Agreed. The pitch was up and in but nothing intended other than to pitch Pete tough, which is exactly what you would want your Pitcher to do. If the pitch was further in Pete probably would have spun and got a glancing blow off the upper arm. As it was, the pitch was just in enough that Pete actually started his swing. Bad luck. Nothing more.
Mets are lucky to have him .. a natural likable leader … I saw him in the Arizona fall league and he was a pretty bad defensive player ….he really put in the work and he’s not bad at all Credit to him. I remember seeing hit a home run and I turned to some scouts I was sitting with and said, I think that’s the hardest ball I’ve ever seen hit and the next day we were watching the game and one guy told me it was the hardest boy you’ve ever seen hit it was the highest exit velocity ever recorded … it was off that kid from Toronto Nate Pearson who was throwing 100
Vientos and soon Mauricio. But I think Alvarez stands alone as someone very special. I think he'll soon match and eventually exceed Pete Alonso's contribution as a power hitter on the club. The other 3 should be good in their own right, but Alvarez will be the best of them.

And at catcher! If he becomes what it seems he can be, they’ll have one of the best hitters in baseball at what is statistically the weakest hitting position.

I’m as excited about Alvarez as anyone, but exceeding Alonso as a power hitter? I don’t think so. How many catchers hit 50 HR’s? He doesn’t need to do that to be exceptional.
Any chance of New York seeing a great home run season. Judge is out just when he heated up, now Alonso is out. I was hoping we were going to see a great home run battle for the home run record from last year, the real record of 62, not the cheating record. Alonso broke the rookie home run record Judge set, and it looked like his sights were set on the 62 Judge hit last year. Then suddenly Judge got red hot, and here we were, the two sluggers eye to eye. Then the injury bug hits both players. Maybe next season we'll get that. I would love to see both of them break the 62 in the same eason. It would electrify New York. I was a kid when New York had the Mantle/Maris home run chase for Ruth's record of 60. It was one of the most exciting things I ever saw in Sports. I think these two guys got what it takes to give us a repeat of that 1961 season.
Vogelbach gets another "stay" excuse on the roster still. Unbelievable.
Better see Vientos get some more time.
For what? It was clearly unintentional.
Bright side is hopefully they let Vientos play everyday and get into a groove...then Pete comes back and Mets are better for it.

Did the Mets retaliate at all in that series ?

No excuses, Buck
