Saquon injury/timeout

Stu11 : 9/18/2023 9:35 am
I may have missed it, but did he not require assistance getting off the field? I thought on top of it being awful he got hurt, that in the moment it was going to also really hurt us because it was going to allow Arizona to keep the timeout because we were going to be charged with an injury timeout. It didn't though seeing as Arizona didn't have a timeout left after the 3rd down run. They had started that series with 2 timeouts left if I remember correctly.
was going to ask the same thing...

...I thought an injury would allow AZ to keep their timeout, even though they technically called it before anyone knew Barkley was hurt.

Was it because the game didn't really need to be stopped to attend to him? They did RUSH him off the field pretty quickly lol

I just figured if you need any assistance - you get charged the TO instead of the other team.

used the TO before realizing Barkley was hurt. The fact that Barkley was at least able to get up and hobble off the field was huge. That would have given Arizona another 40 seconds to get in FG range

Yeah I figured they called it right away, however usually even when that happens they give the team the timeout back when there is an injury. It's probably because he didn't require assistance to get off the field from the team staff.

but he did not get off by himself - weren't trainers helping him? Would be different if he got off on his own.

And I have seen where timeouts were given back to teams when there's an injury......that of course did not happen.

In hindsight, this was huge. They scooped up Barkley quickly before refs noticed, otherwise they could have charged an injury timeout.
Yeah it was a stressful time in the game and I wasn't hyper focused

During the stoppage in play. To be honest I don't remember whether the staff went out or not. If they did I think we caught a huge break. We also caught a huge break on the first play of the drive because Saquon did not catch that ball. Very surprised Gannon didn't challenge it.
We definitely caught a break there.

Anytime a player needs help from the sidelines, the rulebook calls for an injury timeout. Arizona's timeout should have been wiped out and changed to a Giants' timeout.
horrible job by the announcers...
BillKo : 9/18/2023 9:52 am : link
...not to understand that rule.

With another TO - who knows what these Giants would have done lol

Stu - it touched the ground but he had it secured so I think it was a catch IMO. That goes under the Bert Emmanuel Rule!!
Yeah I know that's the Best Emmanuel rule
Stu11 : 9/18/2023 9:58 am : link
But there was a lot of the ball touching the ground there and they showed the replay real quick, it may have moved a bit. I'm surprised it wasn't looked at closer on replay

I dont think the trainers came on the field until after the TO was issued. I could be wrong.
