No one here will give Boone any credit, but he's doing a damn good job through a ton of injuries. Good to see the Kid Volpe get a couple of knocks including a huge HR in the 9th.

Yeah we don't need Volpe to be an All Star or anything, but we also need him not to hit .190.
has been sore/tired for a while and he tried to fight through it - causing the late inning issues.
If all Judge did was "stub" his toe after running into that fence, he will be lucky. I was waiting for the bruised rubs/shoulder report. Smart to have given him the day off so that he gets two days off.

Let’s hope it was just a “stub” but he is having tests done today to make sure it isn’t broken. I am petrified of those test results because this team seemingly never catches a break with injuries. They downplay injuries initially and the we don’t see the player for two months or more. Nestor is concerning as well but losing Judge long term would sink the season. Keep our fingers crossed!

Even with last night's homer, it might be time to let him go back to triple A to work some things out. The league has figured him out - high fastballs that he can't catch up to and sliders away that he can't reach because he bails with his left hip on every swing. Plus he's had some struggles in the field the last month and has played more games than any other Yankee. With Peraza hitting .324 with 10 home runs and 6 steals in 111 at bats and he's generally considered the better SS, it's a good time.
And man, what's happened to LeMahieu? 26 percent K rate for a guy who 3 or 4 years ago was one of the hardest to strike out. He used to live going to right field and now they are pitching him away and he can't make contact. Swing looks really slow.

DJ has fallen off the proverbial cliff and it’s unfortunate. They are going to have to come to grips with the fact that they may not be able to continue to run him out there every single day.
And I honestly think Volpe is better served as the long term 2nd baseman with Peraza at SS. Peraza is simply a much better defender and I think 2B is the perfect place for Volpe. Problem is what to do with Gleyber? Can he eventually be the 3rd baseman?

Every hitter has a vulnerability. Torres chase high fast balls too. That is his Achilles heel..Judge chases sliders down and away too.
I think if the Yankees thought time at SWB would help, they would swap he and Peraza.
Agree on DJLM - kind of concerning. Bat speed lost?

Thankfully, taking Cole out with 80 pitches didn't cost them.

Cole was cramping, that’s why he was taken out. Can’t blame Boone for that
Its not like he's over-matched at this level. He almost has double figure HR's. I agree like the the announcers are harping on, he's not recognizing the down and away stuff well enough at all but that's probably more fixable at the major league level. His defense has been very good. Perazza may be better but its not a whole other level better. If it gets really bad and he slips like into the .170's I could see farming him out but I'd definitely take a wait and see approach.

Come on. You're an educated fan that watches all the games. You know there's no way in hell Boone yanks Cole at 80 pitches like that when he was rolling along if there isn't physical reason.
We don’t seem to want to make the tough decisions, which
maybe a good thing since the few we’ve made included signing Hicks and Sevy to long term deals. We need to allocate our resources better going forward. Everyone can see the best combo for the future is Peraza at SS and Volpe at 2B. Neither profiles at 3B and Torres is just not a winning player no matter how you rationalize his goofs. I am not interested in trying him at 3B either, which won’t happen because of the glut at that position.
They can trade Torres, bring up Peraza and move Volpe to 2B. Or they can demote Volpe and bring him back as a 2B later. I prefer the former.
Or we do what the Yanks will likely do, nothing. We will lose Torres in a couple of years for nothing. Peraza will suffer prospect fatigue and flame out. Volpe will provide adequate but unspectacular defense for the rest of his career at SS and constantly be compared to the more tooled up Henderson, Franco, and Mayer in the division.
Or trade Peraza for an OF if they are committed to Torres and Volpe which they probably are.
Obviously overdramatic, but we need to save some money wherever we can and Torres is the obvious choice. This way you don’t have a glut in the INF and have Judge and the 7 dwarfs in the OF.
Donaldson is gone after this season and DJ is clearly on the decline and is better suited as a utility player with his versatility. How the hell do you look at 3rd base and see a “glut” at the position? They aren’t going to have a legitimate option there next season, lol
BTW, I don't know if any of you are college baseball fans
Not saying he’s great at this point, but we aren’t paying someone 15M to be a super utility guy.
Cabrera just doesn’t hit enough. Sweeney appears to be another 1st round bust. We actually don’t have any long term solutions at 3B. So I guess we resort to our usual tactics, play people out of position?

Peraza, IKF, Cabrera and even Torres are are legit options at 3rd base. Torres would make the most sense with his power over the others.
RE: BTW, I don't know if any of you are college baseball fans
But Wake Forest won their regional this past weekend with scores of 12-0. 21-6, and 15-1. Yeesh.
I know I'm biased, and they did get knocked out yesterday by George Mason(like it mattered with no pitching available playing Wake last night would be like being led into the roman coliseum for slaughter by the lions) but Maryland got totally fucked getting stuck in that region. There's literally no difference between being seeded 2 or 3 in a region other B1G teams Indiana and Iowa who MD beat like a drum all regular season AND in winning the B1G tournament got way better draws of Indiana St., Kentucky. Just abominable. Wake is an absolute wagon. They had the best ERA in the country by over a run and a top 5 lineup.

Did you read Jim in Hoboken’s post? I was replying to his post claiming Torres can’t be moved to 3rd because there’s a glut there. I’m in agreement with you that Torres is an option which I stated in my earlier post. But there is zero percent chance the Yankees look at Cabrera or IKF as legit everyday 3rd basemen. None. Peraza will likely play SS and Colpe moves to 2nd if I had to guess. There is no “glut” at 3rd base blocking Torres next season.

Exactly. There are plenty of alternatives. However, IKF was a gold glove 3rd baseman. If you are adhering to corner IF need to be power hitters - ok I see your point. Why I mentioned Torres there - he has more pop than the rest.
IKF is doing a VG job as super utility. So I doubt he becomes the everyday 3B - probably falls to DJLM or Torres unless they go outside.
As expected, Yankees are non-competitive tonight without Judge.
Sweet!
Yeah we don't need Volpe to be an All Star or anything, but we also need him not to hit .190.
Need to get healthy come playoff time for sure.
Volpe certainly appears to be a player. He will improve as time goes on. He is a baby

No broken toe, but bruised and some ligament damage..
