Friendly suggestion to reporters for upcoming mini-camp

Eric from BBI : Admin : 6/9/2023 9:55 am
Most of the reporters check with BBI from time to time.

During the upcoming mini-camp, the position coaches and assistant general manager will be made available to the media.

Instead of asking another question about dead snaps, green dots, Barkley's absence, or Bellinger's biceps, can we get some questions about the new free agents and draft picks, as well as second-year players.

I'm talking about guys like Parris Campbell, Amani Oruwariye, Bobby McCain, Tre Hawkins, Jordon Riley, Gervarrius Owens, Joshua Ezeudu, Dane Belton, Marcus McKethan, among others.

A little diversity in the questions please. The position coaches are a great place to start.

Good luck with that.

Question for Wink
Y28 : 6/9/2023 10:23 am : link
Virtually no draft guides had an evaluation of Jordan Riley. How did he get on the Giants radar, and what was your involvement with him during the pre draft process? Why is his skillset a fit in a Wink Defense?
The beats

gfinop : 6/9/2023 10:53 am : link
Them a car wreck option. They may not listen just do they can get some clicks or attention on how they are not asking appropriate questions.

Very rarely I see posts on BBI on how diverse the questions are vs. posts on how absurd they are.

Could also be that's because it never happens.
Question for Kafka
Y28 : 6/9/2023 10:53 am : link
Your current WR roster includes 3 players that never took a regular season snap at WR last season, but you wanted each to remain a part of this year's 90 man roster.

Give us your brief snapshot and analysis of Makai Polk, Kalil Pimpleton, and Jaydon Mickens and why each could have a shot at this years final roster in a Kafka offense.
Reporter: What did you see when signing (INSERT NAME HERE) and how
Ivan15 : 6/9/2023 10:59 am : link
Is he fitting in.
Coordinator: He is learning our system, he is doing very well, he is doing everything we have asked him to do. Hard worker. Next question.
Don’t worry Eric

these putzes will continue to ask questions for the casual reader for circulation and clicks
1. Saquon, Saquon, Saquon
2, DJs contract
3. Saquon, Saquon, Saquon
4. How many wins are you predicting
5. What about this awful schedule
6. Saquon, Saquon, Saquon
Only is fans who actually want to hear about players really care.
As I typed that, felt like an ESPN interview. That’s 95% of the public’s depth of interest.

Jordan Riley is the guy who interests me the most at this point because he stands out as the "huh?" pick.

Sometimes. But you will be amazed at how much position coaches can/will reveal. The DL coach, for instance, is a goldmine of info. Same with the DB coach.
That's not going to drive up

Re: Why DL Jordon Riley?
Marty in Albany : 6/9/2023 11:52 am : link
Answer(s): We were shopping for a lineman, and at 325, the price per pound was a bargain.
Or, we were under a lot of time pressure at the draft and his name was easy to spell.
Or, you will get the real reason, (like, you can't coach size) which will probably be of interest only to Riley's mom.

great questions. Hope one of the beats reads this and steals them.
For Tom McGaughey
Y28 : 6/9/2023 12:25 pm : link
this offseason the Giants signed a number of free agents, some of whom have been known to excel on Specials.

Please explain your involvement as Special Teams Coordinator when this management is considering a veteran player signing.
You'll get 37 variations of questions about Barkleys absence

Eric, I’d say you should get press credentials,

but it’s likely below your pay scale.
I'm not sure if there is a need to
Spiciest Memelord : 6/9/2023 7:49 pm : link
overthink Riley, a 7th round pick. Take a flier on a big dude to occupy space when need be.

Maybe KT put in the good word? I assume he's a DT and not a Chip Kelly type DL like Armstead and Buckner, big tall DEs who are a good fit for a 3-3 - if Oregon even plays that.

I think there is; Riley's skillset is at NT where we're already three-deep and no good options should Leonard Williams get injured.
Personally, I would love any update on Aaron Robinson
TrevorC : 6/9/2023 11:09 pm : link
The guy seems like he got hurt, and then that was it. Guy was a high 3rd round pick who was starting to figure it out. But maybe the silence is deafening because his injury was far worse despite it happening early in the season.
My favorite interview question...
zxasqw12 : 6/10/2023 6:44 am : link
...and by "favorite" I mean "asinine":

"How good did it feel to <insert memorable player contribution>?"

Whenever I hear that question, I know we're dealing with a lazy, inept, or mediocre journalist.

I’d be pretty interested in the response. Been wondering about this selection ever since the draft. My hypothesis is that late in the draft, if you think a prospect is limited but has one specific high level ability, you take him because late picks are so unlikely to work out. But that’s a guess.
To me, Beavers is a hugely important player
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 6/10/2023 8:57 am : link
So I would hope to get some ideas on his movement and if reps will be rationed coming off of an injury.

Same with Collin Johnson after the Achilles. If I remember correctly, he was looking pretty good at camp last year.
Will the Giants copy the Eagles' QB sneak tush push?

Reporters are-for better or worse/worse IMO-going to ask?s/write articles that generate clicks. And an article entitled 'Will Saquon hold out?' is going to get more hits than 'Belton looking to fill Love's role'.

Nature of the media beast in this Internet/profit age.

100%

To wit - which writers are people most consistently starting threads about here? The ones that aggravate everyone. It’s a schtick that works way too much
