What happened to that conference? Why did it fold ?The conference
had well known schools with large alumni bases and big TV markets
in LA San Diego SF all of Oregon Washington state and Arizona.
other than to watch UT games. I was really surprised to see Cal and Stanford pulling out. I have no idea what happens from here. I would have thought the improvements at USC and UCLA who have breathed some life into the conference.
led by their commissioner George Kliavkoff waited for a big TV deal that would at least be = or > than the Big 12's. They never got it because they waited too long for something to fall into their lap. Reactive versus pro-active.
Instead, the best deal they got was a streaming deal from Apple TV for < $30M. And who the hell is going to stream the PAC12?
The defections started with USC and UCLA. And then Washington and Oregon. Kliavkoff blew it.
One. West coast games vs National games TV markets
that the conference has totally crumbled. Only Oregon State and Washington State haven't bolted. Utah is going to the Big 12 next year. At least they'll be reunited with BYU to rekindle that rivalry.
Biggest reason in my mind was because of larry Scott. Old limousine Lary would take a limousine just to attend a meeting across the street. He made more money then any other power 5 commish tried to build his own network for the PAC 12 without know what he was doing. Spent millions in moving the HQ to silicon Valley. Bending over backwards for Stanford who hates its own football program and the list goes on and on.
what's happening with the traditional rivalry games? Hope those still get played even if not within the conference.
But it seems crazy that it just went away. Money talks I guess.
It's ridiculous. Just do away with conferences for college football and just have 1 huge conference divided into divisions (that would oddly resemble the old conferences c. mid-90s) and playoffs.

It had already folded into the expanded playoffs, so this doesn't really have any impact.
