Belton was hurt second half of last year

frankmihs : 6/8/2023 4:56 pm
I just saw / heard that Dane was actually hurt the second half of the year. It does change my mindset a little bit on the safety position as he played well in the beginning and I thought fell out of favor with a coaches. He may still have fell out of favor but it's very possible he was just hurt. Should be interesting to see how we rebounds this year

Something I was thinking about the safety position;

could Belton play the strong safety spot beside McKinney?
Belton

was actually hurt the entire season. He broke his clavicle in training camp and it was an issue all year for him.
Having broken both collar bones

I can tell you that the recovery time is at least 6 weeks in a sling and at least another 2.5 months to fully heal. Not only does it hurt, but the bone itself is sensitive as hell and bears a lot of load with and upper core exertion.

Good to hear because he seemed to drop off a cliff.

didn't drop off a cliff. Combined with the injury was the in-season acquisition of Tony Jefferson and the emergence of Jason Pinnock, both of whom eventually took his snaps.
Broken collar bone

I don't know how you can play football with a broken collar bone.

I broke mine in a MMA tournament and I could not lift my arm for days.
The pain was so bad that I could not sleep.

His time definitely declined after the Texans game. Most attributed it to taking a bad angle that led to a very long run in that game.

Meant his playing time dropped off a cliff.

I have a feeling Belon is going to take him game to a next level this fall. Just a hunch. The Love loss won't be as missed as much.
hes a 4th round pick

Not if Pinnock plays like he did when filling in for XMac last year. Pinnock was all over the place both inside the box and playing CF. It would be great to have Belton, Pinnock and XMac all locked up for a few years, but Pinnock played extremely well when pressed last year. Then, Belton is trade bait.

If Belton and Pinnock step up, the Giants will have to decide if it's worth giving X a big contract. We'll have to see how they all play this year, I think X is gonna want to be paid like he's elite, and so far I don't think he has been.

I still think X is a far better player than the other two...Belton in particular. But you are right, if the Giants offer him a top 5 FS deal after that shit with the ATV where we didnt dock his pay and he says no...yea, go fry ice.
I think Pinnock

is going to be a name to look out for.
Belton made some mental mistakes too
Stratman : 6/9/2023 10:00 am : link
I recall him taking the wrong angle, being in the wrong spot at times. A learning process for him. Physically, he looked good at the start of the season.
I think safety is in better shape

than a lot of people think. They’ve got the 3 young guys, Bobby M as a FA, they are working McLoud there as well. That’s a pretty good room. Belton had some good moments early (despite the collar bone issue) and Pinnock later. McKinney is the top dog, but there’s a lot of support with him.
