Injured players
Aaron Robinson and WanDale Robinson worked out together. Started with basic stretches and typical warm up, but finished with a variety of all out sprints for various distances. No balls thrown. Both players moving very well but didn’t see any hard cuts attempted.
Marcus McKethan looks to be in great shape. He has safety braces on both legs. Was doing a lot of band exercises from a 3 point stance and firing out. Seems to be moving very well.
A’Shawn Robinson and DJ Davidson worked out together. Started on the bikes and then moved to a lot of stretching. Didn’t appear to me that their workouts were as strenuous as the 3 players above
NOTE: Parris Campbell and Jihad Ward each spent some time with the trainers. Both seemed to be moving quite well. Seemed more like a maintenance day than anything serious.
During the “scrimmage”, Ryder Anderson was rushing from the outside and injured his arm as he reached up. Seemed he was in lot of pain and was walked to the locker room with trainers.
O-line warmup
The starting OL was LT Thomas, LG Ezeudu, C Schmitz RG Bredeson RT Neal
A surprise to me was that when Schmitz was given a break at C, Bredeson moved over to that position and Sean Harlow (not Glowinski) moved to RG.
When Bredeson finished his work at C, he was replaced by Lemieux, who proceeded to dribble back to back snaps to a coach standing in shotgun (later during the 11 on 11 2nd team scrimmage, Lemieux had another snap dribble to QB Taylor. The coaches quickly blew the play dead). Not good.
Special Teams
This was the most special teams work we have seen this year.
It started with kickoffs. The returners in order were Mickens, Pimpleton, Gray, Holmes, Brightwell. Both Mickens and Pimpleton have a special gear. It will be hard for either to make the roster if that’s the only skill they offer.
Kickoff coverage was interesting as both Collin Johnson and Nick McCloud were starting and providing outside containment.
Punt returns- the first one up was Jamison Crowder and he is just significantly better than anyone else. Clean catches and immediately up field. Pimpleton looks good as well as Mickens, but again, they would have to first make the 53, and Crowder was clearly better. Slayton-just don’t think he cuts it as a punt returner.
One outside blocker on FG and XP attempts was Lawrence Cager. He was given 1st team reps on both the left side and right side.
The outside guys trying to block FGs and XPs were Deonte Banks and Trey Hawkins.
Sorry-I can’t recall who was playing fullback in front of punter Jamie Gillan
My overall ST thought- To make this team, you need to play specials. And the amount of time on specials being given to Collin Johnson, Nick McCloud, Jamison Crowder, and Lawrence Cager is very noticeable. While none of these 4 will be starters, they are very capable backups and their long looks on specials is a solid indication of the current pecking order.
The scrimmages
On offense, Slayton is clearly the top starting WR (though Campbell was out today). Hyatt was given a good amount of 1st team reps, but the player he was replacing was Hodgins.
For years I would watch the Giants play the Cowboys and scream throughout the game “How the Hell is Beasley this wide open” ??? Well guess what? I am still screaming that, except now in a good way as he is a Giant.
My player of the day today was Jamison Crowder. Dominated with his 2nd team snaps, and on his chances with the first team-caught everything. He plays with a ton of energy and you can see his sideline field leadership with the other WRs. Clearly Sterling Shepard will need to really step up to outplay what we have seen from both Beasley and Crowder. Two low cost outstanding veteran pickups.
I am sure it’s already been well mentioned on BBI, but Jalin Hyatt had TWO amazing long TD catches. It just seems he gets faster and faster as he moves downfield. Even in double coverage (Holmes and McKinney, he got past them for a great diving catch.
The second team WRs are Collin Johnson and David Sills and TE is Lawrence Cager. Each player looked outstanding. Johnson had at least 8 catches today, and really burned Bobby McCain on a 25 yard pass across the middle following a nice fake. (Actually, I have been completely unimpressed with Bobby McCain. Giving up play after play when he is out with the 2nd team.
Some highlights with the D:
Dexter Lawrence is simply unstoppable and destroyed several plays by driving right up the middle. Some valiant efforts by Schmitz, but he is clearly overmatched in strength. And today we had Nacho in for Leonard Williams. The starting D line was clearly more impressive than the starting O line.
Zyon Gilbert had a really nice play in coverage to knock down what looked like a sure completion.
LB Micah McFadden got a lot of first team reps today over Darrien Beavers. McFadden had the defensive play of the day. Covered Darren Waller at least 30 yards downfield and knocked away a well thrown pass.
Should note that today the Giants D started in Dime. Only one linebacker (Bobby Okereke) and the 3 starting safeties were McKinney, Belton, and Pinnock.
It’s difficult for the LBs to cover the backs in these scrimmages. Most pass attempts were caught. I thought the best 2 in coverage were McFadden and Dyontae Johnson. Troy Brown had nice coverage to knock away a pass attempt when the 3rd string was on the field. Saquon had a number of great catches and he beat Okereke in coverage again and again.
The Giants “scrimmaged” a 2nd time and with that one, Adoree Jackson was in the slot and the starting corners were our two rookies. Each rookie had a few nice plays.
The Giants 2nd unit O Line is LT Peart, LG Hamilton, C Lemieux, RG Glowinski, RT Phillips (when the FG unit comes onto the field, Peart and Phillips join the first team O linemen.
Overall another good practice. Just hoping the Ryder Anderson injury is not serious.
Excellent write up
Your take on tre hawkins?
He has a chance to do some crazy underneath work while our speedsters are running down field.
Excited for this receiving corps.
He has very long arms and he mirrors his receiver until he determines when he will throw out his arm and make what is often a jolting contact with the receivers shoulder.
He is strong and that contact seems to take the receiver out of his planned pattern. Is it PI?? Not sure, but clearly he is winning battles against many of our receivers by disrupting routes.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with Hawkins.
Lemieux seems on thin ice. Would be nice if he could have made progress somewhere but it appears he's merely a low depth or PS type.
Talkin' Giants felt Campbell had a maintenance day. Also said post practice Jones threw to Crowder and Beasley.

It's PI amongst the refs since he's a Giant and is not a proven name.

Tendonitis with Campbell.

Great to hear. Maybe we really do have a find! I have hopes that Arob can be out cb4 over Holmes. Just think he has a better skill set
Yes, this is clearly a bad pass.
You seem to insist on making negative posts on this site.
I wonder why?

Per some practice reports, Pimpleton was catching everything thrown to him; he's got a quick first step and is elusive, twitchy. I'd like to see him get comfortable as 1st PR guy and an end of the bench WR. Since WDR seems to have a ways to go and he is similar to WDR in my opinion in how he moves, naming him to the 53 might play in multiple ways.
Aaron Robinson is truly one of the mystery guys on NYG rosters this last decade (like an Elerson Smith), never sees the field but is carried forward on the recovering list ):

Pimpleton has sneakily stood out in a number of practices.
Again, regarding Robinson, do Giants fans actually realize he has only suffered one football injury while in a Giants uniform? One. And it was when a Bear bent him over backwards with his foot trapped behind him.

Is Jones overthrowing Hyatt, hence the need to dive?

I have only seen the twitter video, but I though it was an excellent pass. Much deeper and it is out of the end zone. I wouldn't call what Hyatt did diving. It looked like he slowed down and sat. Have to see the whole route to know for sure.
And thanks from me.
Watching that clip many times, my question has been what was DJ's distance in the air?
(Seriously, though, thanks!)
Right now, I think there are 6 locks - Thomas, Edezue, Schmitz, Bredeson, Glowinski and Neal.
Realistically, I think Phillips is a lock also which makes 7.
They are definitely carrying 8 (with at least 2 others on the practice squad). The big need is someone who can play left tackle but after that, Lemieux is battling for the 5th interior line slot. It would be nice if he can play center but it is a new position and the the battle at center in my mind is for the 3rd spot. If Bredeson starts at left guard, I would hope that Edezu shows enough for them to move Bredeson to center if Schmitz were to get injured.

SLIM.... Bredeson may be our starting LG, OC, or RG. He was in there for Glowinski today. We're getting kind of late into camp for full-practice experiments.
I too think Lemieux and Peart are on thin ice. But, this also concerns me because I’m concerned with our OL depth.
Reading what was said about Crowder really made me happy- he is good in the slot and now he is our best PR. Give the man the job!
thanks
Ive watched it several times. While it is not a bad pass, I get the impression that Hyatt had to go to the ground because he had to reroute a bit.
Whether or not it was because the ball carried a bit or he took the wrong line doesnt matter. When the ball is that deep, the catch is what counts. Hyatt has been practicing with Jones for about 2 weeks and is digesting a lot. I wouldnt be surprised if Hyatt drifted on his route and had to come back or if DJ put too much loft under it.
Im with ColHowPepper, I would love to see an overhead shot of the play to see how inline the two players were. Obviously, the goal is for that ball to be caught while Hyatt is running full speed and he takes it to the house. But that connection might take some time.
Some of you guys have gotten intolerable.
Now a 50 yard TD catch against double coverage is getting nit-picked to death.
