Maybe it’s pure coincidence, but I can remember when starters played about 6 quarters of the preseason games. 1 in the first, 2 in the 2nd and about 3 spread over the remaining 2 games. I believe players need to play real games to be mentally and physically ready to go. It’s more telling with the expanded rosters all the way through meaning less reps in the already abbreviated practices. Maybe some teams have figured this out but I think Dabs and staff already have 1 big work item for next years off season. Now with that behind us, let’s get ready for week 2.
Daboll definitely needs to re-examine his camp approach.
Of course you do. It's a prerequisite for being a Giants fan.
One of the reason this team is so healthy coming out of camp is the lack of contact drills and pre-season.
You can put the 6 quarters on the coaching staff. Game plan offensively was poor for both games and until they made changes and opened it up in the 2nd half.
They opened the season coaching scared.
Great adjustments by the coaching staff and the players rallied with Jones leading the way.
Agree about the lack of playing time/contact in preseason. I wonder how much different it was to last preseason.
I think the '6 quarters' barometer is a good one for preseason, but of course it is not set in stone. It sure as hell beats the 'one series and out' approach we took this summer.
Oh, and yes, we entered the season as healthy as we've been in a long time. Fat lotta good it did us last week.
