But they stepped up big time in the second. Credit to Jones and Saquon picking up the load. And nice to see Waller, Hyatt etc making significant contributions.
Lots to work on but enjoy the win all.
Was easy to give up on this team after the first half
Was predictable and quite honestly garbage the first 6 quarters. We can work around the o-line if you can keep the defense off balance. Looks like Daboll took over.
I have seen very few games so cleanly defined by two different halves. Some of that was due as others said to Arizona essentially not trying to do anything on offense by the middle of the fourth quarter. And I do wonder if Daboll didn't start calling the plays in the second half. But the defense got some stops and our playmakers on offense made some plays, especially Hyatt and Waller. Real kudos to Jones and Barkley, who looked like he was seriously hurt on that last drive. For his first start, I thought McKethan played very well. Ezeudu also held up pretty well at LT.
should be down 21 to that team but that happens. Even in 86 or 90 you can find games like this. Big thing is they won and are 1-1 and showcased what the offense can look like.
mindset to go from totally inept to completely dominant. To be able to block out all the negative feelings and come back to win that game shows me something

Hope they build the confidence and surge up on the win, big test coming against a good D line Thurs.
had a wrap around his ankle, so hopefully it's not a torn ACL. But a high ankle sprain could cause him to miss a lot of time. My guess is that neither he, Bredeson, or Thomas play Thursday.

1986 we were down 17-0 to New Orleans- won that game and SF 17-0 at the half, won that game too..
I'd love to hear it. That second half was basically the team most of us expected from the start.
Yeah. I was shitting on staff and players up until the last Cards drive. I give credit where it’s due: they earned plaudits for what they did today. The team showed grit and resilience, along with finally playing up to the talent level.
Saquon also left it all out there. He was running violently until he had to go out. I frankly wish he’d make some business decisions on runs where it’s plugged up like that. Getting bent backwards like that can lead to all kinds of different severe injuries.
If McKethan played well, he would start at RG. Bredesen is not coming out.
I’m assuming Bredeson is out on Thursday b/c he’s still be in concussion protocol
Yeah, there's no way we see Bredeson until Week 4. Saquon could be a month if that's a high ankle sprain. Thomas probably gives it a go Week 4 with 2 weeks of rest for his hamstring
Stop complaining about these two because they are the reason the Giants won! Barkley is hasn't lost it, he is not old news. Stop the madness. They are the best we have on offense! You can expect them to do amazing things without good play-calling and a solid offense line! If the Giants had a great Oline, they would never be in question. smh.
“By video, appeared to suffer a right high ankle injury when he was rolled up on in a pile - unlikely to play on Thursday in W3 - missed time two seasons ago with right ankle issues - he will get X-rays, which we expect to be negative - 2020 ACL tear was on left side.”
changed the game with that one play that should have been a TD
His other catch was AMAZING.
He needs to play more. Stop with this spread the snaps shit at receiver.
Hyatt changed the game. He forced the Cardinals to back off and it opened up a lot of space for Waller in the intermediate passing game
Agree, thought the same thing
When you have a deep threat defenses have to bring a safety over the top so that is one less defender in the intermediate zone to defend the passing game

Looked like he mouthed "not again ..." so whatever it is seems like he is initially worried about it taking some time based off his past experience.
like PI by the Commanders defender on the two point conversion, but Holmes wasn't called for even more obvious PI against Washington in the end zone last season.
Fantastic combination of deep shots and YAC in the passing game.
The Giants seemingly have entered the 21st century on offense.
Better OL protection is the keystone to all of that. The modern offensive playcalling is there but is still useless without a good OL and the OL played well in the 2nd half
.....are showing Daboll that guys he has as originally as backups can actually be better and can give us more than the originally pegged starters.
I still think this thing is going to be an uphill battle all year due to the schedule and our team just not being there yet, but we'll see how the team jells.
Very disappointed in the overall start despite the great comeback win today.

Would characterize Saquon Barkley’s demeanor as down or despondent. Not clear what exactly the X-rays showed, but his face told the story that it’s not good #giants
We will see how that goes. They have the short week too and really won't benefit from any travel by us since we are staying out there. Plus, they had to play hard until the end.
I think we could keep it close, we'll see. Every game is different.

Of course, I couldn't agree more.
Although, Jones made a number of nice plays leaving the pocket and buying himself time.
will be tested Thursday night….and that’s a good thing because I expect we go with 3 of those young guys and AT the old man ,when he comes back, the rest of the season.
was a very Bills-esque showing by the offense, (no surprise given Daboll taking playcalling reins). Losing Barkley hurts, but if the rejiggered OL can hold up, we can do some damage.
Glad the defense stepped up near the end, but they're the unit I'm most concerned about right now. A similar performance vs the 49ers/Dolphins/Bills gives us zero margin for error.
some Five Hour Energy drinks or something about 5 minutes before they come on the field...they always snooze thru the first quarter of a game, unbelieveable.

Saquon Barkley had an x-ray on his right ankle after the game. He limped around the locker room and it was a bit swollen. Clearly he had some pain and discomfort.
This is definitely a concern for the Giants and Barkley moving forward, especially with a short turnaround this week but also for the long-term prospects of the team. A damper on a dramatic win. #giants

Time for Eric Gray to show he's the goods.
The other thing this does is it likely puts almost everything on Jones because one of the other RBs breaking out is unlikely. Hoping against hope that Gray is the goods

Everything on offense is already on Jones.
RE: RE: Not sure if mentioned but Slayton deserves a tip of the hat
He’s not Odell but it’s a threat we haven’t had since. He’s got speed, good wr instincts, and hands.
He has very good hands and tracks the ball well. So far he's had to slow down to catch the ball. When Jones learns to lead him better some of those will become home run balls. At that point he completely changes the defensive coverage over the top, and Slayton seems to be playing in a higher gear also. If they keep it up and refine it, the middle/underneath become a Waller/Bellinger/Shep/Campbell danger zone for the defense.

It felt like the season was on the line every drive of the second half was relieved when it was over. We experienced the Daniel Jones floor game in the first half and the Daniel Jones ceiling game in the second half.
You can see from the broadcast that they were playing that shallow 2 high and just crashing down on our short passing game. Jones either didn’t take or missed a couple shots in the first half and that Hyatt bomb changed everything. Need more of that regardless of the OL issues. Gotta trust Jones to either buy time or take the sack when things break down. Continue to deprogram him from the Jason Garrett brainwashing, get it through to him that the light is green.
Thank God the FO didn’t puss out and give him a McAffrey contract. Unfortunate he got hurt, but he gets hurt every year which is why you don’t give him a long term contract.
That running backs not named saquon Barkley occasionally fumble… I feel bad for him such a shit hand with his injury luck. Never had the chance to show who he was at PSU

Do they drop the ball into opponents hands every game too?

Wtf? So your point is that since Holmes got away with one last season Washington is forever given the benefit of doubt? What the hell does Holmes have to do with the play from today? So, every interference call from now until eternity you’re going to bring up a play from last season? You’re trying too hard, bruh

Again, Jones' "floor in the 1st half" included 6 drops - 6 drops. The INT was right through Barkley's hands. If you want to shit on Jones for the 1st half, your next sentence must include all the drops.
RE: RE: RE: RE: Looking forward to SY’s game review
...why on the play before his injury did he go down behind the LOS for like a three yard loss.
I thought that really was not a smart play.
You're playing for clock time. They were kicking the FG the whole time, not trying to advance the ball.
Well if that's the point, why did we run hard on the next two plays? LOL
My point, it was a dumb play. You run it for positive yardage and make them use their time out. You don't go backwards.
In fact, I bet Daboll probably got word to SB from the sideline to run that ball up in there like you mean it....and then of course he got hurt on 2nd down.
And Breida's run was actually quite nice considering the Cards were waiting for it on third down.........

No, not forever, and not even again. Just saying last year they had one against their receiver in the end zone that wasn't called, and today their defender in the same situation wasn't called. The explanation for both "non-calls" is likely that the officials are at least a little more reluctant to throw a flag in those situations. But both plays were penalties IMO.
Arizona played well.....and than the Giants played inspired
Was Jones sacked in the second half? I don't think so. With two backups playing, and Glowinski back in at left guard.
Now the worry beside Barkley is Bredeson's concussion. No way he plays Thursday.
The line kind of looked better after he went out. If Thomas is back Ezedu at guard may work fine.
Glowinski missed 3 blocks in his first 4 plays....literally no hitters. He needs to stay on the bench. Hopefully Bredeson only misses 1 game and Ezeudo takes over on Thursday with Thomas returning to LT.

Didn’t take a shot that was there, missed a shot, overcooked a screen and generally seemed uneasy. I’m only going off memory from the broadcast too. He was very bad, full stop. A big a reason for our awful offense. I’ve defended him plenty and was in favor of the extension given the out. But he was awful independent of the things around him, which were also awful. We went 6 quarters without scoring a point.
Having said all that, he was a superstar in the 2nd half and put the team on his back.
That was a fun game! I was okay with whatever outcome took place, I was just relieved we finally showed a pulse. Ecstatic we pulled out the win though.

You'll see his value if he's not on the field. Opposing defenses aren't biting on PA with Breida/Gray/Brightwell, which is going to put more stress on DJ.

They weren’t really biting on PA with Barkley in the lineup.
To beat the teams coming up on our schedule. Not sure why that’s even a debate. The offensive line isn’t good enough to smoke and mirrors with lesser running backs
Where he blows Barkley and gives back handed compliments to Jones so he can stay on brand with his draft grades.
In the quarter century that I've run this site, there have been many people who have written game reviews. Sy is the best I've had, which is saying something given the work guys like Joey has done.
It’s the nature of the position. They take on the biggest collisions and end up in the middle of scrums with limbs anchored in turf. Barkley isn’t any more injury prone than any other RB, none of them are connected. Likeliest scenario was that he didn’t play 17+ games this year so the Giants will have to manage a likely outcome.
That was a fun game! I was okay with whatever outcome took place, I was just relieved we finally showed a pulse. Ecstatic we pulled out the win though.
Thankfully for us the Cardinals didn't seem to have any answers for the adjustments we made at halftime. Perhaps they got complacent assuming the game was over and also ran out of gas in the 4th
The Cardinals looked shell shocked when we got within 7 pts

in the second half (which it’s blatantly obvious he did).
Why are Daboll and Kafka not on the same page with running the offense? The offensive strategy in the second half of this game (when Daboll took over the play calling) was vastly different than the previous 6 quarters. I’m perplexed by this.

Inexperienced offensive coordinator had a plan in mind for week 1 and week 2 but didn't know how to get out of it when it was clear it wasn't working. Easy to forget Kafka is wet behind the ears.
The first time the Giants came back from a 21 pt deficit to win a game since 1949. If you can't be excited about what the team did in the second half, DJ, Hyatt, Waller, Slayton, Saquon, the make-shift O-line, don't know what to tell you.
He rushed for 63 yards with a less than 4.0 average. Caught 30 yards of passes and for the second week, was the cause of Dimes throwing an interception on a ball that glanced off his hands. He rushed for 51 yards, caught 12 yards of passing, and was responsible for Dimes interception off his hands in game one.
Bottom line- you can’t say Saquon has been essential in either game. In fact, how do you know Breida or Brightwell wouldn’t do just as well if not better? Getting more than 63 or 51 yards isn’t that difficult. And, if you don’t cause two turnovers like Saquon did, that is another plus.
I’m not hating on Saquon….just looking at the numbers.

Thanks for the laugh. How do we know many of the QB's couldn't be better than Mahomes these past two games?
If you think Breida or Birghtwell could have socred on that TD that Barkley had in teh 4th qaurter or that 10-12 yard run he made when he spun ot the outside after the middle was stuffed in teh 4th waurter, then I have a veyr large vbrdige to sell you.
So, you just want to look at the stats without even an iota of consideration that play action would be better with SB? You want to throw away logic and pretend when analyzing player we should just look at data only?
So again - apparently this year Mahomes isn't that essential? Per below I guess Mac Jones is more essential than Mahomes using statistcial data and throwing away logic like you have just done with the Breida and Brgithwell vs SB comparison?
Jordan Love
CJ Stround
Trevor Lawrence - - Mahoems beat him today --
all are ahead of Mahomes using statstics without logic just as you are doing.
I was as pissed as anyone with SB's brick hands after interception 2 this year going off his hands (and last year his screwign up a pass vs Dallas). But that play he made to get the TD-- not many backs can do that. And to think that the Defense doesn't acount for him in a high level manner woudl be being incredibly naive.
Couple of points about the interceptions off Barkley's hands.
Throwing to Saquon involves higher inherent risk than with most RBs - not because his hands are especially bad, but because of the attention he attracts. On a tip drill, there are likely to be defenders around to capitalize. Barkley needs to put even more of a premium on securing the catch, perhaps at the cost of a half-beat in turning upfield.
Of course, it can happen to anyone: Kyren Williams had a similar miscue today; it completely changed the course of the Rams-49ers game, and perhaps of the season in the NFC West. But having it happen twice in two games suggests a trend that needs correction.
Ideally, Barkley wouldn't feature so prominently in the passing game. So far, play action and the threat of Saquon out of the backfield have been among the few things providing Jones time to throw. That's the key challenge for Thursday. The Rams seemed to find a way today, until that fluke Kyren Williams play, and I'm not sure their line is any better than ours.
Anyway, we'll get a look at "running back by committee" on Thursday. I hope it's not a case of "Be careful what you wish for." On the positive side, after rebounding from 60-0 over the first six quarters of the season, we can have some confidence that the Giants won't let a dispiriting prime-time loss (if it comes to that) deflate them.
action, but seeing how Dallas and Arizona ran the ball down our throat, I'd like to see bigger people at the LOS (like A’Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches) and if that means sitting Kayvon Thibodeaux or one of our 5 DBs for a few series... that's fine with me. Really hard to win in the NFL giving up 150 yards a game on the ground.
glad they won, live to fight another day. at least they come home
1-2 at worst and play SEA at home for once with 10 days to prepare, BUT:
I'm still pissed. The first possession on both sides were a joke. 0-20 at halftime? YOU CAN'T BE SERIUOS!
Wink stinks. Sorry. They couldn't even sniff a sack against a shit team with a bad QB. Lucky for Wink AIR missed a FG or it's OT at best. They've given this "mad scientist" everything he wanted literally letting him choose a 1st round pick and he can't dial up any pressure.
Did Daboll secretly take over the play calling? I've heard and seen rumors. Suddenly the deep ball was in play and the Safeties had to drop back, the whole offense opened up.

Interesting point re tips.
I'm bummed Barkley got hurt. Had he not, I'd expect he'd be focusing hard on the receiving aspect of his game moving forward because that's the kind of guy he is. But over the course of a few games I expect to see Breida perform well enough that he and Barkley become Exhibit A in why you don't break the bank for running backs.
Bonus that Breida's time to shine will be in SFO where he started out (averaging 5 YPC BTW).
Will definitely make this one of their replays of the week. They take the top three most exciting games and re-air them. And I can’t wait to watch because it didn’t air in DC so I only had the game thread. Which was crazy. I was even piling on and I couldn’t see the damn game. But BBI painted one hell of a picture. Can’t wait to see this game.

Interested to see how Sy grades him. Be a big boost if he has some potential.
We'll see against that great 49ers DL but McKethan didn't get his name called once today and that's good for an OL

Yeah, there's no way we see Bredeson until Week 4. Saquon could be a month if that's a high ankle sprain. Thomas probably gives it a go Week 4 with 2 weeks of rest for his hamstring

“By video, appeared to suffer a right high ankle injury when he was rolled up on in a pile - unlikely to play on Thursday in W3 - missed time two seasons ago with right ankle issues - he will get X-rays, which we expect to be negative - 2020 ACL tear was on left side.”

If McKethan played well, he would start at RG. Bredesen is not coming out.
I’m assuming Bredeson is out on Thursday b/c he’s still be in concussion protocol
Ok - I was able to see the 2nd half. Who took over for him at LG?
Great to see the coaching staff we remember from last year.

Agree, thought the same thing
When you have a deep threat defenses have to bring a safety over the top so that is one less defender in the intermediate zone to defend the passing game
Don't even try to reason with them.

Hyatt is so sneaky-fast, he just glides, it doesn't even look like he is burning... next thing you know he has 3+ yards on his man
That was clear as day pass interference on the 2 point try too and they didn't call it!

Thank you.. I was thinking that this guy for some reason has to do some stupid thing after each simple catch.
Waller... please act like you have been there before.
And I'd be all for it. That 31 point, second half offense is what I'm here to see.
Leave McKethan alone next to Neal.
The Giants seemingly have entered the 21st century on offense.
Better OL protection is the keystone to all of that. The modern offensive playcalling is there but is still useless without a good OL and the OL played well in the 2nd half

Nah. I highly doubt it. Not this soon on a season
This - it all depends on the OL.

Of course, I couldn't agree more.
Although, Jones made a number of nice plays leaving the pocket and buying himself time.
2) That comeback, even in week 2, salvaged the season...at least for now.
3) Speculation that the 1st half they were trying to hard to protect the young OL. Let it fly in the 2nd half
4) Hyatt needs to be on the field A LOT MORE
Today?
Who let you in on the secret?
Glad the defense stepped up near the end, but they're the unit I'm most concerned about right now. A similar performance vs the 49ers/Dolphins/Bills gives us zero margin for error.
Jones was tremendous in the second half.
5 drives
42 plays
350 yards
4 TDs/ 1 FG
Not really, 31-8 is pretty dominating. I think we need to look at this as what it was, two separate halves
Surely you can see the way they played in the second half is good enough to win a lot of games
Definitely, great grab on the final drive

Looked like the ankle went inside rather than rolling to the outside. Those take time.
His catch on the last drive was superb.
I'd like to see him high point that ball that was a tad underthrown in the first half down the far sideline.

I thought a shin down was in...and that sure looked like his shin was in.
I thought Slayton was terrific. That catch over the middle in the 4th quarter was a big play and a difficult one to make.
Havent seen anyone talk about it but Hodgins’ body control to catch that laser from DJ in the end zone was great. Not an easy catch to make.
I'd be surprised if we saw him anytime before Week 7
Today?
Who?
Joking of course, but haven’t seen much of him. Dex did finally crank it up in the second half

Time for Eric Gray to show he's the goods.
The other thing this does is it likely puts almost everything on Jones because one of the other RBs breaking out is unlikely. Hoping against hope that Gray is the goods

I don’t recall that being the problem with him I thought it was the layups he bumbles

Now we did it in a half!!!!
I thought that really was not a smart play.
I thought that really was not a smart play.
You're playing for clock time. They were kicking the FG the whole time, not trying to advance the ball.

Did he really write that? I read the reviews occasionally, but wow, that's a bit of an early tag.
Again, Jones' "floor in the 1st half" included 6 drops - 6 drops. The INT was right through Barkley's hands. If you want to shit on Jones for the 1st half, your next sentence must include all the drops.

The key is the OL...SF will let us know if OL turned the corner....

This game is the same reason we need to let the season play out before rushing to any dumb judgements.

Put the team on his back and we won.

Why are Daboll and Kafka not on the same page with running the offense? The offensive strategy in the second half of this game (when Daboll took over the play calling) was vastly different than the previous 6 quarters. I’m perplexed by this.

Per below I guess Mac Jones is more essential than Mahomes using statistcial data and throwing away logic like you have just done with the Breida and Brgithwell vs SB comparison?
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/passing.htm
Jordan Love

In a dome with a kicker who has 50+ yard range, I'm sure the confidence level was high.
action, but seeing how Dallas and Arizona ran the ball down our throat, I'd like to see bigger people at the LOS (like A’Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches) and if that means sitting Kayvon Thibodeaux or one of our 5 DBs for a few series... that's fine with me. Really hard to win in the NFL giving up 150 yards a game on the ground.

The QB took control.
Why are Daboll and Kafka not on the same page with running the offense? The offensive strategy in the second half of this game (when Daboll took over the play calling) was vastly different than the previous 6 quarters. I’m perplexed by this.
Where are you guys getting thid info thar BD took over the play calling?
