The main difference is when you are a deep defender, your responsibility is to never let anyone behind you hence the phrase if he's even he's leavin. The deep safeties in a cover 2 have to keep everyone in front of them. Same for cover 3. The main difference between a cover 3 and a cover 2 besides the responsibilities of each player is that the MLB is running UNDERNEATH the verical route as opposed to staying over the top.
is Tampa 2 sometimes a 3 deep coverage? Um yeah, seems like semantics.
Is both the traditional Tampa 2 and Cover 3 obsolescent? Yeah pretty much.
I guess there are Tampa 2 coverages that have pattern matching too like what is at this point "traditional" Saban cover 3/Fangio cover 6 nowadays.
Fangio likes to line his corners way off the ball, Cover 2 and Tampa 2 usually give a jam at the line. It's something that irritated me with Graham and Wink to some extent that there wasn't much of an attempt to disrupt the receiver.
... I gave this video about 5 minutes Before recognizing that it was FOS.
Please don't take anything away from this video as science.
Any DC would write this guy off as somebody doing his best to grab the attention of those who don't know any better.
