I have to buy a new suit. My daughter is getting married next March. She went thru my closet and said, "Dad, none of these will do."
Since I haven't worn an actual suit in 20 years, I have to agree with her.
I need a light-weight material -- Destination Wedding in the tropics. After I get through paying for this shindig, I'll have about $300 to spend on a suit that I'll probably wear only this one time.
After my internet search, Men's Wearhouse and Joe Banks appear to have a good price point.....and their stores are nearby. But now I'm getting pop-up ads for every suit hawker on the planet.
I have a Jos A Banks suit coat in my closet, it seems to have held up pretty well over the years.
What do you know, my Brothers ??
I have found their suits do look good initially, but they just don't last long. Quality is no bueno.
Brooks Brothers is my go-to, but less and less do I ever have to wear a suit. Weddings and funerals is basically it at this point. Brooks Brothers would be much more expensive.
I looked into rentals and they are almost as much as MW, and Heaven help you if you bring it back with any kind of stains on it.
How 'bout Nordstroms and keep the tags on it ?? Ha-Ha !
!
I looked into renting last year for my daughter’s wedding. I ended up buying for close to what it would have cost me to rent.

Actually, if you have a Nordstrom Rack near you they have very friendly prices on good quality suits. But it’s luck of the draw in whether they have your size in a style you like. No luck for me.
I ended up getting a Lauren suit at Macys for around $200 last year. As often as I’ll wear it, it’ll hold up well for many years.
There is a Nordy's Rack, a Joe Banks, and a MW over in Mt Pleasant. We may take a ride over there and hit all three. My size is about a 44 Regular, but I need to try it on for sure.
Is a wool suit a definite no-no for these tropical climates ??

I’m not an expert in these things, but wool is a natural fiber that breathes well and they make what’s referred to as tropical weight wool suits. I bought a wool suit for an outdoor June wedding in Virginia and was comfortable (though it wasn’t a steaning hot day). Look at what typical temps are in March where the wedding is,
I dont plan on using it much, and i dindt want to spend $500.
after a few years of that nonsense, i got smart (or stupid, depending on the day), started working for myself... now, most days, like today, i wear gym shorts and a long sleeve giants t shit. and i make way more money. go figure.
wouldnt go back to that shit on the daily for any amount of money.
thats an extreme, but i do notice the profession has really relaxed in dress over the past 4-5 years. probably like most other things a function of covid when we realized (or gained a willingness to say out loud) that many things we do are stupid or pointless. so lets just fuckin stop.
good luck and congrats to you and your daughter.

Brooks Bros are great suits for a white collar wardrobe because of their durability. For a 1 or 2 time go with Mens wearhouse or Jos A banks.
I usually go suit supply but it seems that me wearing a suit daily ended on 3/14/2020.
Great Products and great service.

So yeah, I say buy 3 or 4 stock suits from Amazon, pick the one that fits, return the rest, and maybe get it tailored one day.

Second the Brooks Brothers, expensive but last a lifetime
Also JAB is poor quality, IMO. Glued seams, fake buttonholes on the cuffs, VERY thin wool fabric. They are OK if you need a cheap suit to wear to work a few times a year, not for a special event.
But if she wants you to wear a traditional suit, I agree with some of the others. Don't cheap out on it. Maybe even bring her along with you to try in suits and make a day of it.
They even allow the rentals to be tailored.
