That might have been the worse game I’ve ever seen from a linebacker. He must of missed 7-10 tackles in that game yesterday. We need someone to start opposite Okereke. Simmons hopefully takes that job soon.
Someone on the LW thread mentioned he was all over the field. I said according to game thread he was awful. Because I didn’t watch the game. So your post agrees with the thread that’s for sure.
I cannot remember a worse game from a LB and it was more than just the missed tackles. It was shooting the wrong gaps and he didn't know where to go on one blitz.
How could that be? I’m sure if he is found wanting in the game he is found wanting in practice too.,
He is starting because we have no one better. Beavers still isn’t 100% from his ACL year, and Davis is out for the year. Simmons is the other option, but he just got here.
is he fully healthy? My recollection is that he didn't seem to be, in preseason.
My biggest mis-evaluation of the preseason was I thought beavers was clearly the superior inside linebacker to McFadden.
I realized how wrong I was when Winkl said in an early press conference that McFadden was clearly the starter, which is something he doesn’t usually do.
Made me think that they must be either attitude or injury concerns with beavers that I was not aware of.
He was not good, but even worse was that Okereke was also not good in the first half. McFadden we all expect to be limited, but Okereke sucking was jarring.
Thankfully he turned it on in the second half and started making plays.

Eeh the Beavers hype was a miss by almost everyone. He had a good half of a preseason game last year, and then got hurt.
Expecting him to come back after an ACL and cement that position was wishful thinking in retrospect.
Austin Calitro had a good preseason last year too mind you...I think the thing with Beavers is that he was already kind of a slow thumper at the position and I'm sure the ACL didn't do him any favors. He could still have a good career but I just don't think he's there physically right now.
but I don't think he's an ILB answer. He's not an instinctive or effective player in traffic, he's better in space where he can use his physical gifts.
I know being critical of whoever you can is a thing here but people have bad games. He had a better stat line than Thibs or Leo.
The ILB position is supposed to make tackles - ideally near the line of scrimmage, which was not the case yesterday for McFadden.
Agree with other posters that he seemed to hit the wrong gaps. I know there is bellyaching about only having 2 D linemen - but the real issue with the run D in that first half and into the 3rd quarter was the poor ILB play.

I don't think he is but maybe he is someone that will make some progress and be able to contribute later in the season.
