The NFL is filing a grievance against the NFLPA over allegations the union advised running backs to "consider feigning or exaggerating injuries" to gain leverage in contract talks and seeking an order for the union to "cease and desist from such improper conduct".
I keeed.
Maybe?
I absolutely believe he's feigning injury, though. That's a nasty divorce happening in Indy.
I think it was JC Tretter...
Yeah, I don't even understand the premise of what they're allegedly trying to do. If RB's are hurt even more than they already are naturally, doesn't that just devalue the position more? I guess never underestimate the ability of people to do dumb stuff, but making yourself look less physically reliable seems like an odd way to try and get bigger contracts.
The holdout is the leverage. The faked injury (if proven) is just a way to execute the holdout while sidestepping the fines that would otherwise accompany the holdout.
But to your point, feigning injury is definitely seen as less of a liability than actually being injured, although that's probably because guys who are faking their injury can miraculously heal. Guys who are actually injured are stuck with real recovery timetables.
