NFT: Julius Randle has ankle surgery -

knew he hurt the ankle down the stretch, didn't realize he was getting surgery. Whatever one thinks of him, hoping for a full and quick recovery.

Good...F Reilly and F the Heat. Nice of them to bloat their value right before free agency!

CJ McCollum expects Damian Lillard to exit Portland

“If I was a betting man, I would say this is the last that we've seen of him [in Portland].”👀

That'd be weird to me...

Even if they kept Bridges in that trade, that team wouldn't be much better than Portland.

I could see it, sign and trade cam johnson in the deal, dinwiddie and claxton and a bunch of picks?

He flat out mentioned Miami/Brooklyn as his 2 ideal landing spots, Portland will appease him as teams do with long-time franchise players in the NBA. Whether they will be much better than Portland or not is really besides the point. It's a matter of where he wants to be and which of those teams have assets. I'd say #1 BK #2 Boston #3 Miami (not because they have any real assets but because Riley always seems to figure these things out). "Riley is very reluctant to include Jovic in any Lillard deal..." lol

Oh, I'm not doubting what you said or whatever. I'm just saying it's a weird pull for a guy who's been reluctant to ask for a trade, said all that stuff about loyalty etc etc. And then he wants to get traded to a team who has a lateral amount of talent as the place he's always insisted he didn't want to leave? Just seems weird to me.

but after seeing that brick fest in the postseason, I’ve come around - assuming it’s a reasonable trade package going to CHI (RJ and a couple of firsts). He played 77 games last year too - same as Ironman Julius.

I want Lavine too. I have always loved big shooting guards like that. We really need that kind of shooter here, aware he comes with risk.

To me this is big news, not really his choices but more that Lilliard is actually mentioning and open to a trade. I would think this means he will in fact be traded.

It's really the smartest thing for Portland to do. If they were one player away, leveraging that #3 pick to get Lillard over the hump would be the way to go, but that team isn't really close. Probably needs a gut job.

IIRC he didn't like the trade for us at the deadline. Now he has him ranked above quite a few really good players.

when the trade happened-

"New York: I don’t know why the Knicks would give up a first-round pick for Josh Hart, who has the yips from the perimeter and may be a free agent after the season if he opts out of his $12.9 million deal. The Knicks made themselves marginally better this season, but their first-round pick was likely to be more helpful than this on draft night, either to acquire a young player or to use in a trade.

Of course, the draft pick also would have helped by adding another inexpensive salary instead of whatever Hart will make; the Knicks are pushing the luxury tax next year, and that could constrain other options (such as their midlevel and biannual exceptions)."

And now-

6. Josh Hart, SG, 28, New York (player option): $28,607,658

Hart was outstanding after his trade to New York and had a really good stretch in the second half of 2021-22 in the brief window between his trade to Portland and the Blazers pivoting to abject tanking.

Nonetheless, even the most homerific Knicks fan would probably admit that $28.6 million feels like a lofty valuation for Hart. His career shooting (35.0 percent from 3 on low volume), age (28) and size (6-foot-5 if you pull on his toes) all weigh against paying him as a top-dozen shooting guard like this valuation implies.

That said, New York won big by bringing him in from Portland for the cost of a late first. Hart surely will opt out of his below-market contract, but one presumes he’ll be back in New York on a multi-year deal that pays him like a plus wing starter (in the $20 million range) for the next three or four years.

what assets do they land Dame? lol

According to Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney, an Eastern Conference executive believes that the team wants to free up its payroll and see if there is a way to add Lillard to the roster.

“There is a lot that can happen there,” the executive said. “The Suns need depth all over that roster. They want to free up their payroll. They want to see if there is a way to bring in Dame. They want to see what they can do with a Deandre Ayton deal. There is a lot on the table. And the [Los Angeles] Lakers need to know where they are going with [D’Angelo] Russell. They’re not just letting him walk. They traded a pick for him. And who knows if they could get Chris to sign a vet minimum deal or what?”

If I'm Portland, I'm moving Dame & going all in on a rebuild. What's the end game retooling the roster around a soon to be 33 YOA Dame? A 6th seed or so in the West?
Portland if they were smart coukd rebuild quickly
nygiants16 : 6/8/2023 7:41 pm : link
draft Scoot, you could have Scoot, Simons and Sharpe..

Trade Dame for young players and draft picks..

Trade Nurkic for what you can get, maybe a young player..

Try and sign and trade Grant

If you're the Knicks. However unlike seemingly the past few decades there is no elite team or teams who are the odds on favorite to win it all. So with the one star in Brunson in place, you feel like temptation is there to really go for it because it's not as hard to get into the mix of teams that can win it all.
