NFT: Recs for a new Kitchen oven/range?

ATL_Giants : 6/7/2023 9:19 am
GE Profile range shit the bed. (I've had terrible longevity on GE appliances).

But I have no idea what a quality brand name is for an oven/range. All the rankings online looked like paid advertisements to me.

Can anyone share great experiences with their kitchen oven/range?

I'd like to keep it below $2K.

Thanks!
Electric or gas?

We're going induction in our remodel. Samsung has a decent unit under 2K but we might go separate cooktop and wall oven
I went with a Bosch induction

About two years ago and love it. Takes some getting used to and you probably need to buy new pots and pans. Nothing beats gas from a culinary standpoint, but of the alternatives, induction is great. You can heat up very quickly and can be very precise on your temp control.
We have a Bosch with an electric oven

and gas stove, and it does have an induction cycle. It’s 15 years old and still works great.
I would

Suggest the oven have an air fryer feature. Many now have that and saved counter space
GE sucks…

I’ve replaced all of our major appliances with GE profile over the past 5 years. The dishwasher won’t drain or dry properly after 3 years, so I’m replacing the drain pump. I’ve also had ice maker issues with my fridge.

Luckily the range and microwave are still going and they were the first items replaced.
Gas...

thanks guys.

Sounds like Bosch might be a good choice.
Maybe Whirlpool?

I mean Samsung makes TV's right?
I thought KitchenAid is an economy brand (I could be wrong).
I’d stay away from Samsung appliances

They have a very small repair network.
GE is all Chinese crap now. Avoid it at all costs.

Most of the others aren't much better, but they are a bit better.

And overall performance of electric stoves simply does not equal gas, but the electrics are a LOT easier to keep clean and offer some other advantages including safety.

We've been through a full kitchen remodel twenty years ago and have already replaced most of those appliances once due to significant failures. There isn't much real difference between Frigidaire, Whirlpool, Kenmore (Sears house brand) and some of the other traditional names. Do some deep comparison shopping and you'll see this.

The Korean stuff (Samsung, etc.) isn't really completely up to par either. It's just a little different, not necessarily better.

And remember, the more whistles and bells you get, the sooner you are going to have trouble.
Bosch appliances are manufactured in the US

Honest question: is this just the convection option rebranded?

Because when I tried out a countertop air fryer a year or two ago, I realized that it was basically just the same function as my old range when set on convection, so returned it.
Hopefully you are cooking with gas...

I recommend an oven that has convection and a stove top where the grates are continuous across the entire surface. That way, you can position pots/pans off center from the flame if needed.

No sense in recommending a brand or model.

Every air fryer cooks via convection fan, yes. That said, countertop models are generally more effective because their small size results in more air volume across the food. Thus better crisping.

*Some* Full size ovens that have an air fry feature are more effective at crisping than just a standard convection oven. Better airflow and higher velocity can provide better crisping, and some models actually do this. Others it’s just marketing BS.
