Justin Pugh worked out with the Giants today

If healthy and motivated he is versatile
SGMen : 9/20/2023 4:54 pm : link
Look, Glowinski needs to play well on Thursday for me to believe. Brederson is versatile but that concussion looked nasty. You have to do your due diligence and be ready.
No thanks

It could simply be a case of convenience with the Giants staying west between games. Evaluate him and then tell him to check his voicemail regularly.
We're getting the band back together, man!

He was the team's best lineman when he was here and on the field. Yes I know the line was awful then but an argument could be made it's not vastly better now. He used to be able to play 4 of the line positions. I bet he could be a backup for RT and both Gs. Management was probably right to let somebody else pay him after the first contract. But we've had lots and lots of OL worse than Pugh in the years since and he no longer needs to be paid alot. And maybe he gets injured less as time player?
Just the facts
Joey in VA : 9/20/2023 6:03 pm : link
Pugh is still a pretty good IOL, we have injuries on the IOL, it makes total sense. This is a football decision, not an emotional one, so if it irks you, consult your emotional support pet, maybe hug a goat and you'll be ok soon.
At the very least he's versatile depth.
j_rud : 9/20/2023 6:08 pm : link
All I care about is can he still play. He didnt live up to the draft status however hes not bad by any stretch of the imagination. As an in-season pickup I don't think the locker room lawyer stuff would be as much of an issue either.

All he's gotta be is better than Glowinski.

In a league with a boat load of teams with absolute horrible line play, he is without a job. Why?

Banks : 9/20/2023 6:13 pm : link
i remember checking out the cardinals message board a couple years ago. Their assessment of him wasn't good. Nice guy, good leader, needs to be replaced asap.
If he's better than what we got then do it.
Blue21 : 9/20/2023 6:21 pm : link
No long therm commitment with him . Game at a time.

I'd take my helmet off and walk away.

He

tore his ACL about a year ago and only started working out in August. I would pass, but my guess is that somebody will sign him before the end of the season.
He stunk for the Giants
kelly : 9/20/2023 6:38 pm : link
He stinks now.

Club house lawyer.

Hiring him would be a terrible decision.

Our current oline
Spiciest Memelord : 9/20/2023 6:56 pm : link
makes Pugh seem like a good idea, like how Disney Star Wars make people nostalgic for the prequels. And they were awful.
People
AcidTest : 9/20/2023 7:15 pm : link
keep calling him a "clubhouse lawyer." I'm not sure what that is, but it's just best IMO that we focus on developing our backup OL instead of signing him.
Pugh did play a season at RT. Only one other player has done that.

Pugh 119 starts, 38 RT starts, 7 RG starts, 74 LG starts

. Hard to ignore that experience
He was terrible at tackle
kelly : 9/20/2023 8:06 pm : link
that's why he was moved to guard.

He has experience as a lousy o lineman.

Pass

This is the correct take. Beggars can’t be choosers, if it offends you consider which OL you’re afraid of giving up or missing out on.

Choice. He wants to play on a contender, do you take any shitty job you can or do you look around for an opportunity you want? I'm not trying to be a dick, honestly, but he's the best of the OL out there, he can pick and choose at this point. Wouldn't you?
According to his pff ratings,
NorcalNYG : 9/20/2023 10:36 pm : link
If he can perform how he has in recent years, he would be the best guard on our team. I don't see why this would be bad at the right price.
Just say no
David B. : 9/20/2023 10:45 pm : link
There's a reason he's still available. He wasn't good when he was young, and now he's old.
Well, I didn’t have that one on my bingo card.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/20/2023 11:07 pm : link
As others have said, it may have been a matter of geographic convenience. Makes sense to keep track of his rehab, considering what’s available.

Is he still an Eagles fan?
Coming off ACL suffered last October
GeofromNJ : 9/20/2023 11:09 pm : link
His AZ career -- Signed a five-year, $45 million contract in 2018. Started seven games at RT before suffering a knee injury in Week 10. Was placed on injured reserve.

In 2019, started all 16 games, 14 at LG, 2 at RT.

In Week 6 of the 2022 season, suffered a torn ACL and was placed on injured reserve on October 20, 2022.
if the Giants wanted him
Rory : 9/20/2023 11:54 pm : link
in for a visit then that means they saw enough to look, that's good enough for me

But....

How any of you think you know better is fucking absurd. An the way you people act like you have been hurt personally by Pugh is pathetic.

I can't believe what this place has become these past 5 years.
Not a big deal.
Bubba : 9/21/2023 6:11 am : link
I don't believe anyone on the current staff and/or team was here when he was before. Gets to start with a clean slate.
Pugh
stretch234 : 9/21/2023 6:15 am : link
He is out a job because teams would rather try young players on the IOL than pay veterans. Players like Pugh don’t take backup roles - they start or they are not on a roster. Teams are always going to try the younger guy

Go look at the backups on rosters at G and see how little game time they actually have

I have zero problem with him taking a workout. Baffling that people are bitching about it
If
SoZKillA : 9/21/2023 7:01 am : link
he's better than Glow, Peart, Lemiux than why not?

Or is typical BBI having their feelings hurt because a few words were said and crying about it years later like Tiki?

Anyone have the latest on Dalton Reisner? Was mentioned as a Viking pickup

Tiny arms PASS..how many teams draft players that 10 years later go on and make 120 NFL starts? If he is healthy you sign..the question here..is he healthy?
hard pass. Ezeudu and McKethan at LG and RG resepectively
Victor in CT : 9/21/2023 8:06 am : link
when AT is back. They are the future, and neither Glow nor Bredeson are so great that they should delay laying these guys.
I just want to point out
Semipro Lineman : 9/21/2023 9:23 am : link
that I called this. By the way, Eli Apple hasn't ruled out a Giant reunion either...
I would strongly consider
Carson53 : 9/21/2023 9:42 am : link
signing Pugh, gives them some veteran experience.
They are very young at center, and the right side of the line.
If they do sign him, they can consider moving on from Glowinski in a few weeks.
No thank you
Matt M. : 9/21/2023 10:05 am : link
WE let him walk in the first place because he sucked AND had injury issues. Both are still the case.

Locker room lawyer, can't stay healthy, a dick sammich.
what does locker room lawyer mean regarding Pugh?
KDavies : 9/21/2023 11:11 am : link
I googled and the only thing remotely close was he stuck up for a teammate who was blamed for missing a FG. What stories did I miss on him?

Nothing personal, but this is an open book exam and you're getting a C- at the moment.
The outcome regarding Pugh
Rod in St Cloud : 9/21/2023 12:04 pm : link
Daboll plays the best players. They worked him out. If they liked his workout, they will sign him. If they think he's better than what they have starting, then they will start him. It won't matter one iota what any fans think about him. Daboll will do what's best for the team. He won't care about what Pugh did here or anywhere in the past. He will be judged and utilized for what he currently is able to provide and that's the way it should be.
