not completely discount him. This is a guy who New England was high on, but it did not work out because of injuries. He actually signed his RFA tender in March before the Patriots cut him a few days ago.
Like a couple of other guys on the roster vying for back-up spots, this is another relatively high draft pick from another team who could restart his career here.
Patriots released him on the 18th, saving about $2.7M in cap space. That amount will of course be reduced by the salary of whoever eventually replaces him.
As others have said, he has hardly played since being drafted in 2019. But there is no harm in bringing him in for a visit. Our swing tackles right now are Phillips, Peart, Hamilton, and Cunningham, who are all journeymen at best.

Was benched after the first series of his third start early last year when he allowed a strip sack. Didn't start again. He gave up QB pressures on almost 10 percent of his pass plays. Maybe he can move inside?
On a side note, for those who like to bash the Giants drafting, Belichik had 10 picks in 2019. This release means all 10 are gone. One left by free agency. Just a bad draft year? The Giants still have Jones, Lawrence, Ximines, and Slayton, and Love just left. After the draft the Pats were roundly given one of the highest grades for their picks. Only 2 had any impact, Damien Harris at RB and 5th round punter Jake Bailey. Harris recently left NE and signed with the Bills, posting a "Free at Last" Instagram message after signing.
But how do you sign a RFA tender in March and be placed on IR in ??month 2023 before being cut this month? k2Tampa's post is cautionary re. % pressures on passing plays, yet Sy' is 'relatively' high on him, at least w/r/t Peart, which is not saying a ton.
Only acceptable if you are carrying 2 backup OTs or if

I can't find anything that says he was placed on IR in 2023. He was on the active roster for their last game (Jan. 8). There is no IR in the off season. He signed his tender in March and was cut last week.
He is a better option than Peart by a solid margin.
Not sure why. They were rated basically equally coming out (Peart actually was a little higher in most places). And to be fair, Peart probably performed a little better when given the chance, though neither was stellar. Heck, he started 5 (the last 4 at left tackle) games in 2021 when Thomas was hurt and the 4 win Giants went 2-3, and just lost 20-17 to the Chiefs on the road. In 156 pass attempts he gave 2 sacks. Then Judge's coaching staff decided he wasn't tough enough. Peart has given up pressures on 6.7 percent of his pass blocking plays. Cajuste's rate is over 9 percent.
would say this guy's a better option than Peart by a solid margin. There's absolutely no evidence for that, just inherent bias. Let's see if Peart improves under this coaching staff.
Also, Phillips was not a train wreck last year either. Some people expect backups to play like all-pros, not realistic.

You do realize Sy scouted both players in college.

And we have seen them both in the pros. Based on that Peart has been marginally better, and played at left tackle.
My apologies, I didn't realize you were so familiar with the ins and outs of both players at the pro level in terms of their potential in helping the 2023 squad.

Wow. Harsh. I told you once back in the early 2000s why my job allowed me to read the site but not post. I also know the facts are one guy, who only plays right tackle, has given up more sacks and pressures than the other, who has started one more game (6) and played four of them at left tackle. Both have done little. Both have significant injury histories. It's highly unlikely either ever makes an impact. I do know from what I have seen I don't want Cajuste guarding Jones' backside, something Peart did for 4 games (2 of which they won along with a 20-17 loss to Super Bowl bound KC on the road). Cajuste is significantly better? Not based on their play. Yeah, that's just my opinion based on the numbers and what I've seen of both. Others can think differently if they want. It's a free country.
Love what Sy does, read it all, enjoy it, and take it for what it is, one man's opinions. He has big misses every year. Adebawore? Simpson? Torrance? Wimpler? Washington? He had Haskins as his top QB is 2019. Said he was intelligent and understood concepts (yet couldn't read defenses) and wouldn't be a "troublemaker". He had Billy Price as the fifth best interior lineman in 2018, right being Isaiah Wynn (Giants fans know how both turned out). DeAndre Baker? "Another safe pick here that may have a limited upside, but at this position you just want reliable. That is Baker in a nutshell."
"Scouting", no matter who is doing it and whatever their background, is an inexact endeavor. No one is infallible, even the guys who work for NFL teams.
RE: Not exactly dependable in the smart, Tough and dependable scale
God... for the 19999th time. Dabs said 100 times, "dependable" has nothing to do with health. It's about being depended upon to be in the right place at the right time on the field, showing up on time for meetings, working hard at practice, sticking to rehab schedules, etc., etc, etc.
My apologies, I didn't realize you were so familiar with the ins and outs of both players at the pro level in terms of their potential in helping the 2023 squad.

So you're saying Schoen is an idiot for having come visit? Gotcha.

Former #Patriots OT Yodny Cajuste will be visiting the #Jets today and the #Giants tomorrow, per source.
Candidate for the All IR team. Not ‘dependable’ even as the swing tackle.

Not saying the guy is a stud, but he gets cut and both New York teams ask him to come visit immediately.
You do not want him on the blindside.
After that, we are into guys like Matt Peart and Devery Henderson playing meaningful snaps in the event of an injury.
Good point.
If is the key word….sounds like another headache we don’t need. I’ve had it with guys who can’t stay healthy.

I'm told free agent OT Yodny Cajuste is indeed visiting with #NYGiants today as anticipated, per source.
Former Patriot could be option to add to swing/depth tackle with starter experience if price fits. Cajuste reportedly met with Jets yesterday.
