Yesterday, beat reporters had a presser with Daboll and got to ask him a range of things. One line of questioning was about the Giants interest in recently released WR DeAndre Hopkins.
This is how Leonard tweeted about Daboll's response:
@PLeonardNYDN
Darius Slayton to me on DeAndre Hopkins: “I’d say we’re pretty dang good, but I’d say he’s pretty dang good. So it’s kind of one of those ‘more the merrier’ type deals.”
On an intriguing free agent WR that Brian Daboll said the Giants would "look into:" |
All well and good until you actually look at Daboll's quotes in response to the questions.
Q: I’m talking about (wide receiver) DeAndre Hopkins. He’s pretty tall and he’s pretty good. How open would you be to adding a piece like that now and is that something you guys think you would consider?
A: Yeah, no, I’d say like last year, anytime there’s someone that’s available as a free agent, I’d say (general manager) Joe (Schoen) and his staff are going to look into it and research it. We talk about a lot of different players, so regardless of who it is, that’s part of our job to make sure we’re doing our due diligence. |
I won't bold anything in the quote but I will point out some specific wording.
"Like last year"--this is pointing to answers he has given in the past which is basically saying "this is a stock answer"
"regardless of who it is"-This is clearly saying again, my answer here is generic, it applies to all cuts or players available in trades or any other avenue.
Leonard takes a generic, stock answer that is 100% and very clearly intended to say "we look into everyone because that is our job and I'm not going to say we have more or less interest" and made it into the Giants are going to "look into" Hopkins. Notice the quotes he used around "look into". Because Daboll said "look into", that is the only quote that Leonard uses but he takes it out of context to make you believe it was specifically said about Hopkins by framing it as he does.
This is obvious. Leonard does stuff like this all the time. Sometimes less obvious. If anyone trusts him on any reporting or uses him as a source for any story, you are a willful fool. There are beat reporters of various capability on the beat but none of them are as journalistically devoid of morals like Leonard. He doesn't care about the truth.
"Yeah... it is... our job to make sure.. Joe (Schoen) and his staff are going to look into it".

It was from Leonard, I refuse to click on anything he has.
If you interpreted it as "Giants holding specific meetings to look into Hopkins and placing calls to his agent" that is your own reading comprehension issue. Sometimes the reader needs to exert their own logic on what they read.

God...reading comprehension??? He entire point of cherry picking the quote is to mislead.
And you are a numbnuts for defending it.
Would you like to know more? Everything I see in the news reminds me of Starship Trooper nowadays lol

on how ESPN has developed their entire content library around this Method. It was a pretty great analysis. And once you know what to look for, you see it everywhere- all over cable news. But ESPN might be the worst offender. This is probably how Pat was taught to do his job. Deadspin: How ESPN Manufactures a Fake Colin Kaepernick Story - ( New Window )

Not defend Leonard for some of his baser journalism techniques - but it is a good interview

Daboll said they look into everyone. Hopkins is available. If both of those sentences are true (which they are), they will look into Hopkins.

Today I learned he has a podcast.
The dude blocked me on Twitter for some reason, I've never even followed him. His skin must be very thin.

Yes, you're a hero.
Nope, just someone with a different point of view than you. Not sure why that upsets you so much. I disagreed with your observation. I didn't criticize you as a person. You do whatever you need to.

Same person.
Jeremy Schaap was the worst and creating stories out of nothing and it used to piss me off because his father was an actual great reporter IMO
