Notes:
-The Mets are currently a game below .500 team now with a record of 30-31.
-Two of the three kids are back in the lineup today: Alvarez (at Catcher batting 9th) and Baty (at the hot corner batting 5th).
-Vogelbach is DHing in place of Vientos again against the righty and is batting 7th.
-The Mets' 4-man bench today is Narvaez, Vientos, Escobar, & Pham.
if vientos sits after a game tying homer, and a key extra innings rbi, and several deep fly balls with crazy exit velo, why can't vogelbach sit after 1 extra base hit and 1 rbi?
as if vogelbakkk needed it, buck has put his thumb on the scales for the last month. if he doesn't reward buck with a big game tonight Eppler needs to just DFA him and be done with it. feels like we need a 'you traded pena' intervention here.

Enjoy :-)
if they sign shohei and get back something decent no harm no foul. but they deserve to look stupid because their handling of vientos makes the holderman trade look smart.

Ella De La Cruz just hit his first HR. 460 feet. 115 off the bat.
Has to be frustrating to an athlete to lose your talent, especially as young as he did.
Syndergaard, Harvey, deGrom all basically out of baseball or close to it.
Matz a JAG with ~ a 5 FIP and a 1.7 WHIP.
Wheeler outlasts them all.
I honestly don't know. Keith said it wasn't intentional, but it's still just an opinion. My first reaction was that it was payback for yesterday, but Morton's reaction seemed to be genuine that it was an accident. He was pitching him up and in though, so that part wasn't an accident.
Pete Alonso hit by pitch on wrist vs the Braves, leaves the game in the first inning | SNY - ( New Window )

or was it completely coincidental after last night? Piece of shit Braves

Don't believe there was intent there. Pretty dumb to throw at a guy for a little chirping when your team got the last laugh anyway.
Thank God. Let's see how he is tomorrow. I hope it doesn't swell up.
Howya doin Dennis? Long time no see!
How about you? How are you feeling? Better than last summer? You were really not feeling well last summer, I hope you're doing better now?
Dennis
Volgie has to be the odd man out

Marte gets on. Vogel hits into a DP.
And I’m sure he’ll make it a point to emphasize the Acuna and Harris catches as THE turning points.
No one thought they were going to win tonight, no one! And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Verlander pitches well tomorrow and loses 2 - 1.
I know it’s early but it’s hard to imagine much changing, and let’s face it, they’re just not getting by the Braves with this squad.
They won’t throw all the kids out there but I’m probably not alone in thinking I’d rather see them go down with youth as opposed to seeing them trot out the useless, washed up vets.
Was this a joke?
It's not hard... play the most talented players. If struggling, give them a day and then put them back in and let them ride it out. Baseball is a game of ups and downs and the most talented guys WILL return to their mean.
That means..
Play Alvarez 5 days a week
Play Baty and Vientos 6 days a weak
No more of this platooning crap.
Let the talent ride.

But playing a struggling vet like Vogey should be expected? Not sure what he's trying to say here - Michael Harris was ROY last year and is valuable in the field and on the basepaths. Vogey is a one trick poney who is below league average in the only strength of his game. Harris has proven more in one season than Vogey has in his career.
A lot of managers must be shaking their head at Buck right now

yes it was a joke, i posted it as harris was rounding the bases.
This...
And trade Meager Max at the deadline.
He would not be. The plan this year was for Narvaez and Nido to handle catching duties. Thank God for the Narvaez injury in early April (twisted but true) because if it weren't for that then Alvy would still be in Syracuse.
+1

Vientos is mine boggling, and Alvarez. I can see if they had good options playing over them. Does anyone think Alvarez would even be up with the Mets if not for injuries?

if nido and narvaez were scuffling in the same way marte, canha, vogelbach have been most of the year there is zero reason to believe the mets would have been any more aggressive to promote alvarez than they have been with mauricio despite his otherworldly production. vientos and baty are 23 years old and they werent so eager to promote either of them.
nido was the first veteran they were willing to DFA for a kid and it was primarily because the kid had already established himself and nido's numbers were worse than a pitchers. and even then a week before his return there were whispers alvarez was going to go back down.
eppler and buck have been very bad at integrating kids. everyone always hates sandy when he's here but so far we've seen 4 different gms follow him and all were worse. and it's actually 6 if you count porter and the 3-headed gm at once. we can kill him about a lot of things (including the fact that he endorsed 2 of them with zack scott and eppler) but from harvey/wheeler through syndergaard/conforto/nimmo/rosario he was pretty good about not holding kids back once they appeared ready.
david stearns contract is getting bigger every day. sitting out the year was a wise move for his future generations.
Would Cohen clean house first before giving Stearns carte blanche or would he let Eppler hang on since he has a relationship with Stearns and Ohtani? I'd imagine Buck would be gone in this scenario, right or no? What do you think?
I would rather let the kid take his lumps and grow because of the upside he has long term.
Alvarez should be in the lineup every day. Piazza caught 154 games his rookie year so don't say he needs the rest.
Same with Baty he is on par with ESCO in every way or better the trash they have playing is not the future.

if stearns comes in i think he's going to be in charge but eppler stays. they are friends and eppler's biggest strength (signing big time free agents) is the biggest gap for stearns since he never got that chance in milwaukee. anyone who wants to take a run at shohei this offseason should want eppler on their team.
if they miss playoffs i think it's possible they move on from buck, especially if he and eppler havent been on the same page this year. i think then stearns comes in and he's the tiebreaker one way or the other, and based on buck's performance this year that probably doesnt go his way. especially if there's a good alternative out there.
i agree with you on bucks odds. i think it's 50-50 they make playoffs and would probably still bet they do it.
for all we talk about atlanta's run last year, philly was 49-46 on july 24th and coming off a 3 game sweep by the cubs at home. their defense and bp had been god awful. then they ran off like 15 wins in 18 games or something like that and then obviously got hot at the right time at the end. most teams have some kind of winning streak at some point at this team hasn't done that. it's been 1 step forward 1 step back.
for philly to get on track they had to sort of reinvent their team midseason. they fired a manager, added in the bp and on d, made some good moves. buck may not need to be fired if he can lead the change, but so far he's been a bystander unable to help get this team heading in the right direction when things tailspin. he stubbornly sticks with certain vets and in-game has some really bizarre stretches where he lacks urgency.
It'd be a dream scenario if Craig Counsell was to be the manager of the NYM next season. What about his contract situation in Milwaukee now Dan? Is this his last season there or will the Mets have to compensate the Brewers and their prick of an owner if they want to secure his services next season?

were let go and Stearns brought in... near 100% lock the next manager would be Craig Counsell. He's considered one of the best minds in all of baseball, successful with the Brewers and of course hired by Stearns. I'd guess less than 50% chance Buck would be fired, but I'd bet good money *if* he were and Stearns came on, that Counsell would be managing the Mets next season (assuming he doesn't extend before the Mets have a chance to speak to him).

Counsell’s contract expires after the season and he said he wants to wait until after the season before making any long-term decisions.
Fixed it.
If the Mets sign Ohtani this coming off-season though, then one of Vientos or Mauricio would have to go in a trade for some pitching. My friend and I were talking about this last week.
Before the season he was regarded as the Mets top RP prospect. Doesn't throw particularly hard (tops off low 90's) but has a good slider. Too many walks so far this season but he should (at the very least) get a look with the Mets at some point. Pretty good feature article here (linked)

Close to zero trade value, likely DFA'ed if/when they move on.
I was looking specifically for Peterson. I know he had had a good AAA start where it seemed like something might have "clicked." Does anyone know if he was able to follow that up with another good start?

The only question at this point is when? Who even wants him at this point in a trade?

Damn. At that point, who comes up? Mauricio? I mean it should be him, but do we trust Buck to play these kids at this point?
Speaking of injuries Stanley Consuegra got injured but haven't seen what it is.

im not sure you have to trade either of them.
if you let canha go and vientos can play 3b some, he can be sort of a super sub with baty playing some in LF. Marte and McNeil are both guys who can use regular days off to stay healthy (the bigger question is how many regular days in Marte can handle going forward, but thats another story).
if either can bring you back something you need more, like an ace, of course you consider it but i dont think you need to force the issue if it's not there.
first they need to figure out which of the 4 are the ones they definitely want to keep, and you can only figure that out by playing them at the MLB level.
and the one they wasted the least time on ended up being the best of the 4 by far (jdd), which should be a humbling lesson to them (but apparently wasnt).
I think that is why you get this constant changing horses midstream and ridiculous pronouncements followed by even more ridiculous reversals.
And as anyone who has ever worked in an overbloated company or institution knows, you generally need an outside guy to come in and make the tough hiring and firing decisions.

Thanks! That's really cool!
My vague recollection is that he was an above-average pitcher, but really nothing too exceptional. He was the ace of our staff, but those teams didn't amount to very much. Sounds like his trajectory kind of took everyone, even himself, by surprise.
Finally, a better lineup overall, minus Alonso.
BTW who is our backup SS?
