I know all us die hard Rangers fans are still upset by the way our team crapped out in last he playoffs, however there are still an exciting series going on between the Panthers and Hurricanes. Living only a few miles from where they play at least a few of us have some interest in the chase for the Cup. Two observations. It seems being at the top of your division means little. Also. Winning in the playoffs takes a tenuous effort. Something the Rangers forgot this year.
The Canes under Rod have seem to fizzle out in playoff series where their offense dries up. It happened against the Rangers last year and they've really struggled to score in this series. They've played three close games, but Bob has been all-world for the Panthers.

Those teams are playing the best, what are you going to do?
this is a little hyperbolic.
the only player of consequence they are missing from the regular season metro winning team is Svechnikov (who I agree is their best player and a big loss). Only other player out is Pacioretty, who played 3 games, is neither a sniper or had any impact on the regular season.
And Necas, Jarvis, Teraivainen, Kotkaniemi, etc. may be bottom 6 on CAR the way they order their lines, but none are really bottom 6 players on most teams. They're all on PP1 or PP2.
A lot of people thought Bobrovsky was done, including the Panthers who started journeyman JAG Alex Lyon the first three games of the playoffs against BOS.
Also, the Bobrovsky history is funny. He didn't start a regular season game in April, it was all Lyon - who was fantastic down the stretch and far more of a reason FLA is even in the playoffs than Bobrovsky.
Bobrovsky has been heroic in the playoffs, but no one saw this coming.

I wonder if people felt the same way when the league expanded from the original 6 back in the 60's and some of the new markets ended up with better teams than some of the original 6? Islanders/Rangers would be an example. It is what it is....the game is growing. And that should be a good thing.
You need more than that. Shesty was hot in the playoffs. But the rest of them team forgot how to consistently play to win and score goals in the playoffs.
I was surprised last night that Brind'Amour played Kotkaniemi so little. He's been active and conscientious both ways, near misses on Bob, an offensive instigator, active around the net, which is what you needed to get past Bob, rebounds, scuffles. He had very few shifts in 3rd.

Can't win a face off. Head coaches want centers on the ice in one goal games in the 3rd period when your playoff life is on the line who can win face offs.
Staal and Stastny down the stretch were the only two I noticed taking face offs. and they dominated (especially with Barkov out).
Only thing I can think of.

So much history and wisdom they couldn't field a team better than the new kids on the block
apropos nothing at all, Kenny Albert is such a poor pbp guy, awful, but the Eastern Conf Intermission and PG group are far superior to the Western Conf' buffoons. Liam says little, he facilitates, which is good; Henrik is enjoying himself, and Gretsky seems more comfortable, and Anson I always find intelligent.

Makes sense, do recall him fanning a couple of times, but jeez, get a wing with him who can. Canes' had a lot of zone time late, but not enough high danger, though I think one of their 'hits the post' efforts came in 3rd.

this topic (face offs) is why I could see the Rangers trading Chytil. He was/is brutal on face offs. Get a 2C, move Trocheck to 3C (with a couple more additions/changes).
I find Gretzky to be boring. I want him to be great, but I don't think he is. I do like his stories, but he isn't a good story teller. I probably like Anson the best of that group of regulars. Hank is really good too, but he's a goalie (no offense) but they just usually ask him the goalie questions and I think he's smarter than that.

ah, whatever...I just thought it was funny....I said nothing of the sort....chill
You are right. Thanks for fixing that error. Their top six were embarrassing. Notice the Panthers. Chip and chase. Something the top six won’t do
I had forgotten until I heard this morning on a podcast that Florida would not have made the playoffs if Pittsburgh didn't lose their last home game to the horrible Blackhawks. Now Florida looks unbeatable.
Crazy how sports goes sometimes!!

I happen to like Kenny Albert, and think he does a great job. The guy I really like is John Forslund. The Hurricanes owner did him wrong, I used to watch random Hurricanes games during the season just to listen to him do the games.
How do you think the NHL has ruined itself?

I am in NC and watch some Canes games now and then. Forslund is excellent and I always enjoyed listening to him call the games. However, Tripp Tracey makes most of their broadcasts unlistenable. Between his slurred words, making the ssame point 5 times in 10 minutes, and random exclamations it's like 'bring your kid to work day.'
Game 3 SB was as wide and high as the net.
3-2, 2-1, 1-0: how does FLA win G4? 0-0 but Carolina runs out of healthy players for period 12 and defaults?

Maniscalco is not a good PBP guy. Tracey is a homer and always has been. I can't believe they let Forslund go, he's happy in Seattle, but his family still lives in the Raleigh area I believe.
