NFT: Ray Stevenson, actor dies at 58

Optimus-NY : 5/22/2023 3:00 pm
Loved him man. Just heard the news from one of the WhatsApp groups I'm in. Loved him in "Rome" as Titus Pullo, in "Kill the Irishman" as Danny Greene, "Punisher: War Zone" as the titular character, and loads more. No cause of death was made available. He died yesterday in Italy.

Ray Stevenson, Actor in ‘Punisher: War Zone,’ ‘RRR’ and ‘Thor’ Films, Dies at 58 - By Jordan Moreau - May 22, 2023 10:17am PT - Variety.com - ( New Window )
I liked him too.

Bollywood film RRR, in which he was the main (and somewhat cartoonishly evil, tbh) villain is not a bad watch.
He was great in Rome

Added a surprising amount of depth and humanity to a character who is basically just a violent meathead.

+1

He and Kevin McKidd were excellent. Remember these scenes Greg?

Rome (HBO) - Gladiator Scene of Pullo (Part 1)

Rome (HBO) - Gladiator Scene of Pullo (Part 2)
Jeez, WTF

He's great, that really sucks. Too fucking young, man.

I’ll chime in, those two were GREAT, the whole cast in fact.
Hardly looks like him in the photo

way too young!
Weird…

Love his roles, particularly Kill the Irishman, but reading this struck me like James Gandolfini. A relatively young actor, characterized as a tough guy with a heart, who died on vaca in Italy. Not like conspiracy-weird, but just more coincidence-weird.

He was awesome in Rome, and I thought he was going to be a bigger star. The Pullo/Octavian relationship is one of my favorite parts of the series.

I liked him everything I saw him in:Rome, Thor, black sails, and Dexter. RIP
I recently resubscribed to HBO. Might fire up Rome and re-watch. For 1.5 seasons it was as good as HBO got
He was great in Kill the Irishman, it's worth watching

...kind of an under the radar mob movie.

I downloaded it for a plane ride thinking I was downloading Scorsese's The Irishman. When I stared it I was like "what the fuck is this?"

I actually like it better than The Irishman.

Sorry to hear. Rome was a great show, and there are several terrific portrayals, but his Titus Pullo is always the first thing I think of.

Rome was amazing.

IMO a ton better than GOT. Just an amazing show. He was awesome in it for sure

RIP

Indeed. One of my favorite ever shows. The acting and screenplay were top shelf. Was so devastating what happeneds to the set. Would have been incredible to see the remsining drama play out
It had already been cancelled before the sets burned up
Greg from LI : 5/23/2023 9:43 am : link
It was cancelled because it was so expensive to film. The first two seasons were a joint production between HBO and BBC, spreading the costs out, but BBC wasn't going to extend the agreement. HBO would have then bore the costs alone, and it was more expensive than they were willing to do alone.
Does GOT happen without Rome?

Rome was a fantastic watch. Way too young, RIP.
