To be to Jalin Hyatt as the old 49er's John Taylor was to Jerry Rice. Rice got all the accolades, but you didn't dare sleep on Taylor.
Nobody's fast as Hyatt but Darius has outstanding deep ball presence. He has worked his tail off fixing his drop ball problem. He hasn't let the hard nosed castigation destroy him.
In a way he reminds me of what Evan Engram was not. (Engram was a terrific player here, but he was thin skinned, letting the high NY expectations melt him down).
Hyatt was brought in to replace him. It’s over.
Slayton's ball skills will always limit the extent to which he is relied upon.
Rather than hoping for Slayton to be John Taylor to Hyatt's Jerry Rice, I'll be happy if Hyatt can be a saner version of Tyreek Hill to Waller's Travis Kelce. Admittedly, Hyatt will never be as dangerous after the catch as Hill. Few players are. Maybe Hyatt can play Alvin Harper to Waller's Michael Irvin?
Hindu Theory analogies aside, I don't think there's a plausible scenario where Darius Slayton is the first or second receiver opponents worry about in game-planning for the Giants. If that happens, either Slayton will have elevated his game substantially or the receiving corps will be as big a mess as it has been throughout Slayton's career.
After watching him in Jacksonville it’s clear he was misused in NY. Garrett kept running those curl routes like he was Witten and I think at some point he started hearing footsteps and that’s when the bobbles came in. He dropped other passes as well, but those curl routes were the main driver of the turnovers.
Yes! A very tough catch.
Hyatt was brought in to replace him. It’s over.
DJ has great chemistry to Slayton. So no you're wrong.
So, I don't think he was ever thought of as an "X"(the Giants just anybody else). He's a fast complimentary weapon, opposite last year's Biletnikoff Trophy inner (Hyatt)
Slayton had a very good rookie year, then he regressed.
In 2022, he had his best average per catch stat of his career - 15.7. (724 yards, 46 receptions. This year with Hyatt and Waller for the defense to worry about, I think Darius can have an outstanding year.
