Good luck. Very nice career
But a ball stopping .. me first .. self proclaimed superstar
If I had a vote. Not a first ballot HOF
NCAA Champion. But poor nba playoff record
Last opinion. Forcing Knicks to trade for him and not waiting for free agency was just a selfish move
Like I said. Nice career but not great Just my opinion
If your goal is to win, not a great player (no a contributing piece towards winning).
If your goal is to win, not a great player (no a contributing piece towards winning).
I still say this is hard to argue when he won in college and internationally. He is obviously a contributing piece towards winning.
Winning a title in the NBA is one of the hardest things in sports to do, and some of the greatest of all time didn't win an NBA ring.
Chris Paul also doesn't have an NBA ring, and Dwayne Wade never won anything without Shaq and without James as backup.
Melo got as far as you can get without a championship roster.
Still a top 75 player and one of the top Knicks of all time, everyone kills him for forcing a trade early but how many wanted to come to the Knicks and take on that burden?
He embraced NY and tried to bring a championship I don't know anyone else but Brunson that has done that.
Still one of my favorite Knicks of all time.
For stretches, Carmelo showed he could be that guy. He could hit the open guy when he wanted to. But he chafed at the role, and fell into the iso black hole from which he dominated in his early career. But the game changed and he never adjusted.
This ball hog/black hole nonsense is an exaggeration his play. Guys who supposedly play the right way like Kawhi Leonard (excluding first 3 years in the league) and Paul George average similar number of assists and shots per game without being call a ball hog. But yeah, Carmelo is the black hole, etc...
and people conveniently leave out that that team was trending in the wrong direction and likely would of ended uo missing the playoffs if it wasnt for Melo..
This whole he doesnt effect winning is a load of crap, all he did was make the playoffs in the west with Denver and carried those teams..
first ballot HOF easily, wanted the Knicks whrn no one else did..
Willis Reed won a MVP and finished second the following season. The Knick with the highest MVP finish outside of him isn’t Patrick Ewing, Clyde Frazier, or Bernard King. It’s Melo.

Yes, he had 1 great season as a Knick when he was 3rd in MVP voting. He only got votes in one other season. Ewing was top 5 MVP in six seasons as a Knick. Don’t make like he’s the greatest Knick since Reed.

The greatest Knick since Reed was Andrea Bargnani of course

You stated a fact out of context of other relevant facts. That’s a couched opinion.

It’s not out of context because the purpose was never to imply that he was a better Knick than those guys. That would be ridiculous. The purpose was to inform. TBH, I never thought that anyone would take it that way. I simply posted a fact about Melo.
17 wins in 2002 before Melo
43 wins his rookie season with an eh roster around him. Then 49, 44, 45, 50, 54, 53, 50. Then melo leaves and outside of 1 lucky season, they were a perennial 30-35 win team.
I'll just say this: He was the single most frustrating Knick of my life as a Knicks fan, and that includes Charles Smith (those misses) and John Starks (that game).
The Knicks could be cruising, moving and grooving, dishing and swishing. Enter Carmelo, late game, and the action would stop. Ball to Melo. Iso bullshit.
He was good enough that sometimes? It worked out. But fuck all, if he didn't drain the life out of many Knicks would-be wins.
One of my son's favorite players. One of my least-favorite. We still joust over it. lol
for Hall of Fame - who cares. I was simply delighted when the Knicks traded him - and who they got in return was immaterial. I knew that ultimately the Knicks would improve with Anthony gone.
The Melo trade was a good move for the Knicks. It’s comical to argue otherwise.
The moves after getting Melo was disastrous. They put dogshit around him his entire time with the Knicks. And that includes players, coaches and front office.
@KnicksMuse
The Knicks rotation in Melo’s last game as a Knick
Ron Baker
Courtney Lee
Carmelo Anthony
Maurice Ndour
Willy Hernangomez
Chasson Randle
Sasha Vujacic
Mindaugas Kuzminskas
Justin Holiday
Kyle O’Quinn
Marshall Plumlee

Yup build around Gallo and Amare, The same Gallo who played 54 games in the 2 years after the trade..
It’s why I never buy the fact when BBI’ers here say they’ve become “numb” to the Giants. If you were numb you wouldn’t be here posting, haha.
As for Melo, I appreciate him taking on the challenge and coming here. Great scorer.
Also, FWIW, he was probably among the more well liked stars around the league when it came to his contemporaries (how many guys were close with LBJ, Kobe, and KD?)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Knicks have given out some of the worst contracts in the history of the league - but the Ron Baker contract, despite being relatively small, might be the most ridiculous.
You could've had
CP3
Smith
Melo
Sheed/K-Mart/KOQ/etc...
Tyson
History looks a lot different.
