner guy. So far this season he's showing surprising pop.

Also sets him up to pitch vs. Phillies rather than Rockies. Would be scheduled then for next Sunday vs. Blue Jays, but they could push him back until that Tuesday vs. Braves
@Mets LHP Javier Atencio has been removed from the roster and sent to the FCL Mets. Atencio was off to a rough start to say the least (11.09 era) replacing him with @stluciemets is RHP Candido Cuevas who impressed me a bit last season in the DSL
he's a catcher and needs days off, but the Mets were off on Saturday and Monday and he only played one game on Sunday. That's now 3 out of 4 days he's going without playing.
Why not actually try and set this kid up for success Buck? Why give a AAAA washout like Sanchez so much faith? It's not like he's even a big clubhouse guy having been here for less than a week. I just don't get it.
Mark Canha is 1/12 with 3 k's vs. Smyly for his career, Pham 1-5 with a HR. Biggest takeaway should be allowing Baty to start at 3b vs. a lefty vs. Escobar at 3b or Vientos. Vientos is also hitting 5th. TBH, less to complain about than usual
had Bard on my fantasy team so I was following him and they really have used him in the lowest leverage situations imaginable. Maybe that changes but it almost feels like it would be cruel to him if he's dealing with stuff to send him to NY.
i misread your last post and thought you meant hand, i agree bard isnt a great fit right now for that and the salary. he is walking so many guys and costs a lot just not really worth it.
hand is a guy who has been dfa'd more than sanchez and he's older that's a reasonable 1 for 1. it could be argued nido has more value over 2 reasonable years than hand for just 1 (at the same $).
that's a deal i think id do though. he has good numbers this year, a second lefty, and he has late game experience. the velocity is still there who knows.

kind of agree. i very much think they are trying to showcase sanchez.
also 1 thing to remember re alvarez - he is on pace to catch more innings than he ever has in a prior year. last year he did the same and had the ankle issue in september.
unlike other positions i dont mind a little extra rest for a catcher. just dont send him down.

1 - The Mets need to manage the amount of innings that Alvarez catches. The fact that he's on pace to catch more innings than he ever has in a prior year is something to keep in mind. The problem with his ankle that popped up in September is something that didn't happen by coincidence.
2 - They're probably showcasing Sanchez so they can possibly get something for him. I don't know what they can get for him, but there are some clubs around MLB that could possibly use him. Might as well try.
1- If you're not starting Escobar today, then when? He's CRUSHED Smyly
2- If Escobar starts at 3b, then the complaint is that you're sitting Baty.
3- They are letting Baty face a lefty vs. a stupid platoon
4- They are hitting Vientos 5th
5- Yeah, McNeil could have started over Pham in LF but McNeil is 0-5 vs. Smyly and now is the time to trot Pham out there in clear "facing lefty" situations and/or find out if they need an upgrade from him. If not now, when?
6- Keeping McNeil's legs fresh isn't the worst idea given his history of leg issues
7. I don't expect much from Gary Sanchez but he's the kind of bat a guy like Barnes/Hinske might want to work with. A guy who is "talented" but never really figured it out. Let's not forget 2016-2017 Gary Sanchez over 175 games had a .923 OPS, 2019 he had an .841 OPS. He's not a complete zero for his career.
Quick fantasy baseball question - I hope no one minds
Q: if you had a pitcher who will serve as an "opener" would you keep them in your lineup that day? In question is Matt Strahm (PHI) and I believe he will only be the opener today and I'm not sure much good can come from that. he can't get the win since he's not going 5, and he can't get the save obviously. What would you do?
I can replace him in my lineup with a reliever like Bryan Abreu (HOU) or Jorge Lopez (MIN) - both middle relievers with W/S potential and decent ratios (my league has ratios like WHIP, K/BB as pitcher categories).
If the idea is to play him more in the OF (potentially significantly more if Mauricio comes up) then they 100% should look to give him rest days when feasible.

Alvarez not being in there vs a lefty is disappointing. Maybe this is about getting some trade value established with Sanchez (I hope).
It's nice to see Vientos moved up in the order in a good RBI spot, and Baty getting another start against the lefty. I have no problem with Escobar being in the lineup. He's pretty good against lefties and obviously having prior success against this pitcher in particular.
