According to Steve Popper, makes sense, contract expired, Knicks have a lot of voices and with Rosas gaining more of a role the need for Perry was no longer needed
But Perry deserves credit for getting him here. I didn't see anyone give him credit for that move.
The whole Porzingis situation was a nightmare between his brother, KP not talking to the Knicks, and the looming rape situation. I think Perry did a great job there considering the circumstances at the time.
I was in NOLA this weekend and every local I spoke too is so sick of Zion and would swap Randle for him.
I told them, don't think David Griffin would agree and beyond that he despises the Knicks.
they can keep Zion
Yeah going from Randle who's a horse and shows up every night to Zion who disappears for 4 months with a soft tissue injury is definitely no win. Imagine how that would fly in NY.
Yeah I agree. I guess there's no salary cap when it comes to coaches, but to me that type of $ is reserved for hires like Pat Riley, Chuck Daly, Pops if he ever moved on from SA. Guys that come with the gravitas of multiple rings.
Tim McMahon is reporting that the Knicks are watching the Joel Embid situation very closely, hoping he asks out if things go haywire.
An obvious report, but some confirmation that he might be the target.
What do we think an Embiid trade would look like?
Others will be better at specifics but I think we would be selling the proverbial farm.
Morey would look for the largest package ever. They would probably get control of the next 7 drafts for the Knicks, through picks and swaps. The player package would be interesting, but I'd say anyone but brunson is fair game.
Brunson. Prolly not Randle as i doubt PHI would want to go that route. But Mitch, Obi, Quick, Grimes and a crap ton of firsts. Maybe RJ to. Itll be so much that many will debate its not worth it, and they might be right. You have to essentially gut your team. Its why superstar trades are so hard to get right. No matter how good the star is, your team takes a massive hit in quality.
If any of you thought Embiid might be traded before, that thought should have left your heads once the Sixers hired Nick Nurse. The dude had his choice of jobs. You really think he’d have taken the Sixers job over others, like Phoenix if they were going to trade Embiid? Not a chance

I thought that too, but reportedly, it was money and his relationship with Morey that had him take that job over Phoenix. I'm not sure he got assurances about Embid. That being said, it is highly unlikely they trade him as he does love Philly and they can probably convince him that even if Harden leaves, it is a 1 year rebuild.
If I were Philly and Harden leaves, I'd trade him and rebuild. He is 30 and injury prone and sometimes barely looks like he can run. Trust the Process - Part 2.
Beyond the Knicks, i'm sure there are some great packages out there. Portland comes to mind to start. They have some nice young pieces and picks.

the point of rebuilding is to ultimately get an MVP caliber player. They already have that guy in his prime and he's under contract for 3 more seasons plus a player option.
Unless the situation gets toxic and he forces his way out, I can't see Morey or the owner moving him.
hate what I'm hearing about the new CBA. The NBA has never been able to get this right. They're always reacting to some recent situation and seemingly don't anticipate how the changes will affect teams in the future.
The NFL gets a lot wrong but the one thing the cap and associated rules seem to work fine.
I've linked it below. I don't love ESPN, but I think they have a bunch of good NBA pods (Lowe Post, Hoops Collective).
Feel like the Players association really screwed up by demolishing the middle class. Also, this second tax apron is going to make it impossible for teams above it to operate. It's so punitive. If you're above it you can't sign buyout guys, you can't send out money in trades, you can't take on money in trades, you lose your midlevel exception, AND you can't trade picks further than 7 years out.
but with the hiring of Nurse thats not going to happen this year..
I do thjnk the Knicks will be agressive, for some reason i think KP-Reid will be the starting front court
So you think they are trading Randle for KP?
I dont know, just a gut feeling, dont know how they get there
I actually agree with you, I think KP ends up being the big move, but I think it is in tandem with Randle as a center that is an offensive threat is an upgrade they can make and keep the current nucleus.
I think a Sign N Trade with Fournier, Obi and a pick might get it done. The new Wizards GM wants to blow it up.
An actual offer for Embiid being is kind of important but OK.
I didn't mean that it's not news. It certainly is and thanks for the info. I appreciate all that you share. Just really don't think he'll become available - I never have. Just doesn't seem remotely likely. Not really surprising Knicks made an offer, but even less surprising that they were told to GTFO.
I’d expect an offer out to Naz Reid as soon as free agency starts and to try to engage the Nets in Cam Johnson, but I don’t think any thing happens between the Nets and Knicks
what the market might be for Naz Reid but the max we can offer is the MLE which plenty of other teams have as well. Also, there are likely teams that can offer more mins/opportunity.

They can sign and trade.
Hopefully they make a move this off-season to work on getting a #2
This team has no shot of making it past the 2nd round with the roster constructed the way it is imo.
Randle is not a playoff performer and he will never adapt to being 3rd on the food chain. He plays 0 defense and is not engaged when his shot isn’t going in or isn’t a focal point.
this off-season is the time to swing for some upgrades. This new cba is gonna be a nightmare to make work to add to a contender when your at the 2nd apron and with knicks needing to resign quickley and hart plus obi looming.
Even if they sign 2 of them to decent contracts it’s still gonna put us near that threshold.
Mitch 16 mil
Fournier 18 mil
Randle 28 mil
Brunson 26 mil
Rj 24 mil
ihart 10 mil
Grimes 2.5
Quickley expected atleast 4/80
Hart expected 4/72

I agree and disagree. I think they absolutely could have beaten Miami had Thibs done a better job. With that said, we need to make moves improve this team.
1. They have 4 extra first rounders, which provides cheap young players.
2. The new CBA favors teams keeping their own players. Knicks have a whole bunch of good, young developing players.
3. There will be a lot more legit trades and less signing of superstars, like Warriors signing Durant when they were already a championship team. That won't happen any more
An actual offer for Embiid being is kind of important but OK.
And idea what the actual offer was? I think that'd be interesting to know.
Not sure on players but it was 4 firsts
Thanks for the info! Any noise on KP?
I know ajr is well connected so that’s the info you were looking for, but stumbled upon this interview from yesterday with KP talking about how he regrets the way things played out with the Knicks, comparing NY to a “first love.” Posturing? Lonk - ( New Window )

I think some of it is he actually wants to come back to NY and some of it is he isnt getting the offer he wants from Washington, there was a report towards the end of the season that they were in serious discussions on a new deal and then nthing came of it..
I think its possible the new President wants to blow it up and start fresh, he knows he can get a drsft pick for KP and probably Kuzma in a sign and trade and probably a couple of firsts for Beal
again, huh?
huh?
Was there something factually wrong with that?
Dude you prove with every single post you have no idea whats going on with Knicks...
The whole Porzingis situation was a nightmare between his brother, KP not talking to the Knicks, and the looming rape situation. I think Perry did a great job there considering the circumstances at the time.

Is this new reporting or just parroting the comments that have been made by various talking heads seconds after the Sixers were eliminated?
Everyone knows Rose and Embiid are/were close - but it's extremely unlikely Morey trades the MVP.

Lots of the pundits on pods have been insinuating that it's going to be a crazy offseason with a lot of movement as everyone prepares for the new CBA.
The NFL gets a lot wrong but the one thing the cap and associated rules seem to work fine.
Hard cap. No exceptions. No maxes.

Clips and GSW are going to have to try to make moves this offseason or they're going to be in for some tough times I think.
Hoops Collective talking Knicks... - ( New Window )
The opposite is true. If anything they have been criticized for having too many voices.
It’s hard to judge Perry because he was stuck with Mills above him. But it’s telling he stuck around for this long.

Not sure why or who deleted it but:
Knicks made an offer for Embiid and were told they aren’t trading him for any price this offseason.
Rosas will take Perry’s spot.
