Could Giants have interest in Edge Danielle Hunter?

Y28 : 6/7/2023 5:42 pm
28 year old sack artist that matured his game under current Giants DL coach Andre Patterson.

On the final year of his contract with a cost of $5.5 mil for this season.

His career includes 71 sacks, 85 tackles for loss, and 7 forced fumbles.

Vikings are in very tough CAP shape and this article and other media buzz today indicates he will be moved.

He'd probably be cheap
The coach connection and the need is the only reason

I could see it happening, but very likely no.

Based on what I found on the internet:

"Danielle" is a feminine name that embodies beauty, intellect, and defiance. A French variation of Daniel, Danielle is born from the Hebrew daniy'el and means "God is my Judge." It's a name that celebrates staying true to oneself, caring only for judgments of a higher power.

I'm guessing that Hunter is tough and mean. "Boy Named Sue" tough and mean.
Loved this player in his 'prime'

He would fill a big need (AO far from proven) and provide Wink with more options up front, good mentor to Thibs and AO
I say Yes...that dog can Hunt...er

Not only that, but Hunter is 5 years younger.

He's '28' so I don't think we need to act like his 'prime' is history.
He had a rough two years with injuries...
Klaatu : 6/8/2023 8:41 am : link
2020 (neck) and 2021 (torn pec), but rebounded nicely last year, played in all 17 games.

Just so, hence the "P". Beyond what Klaatu just posted, his best sack/pressure years were in mid- later teens of last decade. I would think JS is looking at him and the $$, fearing another Wink bear hug and broken ribs.

Thibodeaux and Ojulari were a pretty impressive tandem when on the field together, there was a considerable drop off when Ojulari missed games, which was often

I don’t know much about Hunter, but there is a definite need for another edge guy. Ximines and Ellerson Smith have not proven to be that guy
It's easier to believe the Giants (and others) would be interested...
Big Blue Blogger : 6/8/2023 9:23 am : link
... than it is to believe the Vikings will simply dump him for a price we would be happy about. The problem with Hunter's contract isn't his 2023 comp; it's all the unamortized restructure bonuses that will hit Minnesota's cap whether he plays for them in 2023 or not. One inference I think we can draw is that the Vikings won't let him go cheaply. He'a an attractive target, at least as a one-year rental. So I think the Giants would be in on Hunter, but I'll be surprised if they're in high enough to land him.

no words were written, just a reminder of what Danielle Hunter posted on the day Andre Patterson became a Giants coach (attached)

If they don't have interest
HBart : 6/8/2023 8:56 pm : link
That says something too. Can't imagine a situation more perfect for Hunter so you know his agent has been in touch. Hunter's well known to the Giants; Schoen is aggressive when opportunity arises. If Wink's conviction is enough to sell Schoen, Hunter will be a Giant. We can make the cap work.

The ole deductive reasoning says if he doesn't end up a Giant the powers that be didn't want him.
Hunter is in his prime

Got to think he's looking to get PAID on his next deal.

You’re right, if they want him and he wanted to come here, they’d make it work. I’ll leave the particulars to them..:)

But you know what, Howard? I’m kinda liking the fact that they planned well enough to possibly not have to use Adoree or LW money and let them play out their contracts and go from there..When’s the last time we were in such an enviable position?
As someone who
mittenedman : 6/10/2023 4:08 pm : link
thinks the Giants are much closer to contention than given credit for, I'd love this move. To me they've got the key components in place:

QB - Jones
RB - Barkley
TE - Waller
OTs - Thomas / Neal
C - Schmitz

ER - Thibs / Ojulari
DT - Lawrence / LW
3-down MIKE - Okereke
1-2 punch at CB - Adoree / Banks
stud S - McK

stud K - Gano

GREAT coaching with scheme continuity.

The pieces are in place to make noise. There isn't really a major component missing. Well-distributed core with talent in the right places. It's the best Giants squad (talent + coaching) since 2012. You have to capitalize when you can, and they will only have this coaching staff in place so long.

To me, looking at Giants next 3 years, and Ojulari a pending free agent, Hunter seems like a good idea. Not sure if he's a scheme fit for Wink though.
