The only question could have been whether he failed to try to get out of the way and/or leaned into it. I don't think this even remotely comes into play, but you never know what the ump is thinking. Given the player had to take his shirt off, it seems the ump simply said he wasn't hit. If that's the case, what the Hell was he watching?

On the flip side, how does this guy claim to be hit? Is this a case of a guy convincing himself of his own lie? He knows he wasn't hit, so how the Hell does he mouth off and get tossed?

He mouthed off because he knew he looked like a gigantic asshole, and nobody was buying his act or giving him an opportunity to save face. The only thing he could do to even attempt to salvage dignity is double down on his double down and act even more like the victimized party.

I could be wrong but I think the ump thought the ball hit the bat. If the ball hits the bat first and then you then it is a strike.
