Athletic assessment of Hutchinson vs Thibodeaux vs Walker

gary_from_chester : 6/5/2023 6:04 pm
Decent article (link below if I did it right) assessing 2022 performance and prospects for these three early first round edge defender picks. Bottom line, the writer likes Thibodeaux best of the three; close call between him and Hutchinson.

Big year coming for Thibs, think he can be a dangerous playmaker and a double digit sack guy. Excited to see year two for this guy.
Walker vs Hutchinson vs Thibodeaux - ( New Window )
I always got a kick out of the fact that the Cowboys

Felt Thibs and Neal were 1st and 2nd best players in draft.

Their development in year 2 is big!!!

I read that earlier. The writer didn't seem too high on Walker.
How did Walker do last year?
Jerz44 : 6/5/2023 7:25 pm : link
I didn’t watch him much.

Looking more like Sauce Gardner was the best player in the draft.
One of my takeaways from that article is...

Hutchinson had a lot more pass rush attempts than Kayvon or Walker. In fact of the three, Kayvon had the least attempts (due to his injury) yet he tied with Hutchinson for number of knockdowns. And his pressure rate was the highest of the three.

I really like Hutchinson and Walker, not taking anything away from those guys. But KT showed up really well and if you read or listen to how he talks about his play last year and what he intends to improve both physically and mentally you just know he's going to be a great player.

I think all three are going to be outstanding, but I agree that KT has potentially higher upside and is the most likely to maximize that. And KT knows it too. Go back and review his last few interviews to see what I mean. I'm really excited to watch his career.

Not paying for the athletic and idc about Walker or Hutch

Can anyone post the evaluation of Thibodeaux?
Hutch looks like the best bet for consistency

since the kid will get 100% out of what talent he's got. His motor is incredible.

I thought the article was fair. The most room for growth is with KT. Whether he gets it, is to be seen.
Isn't Walker a DT not a true

Edge?
Kayvon seems the most dynamic of the three
Nephilim : 6/6/2023 9:02 am : link
And will (hopefully) end up the best. Hutchinson is a solid performer, will always do good but never be great. You can certainly do worse than him. He'll be a consistent 8-9 sack a year guy but never a superstar.

Walker I have no idea about

Wouldn't undersell Hutchinson, he had some major splash plays including three picks at DE - Giants were on the bad side of one of them. The length, athleticism and awareness to make some of those interceptions is awesome.

The Athletic isn't even that expensive - and you are missing some excellent content, and not just on the Giants.

It generally takes trench guys longer to develop
I've rewatched a few games this past month
Jim in Forest Hills : 6/6/2023 1:37 pm : link
and this will sound like fanboying but KT was held a ton. I saw 2 sacks in 2 games if he wasn't outright held. like both hands were up.
Not only was Thibs held a lot - as Jim notes
gersh : 6/6/2023 2:21 pm : link
You could see him win his battles often and just not quite get there.
IMO, the confidence in Neal this year is warranted but not obvious
The confidence in Thibs is obvious
If this defense says healthy - it can be dominant
gersh : 6/6/2023 4:03 pm : link
1- Thibs continued development should see him as an elite pass rusher very soon.
2- If Ojulari can just stay on the field - he has shown to be a very productive pass rusher
3- A healthy Leo paired with the beast Dex - should give those 2 ERs plenty of opportunities to win their match-ups
4- A’Shawn and Nunes-Roches should give Leo and Dex the tests they need to dominate as well as greatly improve the run defense.
5- McKinney being back will allow Wink to run the plays/blitzes he prefers
6- add to McKinney - adoree and now Banks as reasons why Wink can run the D he wants
7- add Okereke to McKinney and Adoreee and Banks as reasons why Wink can unleash his creativity

This defense has serious potential if it stays healthy and our rookie #1 CB is the answer as a rookie. We truly need a guy like Thibs to be a top 3 pass rushing beast, a guy you must look out for every snap. That helps the whole defense.

I forget the details but there was discussion on BBI during last season to the effect that the particular move that KT relies on most, by NFL rule, essentially permits an OL to hold. Anyone remember more about this?
