I ask this coming from a place of curiosity rather than from a place of judgement, but how do you think LPG is so well connected with all the Giants players? I understand he's at every game and does a bunch of great charity work, but why are all these guys in their 20s interested in becoming tight friends with this mid 50s dude from NY?
Again, not trying to make a dig at LPG, I just find it perplexing that the likes of OBJ, Saquon, etc. are all tight with a fan to this extent.
Curious if anybody has any insight.
Where Hope J was much loved and revered within and without the Giants organization, LPG became more of a fan symbol..
He also does a ton of giveaways with individual players, usually retired
I'm a big fan. It heats my pool very nicely.
Now that is funny..😂
From what I recall he does work but I also wonder how he affords to go to basically every game.
This guy

He was arrested once and charged with loan sharking.
He beat the charges, but still.
It's actually kind of sad that the Jets have a self appointed blowhard mascot with a better schtick than the Giants. I guess they can hang that accolade alongside their Snoopy Bowl trophies.
He does a TON of charity events, raffles off his personal items of memorabilia for charities, obviously loves the team, and offers people who follow his accounts some pretty cool and unique perspectives into Giants players and events.
The guy was even nice enough to reach out to me with a birthday wish for years on Facebook (not that I use Facebook anymore), which is of course a small thing, but it's a nice thing to take the time out to do, and again...how many other guys in his position do that kind of thing for other fans?
There's been a lot of chatter about his legal history, or how he makes his money, but to the best of my knowledge he hasn't been convicted of anything. And if he's not convicted of anything, how he makes his money isn't really any of my business. And to be clear, if it turned out that he was guilty of something, sure it would be very disappointing. But until that happens, why drag his name through the mud?
I mean, we're fans of a sport that props up guys that get away with far worse crimes than anything he's been accused of.
It's too bad he catches so much heat here. It would be fun to have him around as a regular poster.
Is his schtick cringe? Definitely. But so is middle-aged adults following football and dressing up in team colors as a hobby like we all do... though less so.
But even though it's cringe, there's nothing wrong with it.
He does his schtick without putting on kitschy war paint, or a darth vader mask, or Indian head dresses... only a minimal costume: custom jerseys and license plates. He doesn't bang a stupid drum, ring an annoying cowbell, or sit on somebody's shoulders and lead cheers. And the Giants NEVER feature him on TV, programming, or Jumbotron- like every other team does their "super fans," such as the Jets and Workmanscomp Ed. So he's a real fan, not a quasi-mascot.
There are all kinds of fans- and I prefer fans like him to the assholes who get trashed in the parking lot and then spend the entire game cluelessly standing up and blocking the view of everybody behind them.
I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he is the least cringe of all the 32 teams's "super fans."
I totally get if he is not your taste. Or if you don't trust his insider information. Or if you don't think he is worth the time of day. But in this respect he is just like any other fan. Not an integral part of every game day- like the "superfan/mascots" of every other team.
He's fine. Easy enough to ignore if you don't like him.
And because of his well-publicized legal issues, the Giants will never "promote" him to unofficial mascot, and he is not in a position to ask. So even if you have the lowest of opinions on him- ironically, his past insulates him from any official affiliation with the team, making him easier to palate as regular fan.
Fireman Ed was a 'Phins fan first. He's a douche.
This is the part I don’t get. What “position” is he in? He’s a big Giants fan. Awesome. I appreciate all Giants fans. But why is he foisted on us like he’s somebody really important?

how is he foisted on us?
In other words, he's an influencer.
In other words, he's an influencer.
He was doing his thing at every single game before he had the followers.
Quite an assumption to make, after the Giants previously felt compelled to publish a letter publicly disavowing any connection to him when the loan sharking story broke

All I meant by “position” is that he’s a fan with a high amount of visibility, and probably gets a ton of messages every day. There’s nothing official about it, but obviously he has enough recognition that we’re talking about him here!
I don’t think he’s be “foisted on us”…who’s the foisterer?

He has a better schtick? The Guy was a Cowboys and Dolphins fan then he switched over to the Jets. At least LPG does charity work and appears to be a nice guy to other fans. Fireman Ed is an asshole who acts like he is superior to everyone else. He "retired" from being a Jets fan just a few years ago claiming he was tired of being harassed in the stands then he conveniently returned when the Jets drafted Sam Darnold thinking that they were on their way to becoming a SB contender.

Respect.
Either do I. I sat directly next to him for DJs first career start against the Bucs. He had probably about 100-150 people come up to ask for a picture throughout the game. He took everyone of them and chatted with everybody that wanted a pic. A Giant employee came up and asked him if he wanted water bottles, because it was hot as fuck and we were right in the sun (I thought I was gonna melt) he had the guy bring about 10-12 water bottles and cold wet towels out to pass out to the people that were sitting next to him and behind him. Yeah I know it doesn't seem like much, but he could have just got the stuff for him and not worried about the people around him. He made sure everyone around him was ok and wasn't gonna suffer a heat stroke. So I can't say anything bad about the guy.
Don't remember that(not dismissing it), but if he did it is because of some of the silly takes posted on this thread alone. Kind of silly busting on a guy for his costumes from a bunch of people sitting behind a keyboard on a chat board. He just takes his fandom a bit further than most here and gets air time for doing it prominently. BFD.
At least he is a Giants fan.
But make no mistake about it, the envy is real, and it’s not because how he looks or anyone wanting to be just like him. They envy the recognition he got. And for some reason they feel they are bigger fans that deserve that recognition. But he did the one thing that most of them most likely don’t, he dressed up and put a spot light on himself for lack of a better term.
Im sure most fans on here would love to do charity events with players and have them come to their houses or meet up for drinks or a game of pool etc. nobody has to like him and are free to trash him, but at the end of the day you’re trashing a fellow Giants fan because he gets attention from society and the players.
I met him at the home opener after XLII. I said “hey you’re the dude from the DVD. And he laughed and said yea that was me. He then said some positive things about the Giants getting ready to win this game and that was it. It wasn’t me me me or anything other than “let’s go GMen” talk. I always appreciated that.
But to each their own.
I’m not some fan of influencers, I don’t even have social media. My point was the guy found a way to become the equivalent of one prior to the internet being a medium to create that type of persona.
