NFT: Elly Delacruz is a freaking monster … a human cheat code

capone : 6/7/2023 8:45 pm
Remember how they hyped Oneil Cruz he is not in the same zip code as this guy …

legit 70+ potential on 4/5 tools … he is must watch tv , his signing bonus might end being the best $65k ever invested in mlb … by all accounts a charming likable kid … yes I know it’s been 2 games
As a Reds fan I haven’t been this excited in a long time.

IFA is absolutely a crapshoot, the Yanks just haven't had a lot

of luck.

Below is their 2018 class, the best of which is playing in the Cubs system. Vargas has dropped off their top 30 list.

Before you complain about my complaining, the Yanks barely have 2 players in the top 100 list right now. Even if you count Volpe and Peraza that's barely 4.

End rant.

When there was a rumbling about the Reds calling someone up

I picked him up for fantasy baseball. When it was McLain I held on to de la Cruz for the last few weeks, waiting for this. He has been the baseball story of the year so far with his minor league feats and now his first 2 games. This kid can flat out play and seems to have a lot of fun doing it.
they still have Christian Encarnacion Strand in AAA

23. Plays 1st and 3rd. Probably ultimately a DH for them. Hit like .577 in spring training. In 38 games this year he has 15 HRs with a 1.124 OPS. Last year 32 HRs and a .955 OPS in 122 games.

Around the IF and DH, they have Elly, Steer, India, McLain, and CES when he is called up. Ton of young talent
Reds got CES and Steer

from the Twins in the Tyler Mahle deal. Bet the Twins would like that one back
Reds all of a sudden are a fun team with tons of talent

I'm not sure it's "Luck". There is definitely some luck involved but from my vantage point, the Yankees don't seem as good at IFA as some other teams.
There's definitely
ManningLobsItBurressAlone : 6/8/2023 9:30 am : link
a good bit of luck involved. A lot of these kids are only 15 or so when these IFA handshake agreements are made. Yes, the development pipeline is a factor in molding them, but there's no formula to project what a 15 year old will look like 6 years into the future.

I am lucky enough to have both McLain and De La Cruz, though unfortunately I'm in a weekly lineup change league, and was not able to get DLC into my lineup. I'm a Yankees fan who rarely watches baseball, but I am tuning in on Uzzu to DLC's at bats. He's fun to watch, hopefully he keeps doing what he's doing.
that reds team is fun to watch
bigbluehoya : 6/8/2023 10:54 am : link
and they play in a band-box to boot.

That infield will really be something if Noelvi Marte starts cooking in the high minors.
And the crazy thing is they're only like 5 games out
Stu11 : 6/8/2023 11:28 am : link
They're pitching probably isn't quite good enough right now. However that division isn't real good especially with the Cards struggling so they can be competitive for a playoff spot quicker than you think.
First 2 games 2 bombs and a triple
capone : 6/8/2023 3:12 pm : link
One was a 458 ft 9 iron and the triple was the fastest time to third this year 10.2 I believe … incredible 6 foot 5 athlete really special arguable the greatest tool box in the mlb
i only saw one at bat by

Physcially yes - Straw could never run kike this guy he is more lean but hes only 21- he is 70 grade speed and plays on the dirt - if sticks at SS he will rack up WAR -He has a .3 WAR in 2 games ! ( do that math )

when he was a kid everyone assumed he would be a pitcher or play OF - he wasnt having it - he is every bit of 6/5 ( I think he is taller) and he is a switch hitter BTW - he will chase and the MILB 30% K rate is a risk but if that trends to 25% (it was a 27% in AAA) look out - he does walk 14% so a 2-1 ratio is just fine - so excited for Reds fans he could really be THE guy
