NGT: Saleh shoving his chips into the middle of the table

A million things could go wrong. And there's the fact that Rodger's play last year was good, but it wasn't at an all time great level. The Jets had better hope it was disinterest in being in GB, but in my experience, as soon as talk of retirement comes out, it usually isn't long.

big difference between going "all in" pre-flop, and going all in on the turn (when Fassel did it), when you are clearly behind and much less likely to win.

One of things that was amusing about Fassel's "pushing the chips" speech about the playoffs was that he was going to be fired if he missed them. The Giants started 7-2 and had 2 bad losses. They were also playing an awful Cardinals team with Dave Brown at QB so he knew that he had a really good chance to win.

But Fassel usually used these tactics to get the players to rally around it. Eventually it blew up in his face in 2003 when he had players sign the shovel to indicate they were all working together to dig out of the hole they got in. They lost their last 8 and he quit before he was fired, but still coached that last game against Carolina.

Anyway, Saleh might as well say that stuff, because I think if the Jets don't win at least 1 playoff game to finish among the final 8 teams, he's gone.

Every coach should be talking about winning the Super Bowl. Hell, if the coach says the team stinks, the players usually pick that up, and use it for excuses.

For example, Tampa Bay Bucs Coach John McKay who was asked "what he thought of his team's execution", to which he replied "I'm in favor of it".

Sometimes these coaches can really misunderstand their role in their own demise. IF things go wrong for the Jets, this quote is going to hang over him and his team like a bad dream.

I don't see what Saleh said being any kind of a big deal at all.

If the Jets miss the playoffs, Saleh might be gone regardless of how high the expectations are. And if high expectations motivate players, it's worth it to raise expectations.

Saleh talks a lot for a man who has zero pelts on the wall. It is one for BB or Tomlin to opine like this, though it doesn't strike me as in the personality of either to say something like this.

But they have Rodgers now and not Wilson, a ton of cheap weapons, and youth( other than AR). I think his window is 2 years ….or if he wins one against lil Bill, which is like a NYJ SB win at this point.

They have no chance in the playoff with choker Rodgers.

He's basically acknowledging that they have one of the best rosters in the league. So he's exposing himself with these comments. He probably knows that he and Douglas are out if they miss the playoffs anyway so better to just lean into it.
