I'm in Clifton, and was just out in the yard with the dogs and as nearby as two houses down the haze was as thick as a sheer curtain, with a strong scent of charred wood. Even looking out the front windows now, I can't tell if it's about to pour outside, or if it's just the air - there's a washed-out yellowish tint to everything.
of Baltimore. The county issued a code red, which means the air is unhealthy for everyone. We just had a brief sun shower, but it only lasted a few minutes. I doubt it was enough to wash much of the bad air away.
hazy and smells like everyone is cooking shitty brownies. But we just had our parents vs kids soccer game and had a blast with the threat of rain the entire time so it’s all good.
In the twin tiers and saw at least a dozen people taking pictures of the faint orange sun. Mountains are covered in haze and it's about 20 degrees cooler outside than it should be.
I was outside without a mask for an hour or two today running errands. Just got back home and I now have a headache and I'm sneezing. The haze is so thick and the smell is so pungent. It's like breathing through a chimney.
Terrible smell. My car has a thin layer of soot. Even the dog doesn’t want to go outside. The sun is a bizarre bright red because of the “filter” from the smoke.
... says it "smells like Afghanistan." Some of you vets might concur, considering the hazardous burn pits.
I don't typically have any respiratory issues. No asthma, nothing like it. But I woke up congested today, and even indoors at work, the need to consistently clear my throat.
It's also quite chilly today in the Binghamton area. Can definitely see a model of how the ice age worked.
SCIENCE, bitches!
I was going to go play golf as the weather is perfect
Outside last night I could detect a whiff of what smelled like a campfire. Today in DC, my school has canceled all outdoor activities, including recess. That really sucks, because when I have the older kids at the end of the day, extra recess at the end of class is a really a nice incentive.
It smelled like campfire and burning rubber this morning. Thick haze. All outdoor school activities including recess are canceled. Pretty gross. #thankscanada
I have no idea about Canada but in CA there is very ineffective forest management. When hiking in the mountains, I have seen numerous incidents of trees growing up into power lines in very severe fashion.
They also only clear cut about 15 feet on either side on do not do it nearly often enough. It's gotta be 50 feet and it has to be maintained.
tap water right now? Wouldn't the soot and all the chemicals settle in the Reservoir and the water?
OMG, Is this a real question?
Give him a break. Anak, the water is fine. Even if the pollutants got into the billions of gallons of water you're drinking it not breathing it. You're all good.
Just north of Middletown, the skies are a solid light gray. As you look off into the distance it looks like a lifting fog. Supposed to get worse in the next couple of days and my daughter gradutaes Saturday. It's an outdoor ceremny, but we'll see about that.
The AQI's being seen in the New York area now are worse than the fires of 2018 and 2020 in California. During the fires of 2020 we were usually in the high 100's occasionally low 200's and it was the middle of COVID so we were all wearing masks anyway. I hope everybody is taking this seriously.
Hopefully it continues to improve. I thought it seemed better yesterday morning only to have the afternoon get even worse than it had been on Tuesday.
Where I am in CT along the water it’s held up being better. The smell came back a little more but Atleast the quality is back under 200 after being over 300 yesterday. Last night of soccer so I’m hoping it continues to improve.
As I type this the sun just popped out which I couldn’t see at all yesterday despite no clouds.
(about 25 mi north/west of Manhattan), my anecdotal evidence is that it looks massively better than yesterday. I don't know the readings, but it all "looks" normal and is much less noticeable being outside.
They made a call last night to have our schools on a "minimal" (half) day, which they did not change on the fly, but as yet they have not cancelled our little league games tonight.
Yesterday my eyes were getting itchy and slight burning even inside my house. No such problems today.
So, highly unscientific but today leaps and bounds better than yesterday.

Mrs. Dunk works in Wayne (in Packanack) and she said the same thing. It looks like the AQI is about half what it was yesterday around the same time, so it's way better than yesterday (but still not good).
Is much less orange than it was at the same time yesterday. I guess that’s great but unless there’s severe rain, isn’t this going to persist all summer? Aside from a few days reprieve due to a change in wind currents.

This is probably due to my extreme ignorance but I have been asking the same question, I don't know how this ends. Does the wind blow it away, do we need rain etc?
Very hazy, strong smoke smell, like burnt my eyes earlier too.
We are in Mahwah too and wife said the same thing. I started smoking meats recently and she thought i lit the house on fire
There are fires in PA and some in NJ as well
Canadia fires or something 🤣🤪 - ( New Window )
I live near the water and it is noticeable but nothing debilitating.
I blame the Eagles and the Jets for all this, and possibly Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder.

I blame them for all of society's ills
OUCH!
Monmouth County checking in here. Yup pretty bad here too.
A couple days ago the GSP was closed by me. I think it was exits 38-63.
Normal for my town is around 10.
Like a dystopian movie
It shifted a little bit, south jersey is really bad right now but by this afternoon its going to shift back up
I don't understand this. Is this supposed to be some kind of gotcha?
My home zip code we are are at 171 Nowcast AQI. I've read anything over 150 is considered unhealthy for the general population.

We are at a 190 right now.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
It is bad here in Hanover. The air is brown also.

Never in this neck of the woods.
Pfft I was wondering if it was actually completely overcast, or this is all the smoke. Seems like its all smoke.
Any idea when this Canadian wildfire going to let up?

205 here in Oakland, NJ
You can hardly breathe out here without choking and it's only 170 AQI here and it's 235 in Manhattan.

That site has my zip at 460 right now. I know it's especially bad here in the Finger Lakes, but that can't be right, can it?
The small particles can ignite an allergic reaction. Quite common actually.
Hope this isn’t a glimpse into our future.

Out of an orange colored sky
Hey brother, another local resident Giants fan. Nice. We gotta catch a game at Aroogas or Parkside some time.
OMG, Is this a real question?

While smoking 5 packs of Marlboro too right?
