Spurred on by the thread the other day on '86 Giants, I rewatched Broncos-Giants Super Bowl XXI. And as I remember watching previously, Banks was a fucking beast. If not Simms-and Phil obviously deserved it-Carl gets SB MVP.
It got me thinking on our other Super Bowl wins who was runner up MVP...
XXV: Gotta go Hoss.
XLII: Tuck.
XLVI: Tuck, again.
What say you?
XLII: The correct answer would probably be Eli since Tuck should have been the actual MVP but otherwise no issues there although Tyree should be an honorable mention.
XLVI: Manningham. IDC if he did nothing else that catch was enough.
Anderson took 7 of the 10 votes for his MVP. Hostetler, Meggett and Thurman Thomas of Buffalo received 1 each.
Not so much a fun fact as an unfunny joke.
As great as Simms was in XXI, the offensive line deserves a nod. By the end of the third quarter, Denver was completely beaten. Credit to George Martin too, for the biggest defensive play.
Quote:
Phil McConkey was originally going to be the XXI MVP, but the Disney execs saw him carrying a gun around the field after the game and decided to give it to Simms instead.

Which defensive play? Blanking. Regular season George Martin or SB?
That holding call on Booth on Wilfork(who admitted to taking a dive) stopped a potential scoring drive that could have resulted in a rather convincing win, albeit you never know about a Brady driven team..Iirc, that 9-0 lead could have easily been 16-0, instead of being taken out of FG range and resulting in a 10-9 Pats’ halftime lead
The sweating it out till the end made it more enjoyable.....

I would have preferred a rout…😎
