NFT: RIP Alan Arkin

Anakim : 6/30/2023 9:47 am
Fantastic actor. Little Miss Sunshine, Argo, The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming, Popi, Glengarry Glen Ross...
Link - ( New Window )
IMO, Wait Until Dark was his best film with Audrey Hepburn
PatersonPlank : 6/30/2023 9:49 am : link
the ending is filmed black because she is blind, and Arkin plays a bad guy (which was unique for him)

That's horrible

I'll throw out a minor role of his that I always found hysterical: Dr. Oatman in Grosse Point Blank.
One of the greats!

"Well, the truth of the matter is, I don't report to a Commissioner. I report to a committee. Some of whom are appointed, some elected, and the rest co-opted on a bi-annual basis. It's a quorum, so to speak."

‘Everyone to get from street’ … ‘

‘you must be crazy’, ‘ I am crazy, that’s why I should be out of the army’,
‘if you want to be out of the army, you’re obviously not crazy’.

RIP
The In-Laws is one of my all time favorites.
Victor in CT : 6/30/2023 10:27 am : link
It's been on a lot recently on MVIES! which I think is a WPIX station like Antenna TV.

Great actor, equally adept and drama and comedy.

I HAVE FLAMES ON MY CAR!!!

Both him and Peter Falk were great! The remake of this film was horrible

I don't recall a role he played
John in Loudoun : 6/30/2023 10:49 am : link
where I didn't thoroughly enjoy it. Wonderful actor. Never knew he was in a band that covered The Banana Boat Song which was a hit. RIP.
Dr. Sheldon Kornpett.
Crispino : 6/30/2023 11:03 am : link
He was hilarious in the In Laws, and made everything he appeared in better. RIP.
“ Beaks!?”
Crispino : 6/30/2023 11:09 am : link

He was great as the dad in
eric2425ny : 6/30/2023 12:04 pm : link
Edward Scissorhands. The part where he pours him the glass of whiskey and is trying to explain how women change as they grow up was hilarious.
Thieves come...
Chris in Philly : 6/30/2023 12:23 pm : link
and they take things! They take the phones!

My first real date
VTChuck : 6/30/2023 2:17 pm : link
was to see the "Russians" Neighbor drove us down to the theater in his convertible. Damned if I can remember the girl, but the movie was funny as hell.

I had just turned 15. Summer 1966.

RIP Alan

I'll always remember him most for that role. Mainly for nonchalant delivery of the line
"Hey Ed, where ya going ?" He acted like he was in a completely different film from everyone else and it was perfect.
Two somewhat obscure movies
SomeFan : 7/2/2023 5:51 am : link
that he was great in are Coupe de Ville (should be much higher rated by critics) and City Island (small part)
“That’s some catch….
thrunthrublue : 7/2/2023 9:41 pm : link
….that catch twenty two!”.
