YouTube TV Roku question

Jon C. in MD : 5/22/2023 8:04 pm
I'm new to YouTube TV. Watching on my Roku device. Was watching the Giants Packers replay on NFL Network earlier tonight. I paused the game to eat dinner, and after 5-10 minutes, the YouTube TV app closed and Roku went to screensaver. When I reopened the YouTube TV app, the game was nowhere to be found.

This is obviously unacceptable during the NFL season. I am used to DirecTV where I could pause for quite a bit of time.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a YouTube TV app issue, or if I need to find a new streaming device to connect to my TV.

Has anyone had similar problem or success using other steaming devices, like maybe Apple TV??

Thanks!
You may have to turn off screensaver on your

Roku settings. You can also mark all NFL games as recorded so if a tech issue does arise, it’s saved to the cloud for your to restart/pick up where you left off.

Thanks! Trying that now.
Screensavers are pretty much obsolete now

they originally added them to help with burn in - going from static image to motion definitive helps but most TVs don’t have that worry anymore.
Waiting.....screen burn in?

So, I'm patiently waiting to see what happens if I leave it paused for a long time.

Is there a screensaver in YouTube TV that kicks in eventually to keep my tv screen from burning in?

Ha. I asked too soon. Thanks!
Thanks!

That totally worked. Trusting that my screen won't burn in. But I can always turn off the tv too when I'm going to walk away for an extended period of time.
I doubt you’d get burn in

only ones susceptible these days are OLEDs and it’s rare.

But you can just hit the record button and then exit the app. It should let you resume whoever you want from where you left off or let you restart.
Looks like others got the screensaver figured out

When you re-open the Youtube TV app, it should start you off with the Home screen. It will show Top Picks For You which are live shows, games on that you would watch. If you scroll down you should see Resume Watching, and there you will find the Giants-Packers replay you were watching.

This is what bugs me about Rokus. I use an Android TV and I can go to the home screen, open other apps, go back to Youtube TV and its still open right where I left off. The new Chromecasts have Android TV I believe and they have a simple remote like the Rokus. Worth considering.
We have had Youtubetv for 3 years now

We use both Roku and Firesticks. In my opinion the Firestick is superior.. we just got a new LG 75"TV and LG sound bar with Roku ultra 4k it was super easy to set up and awesome
One of the nice things about YouTube TV is that it is very easy

to just save all Giants games or all NFL games, etc. So you never have to worry about it.

One of the annoying things about YouTube TV is that it's not that easy to see which episodes of which show you were watching and restart where you left off. They only have a few shows in the "resume where you left off" list, after that you're on your own. I wish they'd fix that.
I just started You Tube TV with Rokus

I think it is great and a lot less money than Cable and has the NFL sunday ticket which is necessary for me to watch the Giants. It is a good service for me so far and you will get use to it.

For me it shows a completion bar under the episode that I watched and no bar if I didn’t watch it.
This is user error and a Roku setting

nothing to do with YT TV
You can add Giant games to your DVR library

in YouTube TV, that way you can either join in progress or go to the beginning of the broadcast.

It's incredible during NCAA FOOTBALL season, just set it to record all games, it finds and records them no need to find them yourself i record pga liv and LPGA golf the same way. Record it all to library and watch it at my convenience
I've got YTTV with Apple TV 4K, Google, and Roku

is that its more interactive than cable or TV and they can do a "better" job of targeting you with ads.

push the arrow buttons to get it back to the paused screen as opposed to the play button.
YouTube TV and vacation rental homes question
ThomasG : 5/23/2023 5:47 pm : link
Anybody know if I can allow my renters access to my YouTube TV account (at my second home) but only give them temporary access for like 30 days and limit their ability to purchase any videos/movies?

I want to give them full access to television channels while they are in my place but them no ability to have that continue once they are gone and take advantage of it further.
