that was the best i've seen jones navigate the pocket.
i was trying to specifically watch the 4 young OL and they all did a good job generating movement in the run game, mckethan and neal had key blocks on the series with barkleys td run and the run before it to get the ball on the goaline. but in the passing game it seemed like there weren't a lot of simple "block the guy in front of you" protections, they were kicking across formations a lot, and it seemed like jones was eluding at least one guy or sliding away from someone on most plays. in pass pro ezeudu and mckethan specifically looked somewhat "bend but dont break" and my big takeaway was jones navigating a lot of messy pockets well was the difference in that game.
there were also some plays the cardinals defended well that he smartly didn't force. in the rz he had that roll out right that he extended but smartly put out of bounds at the last second. also had the play in the rz where he put the ball in the ground near waller to avoid a sack and a grounding call.
not knocking the OL at all, given the circumstances they did a great job regardless of opponent. just a gutsy team win all around and hopefully something to build on. not sure if they schemed things differently to make life easier for what was basically an all new OL but hopefully this is the start of the OL taking some real steps forward (especially once thomas comes back).
they played hard and if you look at almost every big play the giants made arizona defenders were really close to making the play themselves. barkley only barely got a step on his td, hodgins td was through a tight window, slayton made some tough catches, jones broke contain on some runs where it looked like they had him, waller made some tough catches, etc.
when we see the numbers tomorrow i suspect they got pressure on jones on a high% of plays even in the 2nd half. so yes it appears they are a bit better than expected (especially dobbs).
Arizona actually has some players on the offensive side of the ball. Connor, Hollywood, Ertz, a decent LT, and Parris Johnson at RT who looks good so far. Plus the young WR Wilson. Dobbs had a career game - thought he looked serviceable.
Just got to hope they can start as fast as they fknished this game
Brian Baldinger @BaldyNFL · 15m . @Daniel_Jones10 runs for 58 yards in 2nd half. 5 of his runs went for a TD or First Down. #BaldysBreakdowns - ( New Window )
i'm waiting to see what his numbers were compared to that game under pressure.
in minnesota he was 4/9 for 87 yards when pressured (34% of snaps). 0 tds/0 ints.
he was sacked 3x in both games but i think in this one he will have been pressured at a higher % and done more damage when pressured.
