Dan and Nick dive into a breakdown of the Giants’ roster by ranking the position groups from 1-14 and breaking them down in reverse order. Nick and Dan have a different set of rankings so they discuss the differences in where they view the position groups, how each position ranks relative to the NFL and a lot more.

If you include Barkley, the RB group is near the top.

If you exclude him, they are right at the bottom - at least until Gray plays a bit.

Defensive Line is the one obvious strength - ironic, since it was a one-man show last year.

I personally love our TEs. Obviously, a lot could go wrong there.

At safety, I like the depth. I'm less enamored with McKinney as the top dog than some observers.

CB could emerge as a strength; that's mostly projection though, for Banks, Robinson, Flott, and Hawkins.

I think the WRs will be fun to watch. After David Sills and Kenny Golladay, our standards are pretty low.

Okereke is a huge upgrade. Even with him, the LBs look pretty bad until they prove otherwise.

OL and EDGE? Who knows? We're counting on a lot of players to take big jumps.

Speaking of big jumps, QB is OK with Jones at the level he played in 2022, and could be much better than OK if things fall into place.

I think the strength of the team will ultimately be outside linebacker and wide receiver.

They are the two areas where they have the most athleticism and untapped potential.

Feels like projection, such as Evan Neal struggling last season and both have in the top three. Depth is not great however I do feel like Tyre Phillips isn't bad.

Arrow pointing up is definitely at QB, WR, TE, C, ILB and CB.
Good contribution by Schneier to this podcast. Usually, the podcast

Is an 80% contribution from Falato and 20% contribution by Schneier with Schneier trying to contribute something to the solid discussion from Nick.

This show was more 50/50 because Scheier had a lot relevant comments.

Schneier wasn’t impressed with SB from the middle of the season on. Hello! That coincided with SB’s shoulder injury which obviously impacted his productivity. Opinions on SB are fine, but you alao needto put in some kind of injury disclaimer to be fair
I think

the coaching is one of the biggest strengths.
We’re counting on a lot of 2nd and 3rd year players to step up
BillT : 6/3/2023 10:22 am : link
That worked out for us last year as the talent was better than projected. I’m pretty confident we’ll see that again. Think edge will be a strength as well as the secondary. Confident in Neal. It will be very interesting to watch who and how much the very young Giants progress.
BB'56: After four years of injury disclaimers on Barkley...

...it's no longer a disclaimer, IMO. You can put an injury disclaimer for the 2022 season of Leonard Williams or Xavier McKinney or Daniel Bellinger, or maybe even Adoree Jackson, considering the circumstances of his latest injury.

Barkley? Until he proves otherwise, a banged-up RB is who he is (at least half the time), and the position he plays. That's not his fault; it's just been reality from 2019 on.
...

I don't believe in injury prone-ness unless a player has a documented physiological disposition or a chronic thing.

But position and playing style certainly up the odds of getting hurt.

I think Barkley falls in that group. The odds of him getting through 17 games and performing at a high level seem low.

He said that SB was really playing well until the middle of the season which happened to coincide with his shoulder injury. It’s only fair that you point out that this was a FACTOR as the season moved on, because it was. How much probably can’t be quantified.

The disclaimer was pointed towards his assertion about playing well until the middle of the season. It would have been prudent to at least point this out as a reason or possible reason..
I like Daboll, but

I don't agree with him having AJ return punts, or with giving Barkley 34 carries against Houston(?). I don't think he was the same after that.
100% with you on AJ..
Big Blue '56 : 6/3/2023 12:26 pm : link
As to SB, every now and then RBs are asked to carry a heavy load. This was that time. I would not be thrilled if he AVERAGED 25 carries a game.

christian : 6/3/2023 1:03 pm : link
Barkley's most consistent year was his rookie year, where he averaged 16 carries (vs. 18 in 2022).

Barkley is not a very efficient pass weapon, so I hope he doesn't exceed the ~75 targets he had last year.

The best outcome in my view is Barkley as the 1A running back in a committee, and he gets 300-325 touches on the year. And when the weather turns and/if the Giants make the playoffs he's more fresh.

Barkley should angle for this too financially. The best outcome for him is to extend his productive years, even at a slightly lower AAV.

Feel with guys like Wan'Dale out and they had to use Marcus Johnson, Richie James, and David Sills, there's no threat for end arounds.

Hyatt, Campbell and Robinson can bring that element.

You can make injury excuses, but that is an issue with Barkley. There has been an injury every season but his rookie year.
Counting on a great deal of maturity...
Brown_Hornet : 6/4/2023 8:57 am : link
...looking at the comments, seems like most agree.

- will ultimately be
- feels like projection
- could emerge

But, this season, there should be greater optimism given the growth we saw in 2022 and the faith that most have for how the rookie coaching staff performed.
How good is Okereke in coverage?
Angel Eyes : 6/5/2023 9:28 am : link
I hope that we have less cases of the linebackers looking gormless as a ball soars over their heads and a tight end or running back catches it.
If you look at our roster on paper we are a better team across
Rudy5757 : 6/5/2023 11:30 am : link
the board. The only starter we lost on O is Jon Feliciano and he was a bottom tier player, I believe that we can get similar prodcution from Schmitz or someone else. We added depth at WR and bring back almost all major contributors except James. Remember we actually had Sills start some games. We added a top TE. Health is a factor though as it is with all teams. We also lack quality depth.

On D we imporoved the DL, same pass rushers. Improved the ILBs by a lot. Improved the CB position even if you dont include Banks. S position may be a bit of a downgrade with the loss of Love, while not a great player he player a lot of important roles.

He’s also one of the best rbs, banged up or not.

He was fine down the stretch last year even if he wasn’t as dominant as earlier on.
