NFT: Michael Block hole-in-one at PGA -

Del Shofner : 5/22/2023 9:55 pm
This was probably discussed in the PGA thread but I'm just catching up. Not only was this a hole-in-one at a major, and not only is this guy not a tour member but a teaching pro somewhere - but it's the shot itself. Usually there's a roll of some kind but he hit this shot right into the hole. Not sure I've ever seen a hole-in-one like this before.

He is a teaching pro at a public course here

In Mission Viejo . I’ve never met him, but I’ve played the course a few times. Very obscure blue collar guy and course

into a 185 yd par 3 into a 20 mph head wind and it was the same - flew directly into the hole on the fly. Hit the pin.

It does happen.

My ex-father-in-law won a Cadillac about 30 years ago in this exact type of scenario.

I got my one and only hole-in-one out here in Kona that way. It never touched the green. 132yds down hill.
he took a lot of club on that shot - 7 iron from 150 yards

Hovland used a 9 iron. Block's lucky that went in the hole, otherwise it could have been long. What a great story he's been this week. His up and down on 18 to clinch an invite next year was clutch.
Congrats to him. I've never seen a hole in 1 on the fly even on video.

That's a moment he'll never forget.

He would have been long. Probably an 8 iron for me. Which I would hit into trap...lol...

Great moment .
I’ve had two aces in my life.

The first one was 165 yards, slightly down hill, and went in on the fly. Slam dunk. I didn’t realize it until the group that had just left the green started yelling that it went in on the fly. I’m just as proud that I birdied the next hole after all the excitement of the hole in one.😀
Didnt look like a full swing

more like 3/4, probably goes long but he had a lot of green to work with. Incredible moment.

one of them was 1994 June 21, my birthday.

the second one was 1996 June 23rd, my wifes birthday.

I havent had one since then, but i've had 5 eagles on par 4s since then. Apparently i'm better at holing iron shots from the fairway than i am off the tee.

Just a great story

overall and the Ace is just the cherry on top.

To see a club pro play like this in a major was awesome.

Not equating it to an emergency goalie getting called in as that seems more common but the "feel good" part of the story is the same. Someone with some skill who didn't make it all the way gets a chance and makes the most of it.
It's gonna make a great movie!

Who's gonna star in it? I say Justin Timberlake.
