I am a big believer of momentum in sports and the confidence that is related to it.
I didn’t see the destruction of the Dallas loss coming, but I was pretty confident there would be a carry over, I even wrote here I would be pleasantly surprised with a win.
A team can look pretty listless, even lazy, when confidence is gone
One play to begin the second half, leading to the first score of the season, changed the momentum and confidence level.
The result, a 31-8 shellacking and the domination so many wanted to see.
I believe this game will translate to a very good effort Thursday.
Side note, I look at game threads after the game is over. I take them for what they are, emotional overreactions, most of the time
So it was no surprised how quickly some turned on Jones, even though he earned a large contract last season.
There is also no doubt, for some, this will be the norm when evaluating Daniel. His critics will continue to reference any poor play as the indicator for what he is.
But my take from yesterday: It is something special to endure a 60-0 six quarter start to the season, and come out and put the team on your back, as he did, for the next two
As a consistent supporter of his, yesterday was just another reason why I m a fan and believer
Emotionally this team was flat to start- that Dallas beat down was worse mentally than it may have appeared.
Letting Jones be the guy was the difference. Jones showed fire and emotion like never before and the whole team changed attitude in the second half. AZ didn't bumble, fumble and stumble the game away, the Giants just took it over offensively and then a bit more defensively later on..
This team also showed how dominant this offense cam be, they came out and railroaded the Cardinals, if Saquon doesnt tip that pass maybe they win by more because they were driving on that drive..
Defense showed something in the 2nd half by getting stop after stop..
You are going to hear on the radio well they only won by 3 against the Cardinals, dont listen to it
NY is one of the hardest which is why you are not just drafting a QB but a NY QB.
Bingo … Pinnock and McKinney had 20 of the teams’ 58 total tackles. Bobby O started slow but picked it up in the 2H. But why was Davidson out there? He is clearly not ready to play and was getting man handled. There were other no shows up front too. Wink has a lot of work to do.
Then Jones completed that pass to Hyatt. Two plays later, touchdown. The offense felt energized, got some confidence.
Unfortunately, that didn't carry overt to the defense...yet. They still were in a funk, so they let the Cards drive downfield and score again.
The next Giants' drive was a key one. The defense's inability to respond could have sucked the life out of the offense. But it didn't. Result: Barkley touchdown. Offense is feeling good. Now it's the Cards' defense losing composure.
The next defensive series was key. Cards were moving the ball, defense could have collapsed again. But they get to a third and long, and finally they hold and force a punt.
Offense scores again. Defense finally had confidence, and they use it to force a three and out. And everything turns. Offense ties the game, defense forced another three and out, offense gets the game winner. Momentum.
Critics will say they barely beat a bad Cardinals team. I hope it's more a tale of two games: Week 1a and 2. Week 1/1a was crap, but they dominated Week 2.
We'll have a better idea if that's true on Thursday.
The offense did not score a point for 6 quarters. The criticism was warranted. With that said, Jones was fantastic in the 2nd half.
I don't know what people expected at halftime yesterday being outscored 60-0. I've never been a fan of cherry picking game threads after the fact.
The defense is really a problem. They got abused by Zach Ertz all first half. With Kittle waiting on Thursday it's not a good feeling. Conner ran through them. There seems to be very little push from the line, and blitzes aren't getting home when they are called.
Definitely a tale of two halves, but with a 31-7 2nd half, I would say the momentum is definitely on our side heading into the short turn to SF...
Absolutely. And given that and the schedule we have, it's going to be extremely hard to repeat our record from last year IMO.
No telling how this think jells or if even last night is the awakening we needed. Heck, maybe even the injuries on the OL is going to give us the right combo going forward.
Unfortunately I think we are STLL a year away.
