I’m not a fan of the Scottish Hammer who doesn’t know how to corner kick inside the 20 yard line. And I believe both Schoen and Daboll were instrumental in getting Araiza drafted.
The criminal proceeding was dropped so he is now out there ready and waiting by his phone for some smart team with a need to swoop down and carry him away. Why can’t it be NY?
Anyone else all in on this proposal? Anyone strenuously object? Let’s here it….
But just because Matt Araiza has a historically good leg doesnt make him an amazing punter. Accuracy and hang time are what matters.
Remember anyone else on the giants named Matt who was a punter with a booming leg who couldn't handle the pressure in NYC? hmmmmm
you object once so they can hear you say he's not a criminal.
you keep after it they way you did and suddenly our great loophole looks like a bunch of fancy lawyer tricks.
Id be OK signing him for the Minimum and may the best man win but its not that likely.
It may not seem like a big deal, but keeping Gano comfortable has got to be built into the equation as well.
Could putting Araiza on the PS be an idea? A little unorthodox for a Punter, but this seems like a unique situation.

I think he would have to be on the 90-man roster and clear waivers in order to make it to the practice squad. That would mean Gillian is still the punter and anyone who needs a kicker can poach Araiza.
Not sure how Araiza would not make any Giant fan excited. I believe he was one of the best, if not the best, when he came out from college.
He has uncorked some monsters, certainly, both in college and in his brief pre-season appearance with Buffalo. So his highlight reel is great. If that were all it takes to be a successful NFL punter, he'd be at somebody's minicamp, booming balls into the stratosphere. And once the legal attention fades, he'll probably get a chance - maybe several chances. But he has a lot to work on, aside from improving his party etiquette.
You're assuming that there's no competition for Araiza's services, and that signing him would cost nothing. For all we know, other teams have offered him guaranteed salary and/or up-front cash. Araiza is a SoCal kid who chose to stay local for college. Maybe New Jersey wouldn't be his first choice, especially since he would have to compete with an incumbent who just got a decent bonus. (Buffalo drafted him, so his time there doesn't say much about his geographic preferences.)
