Thursday's Game Will Be Televised on FOX 5

LTIsTheGreatest : 9/19/2023 10:27 am
Do not have Amazon Prime and was worried I could not see the game in NY but saw that FOX 5 here in NY is showing the game
I think this is always the case for any team in their local market

but I might be mistaken. I feel like the Giants were always on one of the local channels on Thursdays back when NFLN carried TNF.

Separately, I'm always fascinated by those who don't subscribe to Prime (in general, not just Prime video). It's up there with not having EZPass, IMO.
Really

I am getting a diwscount on a toll is the same thing as buying something on amazon which already offers free shipping on a lot of the items anyway?

Also Why draw the line there? It's not enough to have cable to watch baseball any more -- now I need Apple TV too.

You're not mistaken. Every nfl game is shown on broadcast channels in the local markets. (Except for home blackouts for games that aren't fully sold, but the league has been suspending that rule for several years anyway).

You already don't actually need cable anymore, and it's going to keep moving in that direction; that's actually the point. If you're drawing lines, you don't have to keep moving the front line alone - you can slide the back line forward also so that your footprint doesn't grow, it just moves.

And yes, I happen to find it curious when people don't have Prime - it's a ubiquitous convenience, IMO, similar to EZPass (and often the reasons for avoiding either have nothing to do with the product offering itself, but I'm not going to take the thread down a path of Orwellian conspiracists).

Especially since Prime represents streaming access plus whatever you think of the Prime shipping benefits (up to you if you see value in it; I do, as do most, based on their subscription rates), I'm not sure why Prime wouldn't be up there with Netflix as one of the more universally-subscribed streaming platforms. Are Netflix and Disney+ giving their subscribers free shipping and dedicated retail promotions across the full spectrum of consumer products?

What's your previous handle?

I can have Netflix, amazon streaming, disney streaming, hului live for baseball , allpe tv live for Friday baseball. But yea who needs cable especially when you are using them anyway for the wifi? I don't have a previous handle.

Cable isn't free even if you use a cable provider for internet (which you don't have to do; mobile companies are increasingly offering home internet, and cable companies are offering home internet, contract-free, at bundle prices even without a bundle). And if you have Hulu Live and are still paying for cable, you really have no room to be complaining about streaming costs when you're inviting redundancy in your own subscriptions.

As for you claiming to not have a previous handle, no one likes a liar.
I got rid of Hulu live

and just got cable since I liked the idea of having one bill w my wifi and it was the same money as basic cable. I already have netflix and just simply cannot be bothered to get rid of it, to pick another subscription package where I can just rent a show or movie on there for $2 anyway.

yes there are some people who get a great deal of pleasure in recreational shopping. They want that new exciting thing/derive pleasure from shopping. But that new exciting thing just gets old. I buy stuff when I need it.

The point is, it is better to just miss an occasional Friday night baseball game than to get sucked into the rabbit hole of subscription package after subscription package.

But yeah that is the same thing as getting a 15 dollar bill in the mail for not having an easy pass when the toll could have 7 dollars on my recent trip with a uhual could have been.

I was a kid in the 80s when Sports channel was around for baseball but, I actually google this, and in the 70s it was like 100 games on channel 9. It's like when does it end with this BS?

Also, if you want respect maybe you should show some first.
Bullshit

Cable tv and notably the dvr is a better product. It’s a seamless transition going back and forth between cable channels and going from dvr delayed tv to live is also seamless. And here’s the bigger deal, if you want to watch all local sports you arent doing so if you ditch cable and go the stream route and even if you could load up on every streaming service known to man, this allowing you to watch every local sports product you’re paying the same or more and as stated, the product isn’t as good as cable DVR service and no one here can tell me otherwise. I’ve used both. Bouncing from one stream to another sucks balls. You can’t even pause one and go to the other one.

It’s not “more options.” It’s more money and shittier service. And I like prime for the movie and shipping content.

I've been on this message board for close to two decades and have used the same handle the entire time. If you want to take your own advice and show some respect, start with transparency.

DVR is flawless for YouTube TV, not sure what more anyone could want there. And switching between multiple games is just as easy and even easier if it’s 3 or more channels. There’s other aspects that aren’t as good (rewind/fast forward) but that should come in time.

Yes, for local channels it’s a bit of a clusterfuck. But that too will get better. Streaming is in its infancy still.
